Title: I Broke My Hand Today.
Post by: Psykomantis00 on September 30, 2005, 05:20:00 PM
Im working on stripping my old summit and going to do the swap again and the awd conversion and put the front bumper from a 2g talon the sexy one, and a 2g bumper from an eclipse for the rear. Custom CF hood, 4g mirage side skirts from the invader body kit, I think they will look good with the 2g bumpers. I will have either suicide doors or lambo doors, not sure yet. I will also be converting it to right hand drive once I can get the engine rebuilt. Its going to take a while becasue I have to get the engine rebuilt, find the bumpers I want, mod the firewall for RHD, relocate the pedals, buy another 1g awd dsm because my tranny was blown before it was totaled and the front and rear axel's are destroyed and driveshaft is bent. So I gotta basically re do everything..

While I was removing the engine from my new summit its the 1.5l 5 speed, something fell, not the engine, but something fell and crushed my hand. So far I have the old summit completely stripped except the engine and tranny and struts shocks and rims, windshield and back glass, and dashboard. All I gotta do is get an extension bolt for my ratchet because the one I normally use broke while removing the header because of al the rust.

I dont have an engine puller and the car isnt in my garage right now and 2 of the rims are off and 2 are stuck because one one stud on each rotor snapped off the rotor and has the nut stuck on it and wont come off so I cant get the rims off. any ideas.

If the studs on your rims snapped wont they just pull out? Im not exactly following the issue. Explain a bit more if you could dude. Im an expert at taking things apart the wrong way because I render the right way impossible when I break shit.

I've had the wheel studs snap off on my Dodge Avenger and my Nissan 240SX.
Both times I had to hammer them out, then use an arbor press to put new ones back in.

I don't know if it's the same way with all cars, but they didn't just fall out when they snapped off.

EDIT: Hmmm.. I just re-read your post. Puzzling that your rims wont come off after the wheel studs snapped.

It snapped the weld or whatever is holding it to the rotor but it wont pull out. Its still holding the tire on and everything but when I turn the lug nut it turns the bolt also. I think Im going to use the 3lb hammer and the tire iron. Ill get some pics of all the parts when I get my cam back which will probably be never because I hate driving 2 hours to see my dad for 45 mins then drive back 2 hours and then he expects the camera back the next day so thats like 10 hours of work to take a few pics and then i cant take any after that.  lol

Your wheel stud didn't snap afterall...it just came loose from behind the rotor.  Jack your car up, hit the stud from behind with a hammer to lodge it back into place, then you can unscrew the lug nut.

Another EDIT: Wheel studs are not welded in... just pressed into place (sometimes hammered in as well).

to muck NFU2 lol

i don't know shit about cars but it sounds like the thing you put the lug nuts on is loose and you cant turn the nut cuz the whole thing turns right? If i am is there any way to tighing the down good? then the would press back into place and tack it off from there

Edit: or jut pull on the lug hard to "press" it into place

OK, Ill finally say it. Converting to RHD????   rotfl.gif  rotfl.gif  rotfl.gif
Youll need the entire front end from a RHD car, not modifying your firewall.

Wrong. Ever done it or seen it done? If not then dont talk shit mr domestic. The firewall doesnt just bolt up to the car, its welded. any way that you look at it you would have to cut and weld the firewall and the metal bar that holds the steering wheel into place. Its not that hard. The hardest part is going to be relocating the petals and thats nto really that difficult.

No. You obviously misread the shit I say. I like my car. There are plenty of imports that are nice. I say a Skyline is overrated and you flip. It is, sorry. You claim that these Honda engines are so advanced and yet can't give an explanation why. You have made comments about FWD in threads and yet every car you mention owning is FWD. You claim you're not a ricer yet every mod you list is out of the fast and the furious, a ricer flick with more misinformation then any other movie I can name. You argue autoX is "real" racing and obviously FWD cars are better suited to it since thats what people use. Certainly couldn't be something as simple and logical as most people can't afford a car specifically for auto X so just drive their daily driver. And those who do have money may go to the next level and get in some of the real tracks. There are plenty of cars I'd rather have then my Camaro. But for the money I challenge you to beat it performance wise. I liked both of my past 2 cars more. Neither were domestic V8s.

One reason I dont have a rwd car right now is because I have never driven a rwd car more than 15 mins and was never trying to have any fun with it, me being 18, and I do a lot of stupid shit in my fwd cars as it is, I would probably end up on the news shortly after I got my car. Plus if you come to my house and see the hill I live on, there wouldnt be a chance in hell you would take your z28 out in the winter. I have to go with whats practicle right now. I have never had a problem with FWD's in the snow, I would love to have an AWD but I cant find one that I like and DSM's are just completely un reliable from the previous owners dogging the hell out of them. There is an advantage to having an under powered wrong wheel drive car in the snow, I could do my hill safely, and have before, driving the speed limit (speed limit is 35 I normally hit 60 on it) because I know the hill and I also know my car. Once I can find a decent paying job I will be driving a rwd or awd car, but I will always have a fwd unless I find a cheap awd car for in the snow.
