Yes that will be sure to fix a faulty motherboard almost as well as putting a vase of flowers on your head and sprinkling sawdust on the case

Too bad you don't have a pic, sounds like the Aerogel and a few caps went on you. If you had a pic then we might be able to help or if you post the locater tags indicated beside the components.

its not always as simple as replacing the caps.. at least in my experience ther is always other damage that is just not able to be seen even after i have replaced burnt caps... but its worth a try.

Ouch, well it usually looks worst before cleaning but I don't see too much hope in this one.

If that was my board then I would replace the mobo and hdd, package up this board with the hdd and sell it if some wants to recover the hdd and/or pull off it ram and such.

I was about to post that I've had smoke come out where I didn't properly solder a wire to the board and covered it with electrical tape, and the tape started burning, but DAMN that's a toasted board. Your best bet as suggested by Perplexer is the buy some more magic smoke and a new motherboard

Can't see the pic, but it sounds bad. My first idea when i saw the title was the foxlink psu connection, the whole power cord scam but obviously not.

Good luck getting it fixed.

Electronics run on magic smoke.  Let out the smoke, and it stops working!
