yeah but the only people who go on automotive forums are people who actually have cars they wanna brag about... that's not really a real world situation.. the dump seems like a great place to see what real people have..
-
Yeah, but this is still a section for topics which have no section... This is deffinetly for the auto section... None the less, gotta show off the ride

Heres my bro's car, its undergone some modifications since these pictures were taken, for instance all the black trim round the bumpers and over arches etc has been sprayed to match the car.
Its got a custom made exhaust, that is loud as hell, its got twin 5" tail pipes on the cans at the back, and the center box has been completly took out so you can appreciate how loud this thing is as it also has no mufflers in the back cans. Some very RARE chrome momo WRS limited editions, and its been lowered just over 60mm all round, so yeah its low..
Its about to have a redtop engine dropped in it thats being complete re-built with forged pistons, new cams, etc etc and should rev out to about 8k and above, hes also on about turboing it some time in the near future. This is the car that will blow away scoobs and lambos etc.
Oh also, its having a full break conversion right now, its having rear disk conversion on the back as it was on the original drums, and is having some big disks and pads upfront.
Alright so heres a couple of the old pics i have on my comp at the moment:

yes it was going well up until i somehow managed to fry the carb (still unsure how i did this the float collapsed and then all the jets snapped and it basically got broke) but i got a new one or 2 as it should be with some performance twin webers. unfortunately this means about 10mpg off my economy but seeing as how it did 54mpg to begin with its not that big a concession( its only a 1300cc engine but goes like shit off a shovel when its in a car that probably weighs as much as 2 xboxes currently) even worse im moving out in a few weeks so it has to go into storage until ive space to work on it again

Be careful dude. As dangerous as a bike is, it's even more dangerous on ONE wheel. You don't need to prove you're a good rider by doing wheelies, speeding, or deciding you don't need to wear gear. Being alive 30 years from now and still riding will be plenty proof.
-
Oh trust me, I know, as said I have _no_ intention of popping wheelies or driving excessively fast (theres Bandemere dragstrip not a half hour from my house, 20 bucks for a night of racing). Its also why the day after I bought the bike I went out and bought almost 800 bucks worth of riding gear, helmet, pants, gloves, shoes and a nice jacket.

2000 Jeep,

Thank God theres some one else on here that drives a Jeep WJ. For a few minutes there I thought this post would show nothing but kids drooling over ricers they will never have.
Ive also got a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Not really the year I wanted, but I had no choice in the matter. I was sick of looking for a new Grand and all the ones here in Arizona were 2wd, and this was the first 4wd one I saw, so I bought it.

Powered by a 4.7L V8, this Jeep will eat any ricer off the line, and probably handle it self better in the corners. Theres no replacement for displacement of all American horsepower.

Nissans are ricers, just a higher class of ricer. Next time Im up in Alberta Ill look forward to a street race. Id prefer it on a track, but on the street is all right with me. Your pals Nissans will ultimately win an all out speed race, but I will eat them for breakfast off the line and give them a good run before their turbo(s) spool up and catch up with me.
I do give respect to Skylines how ever. Sylvias I can care less about though.

I think you truly under estimate the Jeep. When you stomp on gas pedal the W8 comes alive and shoots it forward. If I didnt have a full time four wheel drive transfer case, it would spin its rear tires. And yes, it could easily take on that little POS Honda. I eat ricers off the line all the time. But as you point it, its not built for speed, so the ricer wins out in top end. The only thing that has really put my Jeep to shame off the line was a big Dodge turbo diesel.
You friends Jeep mite be a slow, but it all depends on what he has in it. He mite have the inline six 4.0L too. Those are a little slow for that model Jeep, but a buddy of mine has the same 4.0L in his TJ (thats a Wrangler to the rest of you) thats been stroked out to a 4.7L and has a Kenne Bell supercharger bolted on. With his lockers locked, it will spin all four tires. His YJ will eat my WJ alive. But thats mostly b/c of power to weight ratio.
Never the less, the Jeep Grand Cherokee handles externally well for an SUV. Since it has coil springs all around, it makes it very customizable as far as the suspension goes. Mines been upgraded with stiffer springs and Addco front and rear anti-sway bars. These simple upgrade significantly reduces body roll and adds stability while you're on the highway or turning tight corners. Yes, Jeeps are a little top heavy, but they can handle very nice if the right things are done to make them do so.
So stop talking out of your ass when you don't know what your talking about.
-
not to add fire to this flame war, but ubernewb does know what he is talking about. There are plenty of 2.0L and under, inline4s and v6's that could smoke your v8 so.....chill with the american muscle sass, ive heard it before.

so my early assumption of retardedness was on the money.. i said he had the exact same rig, meaning his also has the v8. i'm glad you're happy with your [shit] purchase, but a turd is still a turd.

2. you're some pissed off older guy who's wife wouldn't allow you to buy a sports car, and instead made you buy the safe family car.. and out of sheer spite (and jealousy towards those of us that were allowed to buy the car we wanted) you buy stupid parts for it to try and make it sporty in an attempt to convince yourself that you actually have some balls (even though they are kept in your wife's purse)
no replacement for displacement? ... try efficiency and engineering, i'd say those are a much better replacements

See, there you go talking out of your ass again. Im not in either category. Im not going to walk away, and I havent bitten off more than I can chew either. No, Im not some kid, and no my wife didnt make my buy any thing. I had to bust my ass to get my first vehicle, which just happened to be a Jeep. I bought it for several reasons. I wanted some thing that looked great, had four wheel drive, and that I really wouldnt care if it got beat up off road. A Jeep fell into all of those categories.
Ive been working with engines for as long as I can remember. I cant count the number of project hotrod cars my dad and I built. My father was an ASE citified mechanic and could probably take a small block Chevy apart and put it back together blind folded. When I was old enough to work, I went to work for CSK, and became ASE citified my self a short time later. I bought my Jeep my self, no help from my parents, unlike most people today. That makes me appreciate it that much more, unlike all these ricer pussies whos parents bought them every thing they wanted.
I had over 300,000 miles on my first Jeep before I traded it in. I bought the Jeep from the original owner who had only had to replace a water pump at around 70,000 miles. In that 220,000 miles that I drove it, the only thing I ever had to replace was a fuel pump, alternator, and a CPS. And all of that was all around the 200,000 mile mark. What a dependable vehicle! No import short of a Rolls would be able to do that. In the whole time Ive had my WJ the only thing its needed is a thermostat, and its got around 110,000 miles.
Im only 21 years old, and seem to know 100% of what Im talking about. I dont know how old you are or your background, but I work hard to get what I want. At this age, Im happily married, all my vehicles are paid off, and I have a mortgage. No one told me to get a Jeep. I own a Jeep b/c its one of the best domestic vehicles made. I can take it where ever I want, though the snow, mud, or what ever else gets in my way. What good is a car thats so low that it cant get over a speed bump?
You know, I did own a ricer for a short time. All though a 98 Lexus LS400 didnt really fall into the category of a ricer per-say, it was still more or less a Toyota. Had it for about six months and a friend rolled it. Doing 55mph, swerved to miss a deer, car went into a ditch, hit a driveway embankment and went air borne (or at least that was his story). He walked away with nothing more than a headache. Probably the safest car Ive ever had. All though I it was a very nice car, I couldnt really do any thing with it but cruse, I couldnt even change its damn oil. So I bought another Jeep with the insurance money, a vehicle that I could work on.
If I wanted to, I could probably drive down to the Dodge dealer and bring home a brand new shiny Dodge SRT-8 Charger, thats sole purpose is going fast and burning rubber, and doing it in luxury at the same time. But this car would sit in my garage ¾ of the year. I use my vehicles for work, not play. I have a nice project car awaiting me in the garage. A 1955 two door Chevy BelAir thats been begging for me to work on her. I got all the parts there, just need to find the time to do it (running your own business sucks some times). And when Im done with it, it will be a nice rice eating machine! As I say again, theres no replacement for displacement of all American house power.
I respect rice burners to a point. I have seen some really nice done up ricers that Im sure could easily put the power to the pavement and have no problem handling them selves, but these are very far and few between. As for the other 99.9% of them, most of them are kids in their primered POS Nissans with body kits, that are trying to pass the car off for a real Skyline when its not. Than after I beat their asses on the street they come back with a dumb statement like Well ya, like I would have won if my car had four extra cylinders Well you dont so shut the fuck up and stop whining.

hell yeah, im tellin ta right now that pulsar gti-r would hump that jeep off the line.
2.0l turbo in something that weighs as much as a fart, this is a proper fucking hatchback, infact theyr the fastest production hatchback ever and theyr tunable to insane specs, thats what happens when your the skylines little brother
civics...piss off.

p.s im not trying to flame, i just really like pulsars
-
rms thats cool you know your cars, but you obviously know nothing about racing, sure you can beat 99.9% of ricers off the line, how long does that last? up to the speed limit or something?
and just so you know its official that jeep/dodge/chrylser (damlier-chrysler) are no longer domestic. sure they are apart of the "big 3" still but if you look at it, eh not so much.
i bet for a fairly common ricer a 2.3L i-4 mazda 3 or dodge srt-4 could take you off the line no problem, ive driven both and big v8 SUVs want to "eat me for breakfast" but all they end up eating is my dust, and possibly my middle finger depending on their initial attitude.
-
rms.. cute story. so you know domestic engines.. cool. like it really matters? you wanna keep your head in the clouds and think that "american muscle" is the greatest thing on the planet, then go ahead and do that. keep racing stock dx civics and camrys and you'll be happy for the rest of your life..
meanwhile, i'll keep walking 90% of the domestics out there with my stock 87 supra turbo..
cheers
-
i hate ricers as much as rms, but i think i have a different definition of rice, to me if you have proper forced-induction you are no longer considered rice, lol, rice is the HS kid with a NOS sticker on a stock civic pretending its fast

OK guys, I think the only way to settle this flamefest is to see you both take each other on. Throw some plans out.
EDIT: Hell, I'll even bring one of our cars, and whoop both of you
-
OK nuff with the flamefest boys. Let's at least talk like adults. Leave it to a SAE mechanic to be biased as hell and not even try to think this through logically. A 4.0L Jeep is fast off the line for 2 reasons. It's geared low. AND it's FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. So of course it's gonna get the jump on a lot of rides due to this.
Here's some simple facts
A jeep is not a sports car
A Honda Civic is not a sports car
Beating a Civic off the line does not make a jeep a sportcars.
A Sylvia is a Sports car
As is a Skyline.
A primered, kitted Civic is not a sports car and is also incredibly lame.

(pic taken at sellers house, I can't find my mem stick that has more pics)
And Pops' ride
(old pics) :

Bad news is me and my dad are short on cash and can't really finish up either, although he did get his running and tuned, his is probably 99% done. Kinda like waiting for those fucking torrents to finish, sitting at 99% lol. Anyways, hopefully I can get a job soon and he can get some mulah as well to finish up both (plus he's busy w/ other shit so it sucks right now). And yes, thats my dads shop/garage/lift. Btw, nice stang there vader, must've been a cruise to get to wickstrom eh?
-
That is going to be one bad ass pony car. Id love to put that thing up on a dyno and see what kinda power its putting to the rear wheels. Little ricer punks would shit if that tried to go up against that turbo changed 5.0L. All though, Im more of a fan of superchargers just for the fact you have instant power, that turbo set up looks awesome.
Love that exhaust set up. Bet it sounds awesome with those headers too. Very nice.
-
erm, that is a supercharger
A Novi 2000 to be exact, pushing 36 pounds of boost w/ the small pulley. If only I could find a pic of my dads lifted f350, now THAT would make you jeep guys shit your pants lol. In the 2nd pic, if you can see the blur of blue, thats the 350.
-
Sorry. My mistake, it is a supercharger. I didnt really take a hard look at the image of the engine. All I saw were the boot tubes and assumed it was a turbo.
Ive seen some crazy lifts on pick up trucks. Theres a Chevy in town sporting a 36 lift on HUGE mud tires. You hear the thing coming before you see it. If I can did out the photos, theres a white Jeep WJ with some crazy custom lift rolling on 44 tires. Damn thing looks like a monster truck. Its all about worthless for any thing other than show, but its interesting non the less.
-
yea my dads truck was lifted X" (X = i dont know lol) but has 44" mudders on it

closer look? the supercharger has a pulley on it...
not a lot of turbos with those.. and you're the certified mechanic huh?

thanks, yeah, it was about an hour drive to get there, but considering the got the car for 3500 under blue book i cant complain much (guess no one on the north side wants a 98, lol)
and i thought the super was a turbo at first glance too, lol (didnt see the pully)

2 cars:
1998 Saturn wagon (work)
1991 Mustang GT (Play)
The mustang can be seen on the wikipedia article about mustangs (the black car listed as having all factory options)
-
My 3 cars:
-2003 Civic. Pretty much my stock daily driver.
-'85 Honda CRX. My intensive project car. Including a complete engine teardown and rebuild with oversized pistons and a DOHC head, and a ton of more stuff that's too much to mention. (Sorry no pics).
-'88 Honda CRX Si, w/ vtec D16Z6 and individual throttle bodies going on soon. (my little brother's that I drive/work on)
Here's a BEFORE and AFTER of the '88 CRX Si. My brother did all the body work himself. And you can see my red '85 CRX in the back there, this was taken before I started work on it though, it's now primer grey
.

That's an old pic of the '88 when it first came out of the shop and still needed trim and lights put on. But it's '06 Porche Boxter 'lapis blue'.

not diggin the hood scoop (only cuz i think it's a little squared off compared to the smoother lines of the car) but i love the color. love the car as well, as i've always been a fan of the 2g rex. you should get some "together" pics up..
-
well the cops have graciously given me till next april off from driving. but my 'good' car is a Holden Berlina. for americans it looks like a 4 door version of the new GTO (actually a rebadged Holden Monaro) and a fucking great car. its considered a luxury car. its all black and woodgrain and has been tinted '35' (15 shades darker than legal
). no pic, but heres my pride and joy:

a 1969 Holden Brougham (HG). Australias first attempt at a luxury car. weighs nearly three tonnes. has belt driven power steering that gets lighter the faster you drive lol. Has bench buckets front and back, can fit 8 blokes comfortably. by all accounts is not really a great car, but it drives like a V8 lounge chair. My model is like hens teeth which is why its so sort after - only 600 made. there were three models of brougham - HT, HK, and HG. i bought it one owner from a mates mum and it had only 36000 orig miles on it and even had the orininal 'cross ply' spare type in the boot.
I love it!
^oop, didnt see the 'post yr cars up' thread directly blow this... this link just caught my eye from the main menu...

Thanks. The scoop looks diffrent in person and was originally for the top-mount intercooler for the turbo project, but until then it's doing wonders for ram air with the stock intake manifold setup. It'll be the the inlet for the ITB's airbox if he decides to go ITB's over turbo.
The pic doesn't really do it justice. But I don't have any good pics of it all put together either, just a couple when it's raining.

How much would the body work cost plus paint for a crx. I have an 1987 crx si and need a repaint bad. The body is decent but there are dents on the roof. I love crx's though, there a small and fast little car. I want to tottaly restore mine to stock and buy a new engine. Keep on rollin in the the crx

You'd be looking at a couple thousand for a shop to do the body work and paint. Or you could always do it yourself; It's not hard on our cars.
Check out RedPepperRacing.com you'll be glad you did. I'm Crazi-85crx.
-
sweet crx's, i have a 2nd gen crx, just body, no motor, im lookin for a good motor to throw at it, its an SI still has transmission, but im glad there are still crx lovers!
-
CRX's are the best
, I prefer the 1st gens. I just picked up this '84 Civic Sedan yesterday; exact same drive-train, suspension, and old engine as my '85 CRX, just a different body style.

This is my daily drvier 'til my CRX is back on the road next year.

QUOTE(Damaso @ Oct 11 2006, 05:13 PM)

Where can i find a turbo for an 87 1g si crx. Its pretty fast stock though, I raced my friends 94 mustang gt with stall/shift kit and new intake exaust and actually beat him somehow. He says his is 360hp to the wheels. Either hes lying or my car is faster than i thought.
PM'd. You've got 91hp at the crank (~70whp), but maybe less because of wear. FYI the stock 1st gen CRX Si can do mid-15's in the quarter mile... with a full D16A1 swap maybe low-15's. My not-so-stock n/a carbureted CRX DX should be able to do low-14's easily
.

Im sporting a Red 1990 ford tempo complete with a brand new muffler rust and a big dent in the door. Also im planning on a working thermostat and a nice new air and oil k&n filters.

Gotta love the big vans, our shop teacher back in High School had one of those, we went to Walmart and bought 3 of those plastic, 'spinner' rims, and duct taped them onto his wheels, it was made even worse by the fact that 1) There was intentionally 3 of them, and 2) He drove around with them for like 3 weeks till they fell off.

Agreed. Right now it;'s a 3 seater which is kind of lame. But Saturday Im hitting the junkyard to pick up the 3rd seat in the rear. The giant cushy bench thats more comfortable than many couches and unfolds into a bed thats more comfortable than many beds.

can i just ask a quick question
is insurance cheap over there in america? its just pretty much evryone seems to own 2 (or more) cars
as my bro drives a 1.1 ford fiesta(yes that is an entire 1100 ccs
) and his insurance when he first got it was like 1300 quid a year (nearly 2800 dollars)
but now he has 1 year ncb its dropped to about 980 i think
so he had the brilliant idea to put in a 1600 engine .also the insurance companys are retarded over here. he told them the engine came out of an escort base model which does have the 1600 engine which for some reason makes it cheaper than if the engine had come out of an xr2i (sport model) which has the same engine
so what if its come out of a different car its the same damn engine

rms2001 is right about a jeep wj, with a 4.7 it screws off the line and not just for an suv its quick in general, top end to about a hundreds good too( not many cars have an advantage of two different second gears
) and if u wanna talk mods if u strap on a kenne belle to a jeep wj you better hold on that thing'll move. Don't get me wrong a jeep grand Cherokee won't beat a skyline or evo 9 but it'll smoke any civic it comes across, and of course a $125K Mercedes( off the line till about 30mph but after that all bets are off). so just cause its got a jeep badge and a 7 slot grill don't underestimate it.

Its about time a fellow WJ owner chimed in here, and backed me up. Nicely said Lemon Crevice. The 4.7L is good til about 110MPH, but any thing above 100MPH the engine is just screaming though
I traded my 2000 for a 2004 Overland. Man that HO V8 is AWESOME! That extra 30HP or so really makes a difference when a little Honduh pulls up to the light and thinks hes a badass b/c he has a NOS sticker and gay rims.
Its to bad you cant get a supercharger for the HO. The next step is to tear apart the block, install ROSS light weight pistons, new 206 CAMS, and port the heads. All ready have the new exhaust, FIPK and a FASTMAN 68mm throttle body installed, sounds GREAT. While the engine is out, I may just punch it out to a 5.0L, but havent decided yet.
What year is your WJ? From the looks of your grill I'm guessing 01 or 02?

mines an 02 limited with the standard 4.7,i couldn't imagine how fast a HO would be.

I had mine up to 115MPH the first night I had it. I figured if I was gonna brake it, I better do it now. According to DaimlerChrysler the HO will push the WJ to 128MPH with out the limiter.
To be perfectly honest, Id rather have an 02 Limited / Overland than the 04. More goodies.

the vehicles at my humble abode
the ever popular, and reliable, GEO STORM!

^^ greatest car ever made. Hands down.
Also, F150

Truck is alright I suppose, New paint 3 weeks ago, 35's on stainless steel rims, chrome bumpers, tunnel cover on back, nice auio system, etc but its no Geo Storm!
Also, the monster jeep with a 400 hp Chev 350 in it

This jeep is a friggin monster, faster than a lot of muscle cars around here (low end), and loud as hell!
