Title: Network Hardware Problem

I am having a problem running a network to my box using any kind of network cable. I get the light on back of the xboxs lan port but when i plug it into my network card or hub i get no lights on the back that indicate a connection. I am running Evolution X dash. I feel it could be a hardware problem. If anyone knows please get back to me

are you using a patch cable?

if its longer than 3 metres? (9.84ft) it wont work (not enough charge in cable)

Yes I have tried a patch cable that is less then 10 feet but i still have the problem connecting it to my computer. A few months back i had it set up to a hub with a patch cable that was 30 ft and it worked fine before i switched my network around. I also tried a few short crossover cables but also do not work. I fear it could be damaged on the xbox. But if the light is on in the back doesnt that mean it shouldnt be? Let me know..

Is the light on the port on without any cables plugged into it?

Yes when there is no cable plugged in  the light is on. Its the orange light thats always on. but the green light never comes on even if the cable is plugged in.

This means that the ICS PNY chip for the NIC is bad.

You can get it fixed here.

That sucks.. it may of been the fact that we had a lightning storm a few months back and a few network components had fried.. thanks for the help.. i appreciate it!

just for the record ive been using a 50ft patch cord for about a year now with no problems...

He is right. I'm am a network admin & we have cables that are over 100'. The length of the cable is moot, this is not usb, nor is it 2wire.
Before I got a wireless bridge on my EC, I had a 75' cable going from my MC room in the basement to my "toy room" on the 3rd floor, to a switch & then another 3' cable from that to the box & never once had a problem with power.

Actually, the IEEE 802.3 standard for max length is somewhere around 350 feet, im looking for the exact number right now.
