Ford didn't start cars, cars were around 1880's and before, but on subject, ya carbon fiber hood, and a new trunk with some kind of wing, upgraded suspension, interior tweaks, because im a big guy, then some under the hood stuff, which is what i want to know about, what are the structural flaws?

In any case this thread has sort of degraded IMO from the original post. I don't see anything that needs to be done to the hood and trunk on that car. The issues I see with it are as follows.
4 Doors: While more conveninent I suppose a true sports car does not need 4 doors as things like that add weight to the car and reduce the car's overall stiffness.
No TQ: Why they don't have a turbo version of this thing out yet I don't know. Seems like it needs one.
My biggest question would be reliability. You're attacking the quality of Ford when it owns Mazda.... And yes there are plenty of cars shared between the 2 companies and plenty of parts that find their way into both Mazdas and Fords. They are not totally seperate car companies with one's build quality and engineering not effecting the other.
Add to that that the RX8 is a rotary engine and they are to date, not known to last as long as the average piston engine. While I realize the Renesis engine has newer technology and improvements such as the upgrades to the apex seals, until I start seeing these things lasting 200K Im not sold. Frankly if everything could be designed in factory to never break there'd be no exploding pintos or crankwalk in DSMs.
And as far as it goes I'd consider a Ford Mustang along side an RX8. And I'd probably look at a Pontiac GTO. Not every domestic built car is horrible.
Bear in mind I'm not knocking the RX8. I like it quite a bit and merely wish it were a 2 door car.

In my Job, I do a lot of driving of new cars, everything from a mazda 3 to chevy express vans, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to cars (Don't know much about engine/performance, however).
I've driven RX-8's and I do have to say they are a good, fast car. However, Mazdas ARE NOT as built good as other Japanese car companies. Like Honda, Toyota, or Nissan.
For Example: Open and shut a rx-8 door, you can hear the plastic give a little. Dosen't sound right. Now open and shut a altima/camry/accord door, you don't hear any part of the door give. Thats the way a car should be.
I would drive a Mazda, however, Since Ford took over Mazda, their build quality has gone down.
Just don't make fun of a company and say another company is so much better, if the "better" company is made by the "crappy" company. Thats just dumb.
Its like saying "The 2007 Chevy Tahoe is sweet man, but the GMC Sierra is crap man"
Guess what? GM owns or is a large shareholder in a lot of car companies. Chevy Aveos share almost everything as the Suzuki Aerio uses. Look at a Isuzu truck and you will see it uses EVERYTHING a Chevy Colorado or a GMC Canyon uses. Subaru engines are used is Saabs.

Nice, you obvously know what your talking about, i totally frogot that they got them rotery engines going on now, but that shouldn't be to hard to learn.
krustytheclown I got no idea what your talking about with the GM refrence, sence we all know that ford owns lincon, and lincon is some of the best quality cars out there (IMO you just put oil in and they run), but nonetheless you do make some good points.
The pontiac GTO's now are kind of going down hill in terms of sell's right? Mabey a good time to get one for cheap

As for Lincoln build quality vs Ford it's mostly interior. It's the same engines from the Ford lines. In years past the 4.6L V8 from the Stang GT ended up in Lincoln continentals. And the Navigator is essentially one of the Ford SUVs, but I get them mixed up. Expedition? Excursion? Explorer? Interiors are different. Different seats, different plastics, blah blah, same truck.
The GTO was sort of a nightmare as it doesnt quite fit a buyer's market. Most people see it as a newer Camaro and think it's supposed to compete with Stang GTs and the like. But the price is high. And they are far more refined then my Camaro was on it's best day. Quieter inside. Nicer interior. Better shifter. Etc. Actually they compete more with BMWs and such, but what guy is gonna take a GTO over an M3 even if it is literally half the price and performs the same and is as nice. And they look kinda bland. I'd buy one if I had the money for a new car that I didnt want to drive year round. But most likely my next new cars gonna need to be drivable year round, so Ill be looking AWD. But the new ones are 400 hp. And 6 speeds. And they are actually a pleasure to drive and more drivable around town then the RX8 IMO. Torque matters, and RX8s dont have much. They ride like Hondas.

I have a 88' Lincon town car, 305 EFI, rear whell, 200k on it, so far all I've had to replace was the water pump, and the alternator. Nothing eles to big, shocks, A/C, standard stuff, and this thing is still running good. Sure the engine measure out to be 4 feet long, and it looks like a boat, but its orignal luxery.
Ford is a company thats out to make money, if i have a 88 mustang, and a 88 continetal, i could swap the chassie out and nothing would change, why spend all that time and money makeing a machine to do the same thing, but different, when i could just make 1 machine that does all the same chassie's?
In the end, all cars are going to shit, except the imports, if you want a car that runs today, tommorow, and the next day, thats what your going to have to get.

There's some reading on the rotary engine if anyone cares. And the rotary engine isnt exactly new. Wankel made the original in the 50s. And it's been used in countless Mazdas and there have been a few domestics that have tried the rotary.

The same problem with all Mazdas. They use so many connecters on their damn electrical systems that the slightest bit of dust can send the stupid things haywire. Usually more evident as the car gets older though. If you are just looking for the next 4-5 years, it would be a great choice. Gas mileage isn't the greatest but the Renesis is certainly an improvement over the 13B Rotary in that department.

Yes, I forgot to add that the high pressure fuel systems that some engines use (ie 13B rotary) are murder on hoses, ect. I think I have replaced just about every line/hose in my RX-7.

Uh, maybe on the 3rd Gen RX-7s which are far fewer in number but the 1st and 2nd Gens sure don't look like a Viper. BTW Rylinkus, if you want to buy my rex, just let me know.

Yeah, the 3rd gens do remind me a bit of the newer Vette's but then again, the 3rd gens were out of production (at least here in the US) long before the latest body style vette's. So if anything you could say that the latest vette's look like the 3rd gen RX-7s.
