I really want her to do some crossover STufF, cuz I think she's got a great voice, it'd be so nice to hear her singing with different types of music, I'd really like her to feature on some hardcore drum'n'bass/metal/rap type music doing vocals, HELL'S YEAH!

You guys should be ashamed! How hard is it to drag the mouse to an age group? Or is it that thinking of your age is too stressful and hard?
16 for me.
lol who's 61+? never knew that unless someone messin around.
Seriously, aside from issues of legality (contractual agreements and whatnot), chronological age means little in cyberia when everybody plays nice. We've all encountered folks well below the age of majority who possess wisdom, style, etc. usually considered far advanced than that of their median age group. Then there's the... **ahem** ... more "seasoned" than many who shouldn't be entrusted with a book of matches, let alone a keyboard.
All that aside, I'd still jump into a mosh pit in a nanosecond, believe it!

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet...
This poll was started in 2002. People that voted back then are still seen as the same age as they were back in 2002, even though they are (now) 3 years older now. There is no option to vote again... Looks like I'm going to be 22 forever.
This poll is skewed. It makes the average XS member seem younger than he really is.

The only reason I haven't ever stated my age was the fact that I didn't want to be considered a typical 15 year old stereo type. Though, through being here, I believe that the people here are respectful enough to consider me as an adult.

first gaming manic miner spectrum
0-3 year olds can't type or write yet. Unless they're freak geniuses. But 100 year old can still type or write. so i think the numbers are not as accurate as they appear. An old person can come here too. If they want. What's stopping them. I sure some 100 year olds have come here, but not alot Im sure. But the fact that they didn't vote in the poll remains. But how can 0-3 year olds vote? I think that the intervals are too broad and not representative of general population. it's blind and not sensible.
Just out of curiosity, I would like to know how old some of the modders of xbox scene are. As for me, I'm 16. Post away!
This has been many, MANY times before...might be better off searching than waiting for all the replies to stream in.

I'm thirteen, I have a modded xbox with a switch that turns the chip on and off (i installed it myself) i can program in Visual Basic.
I am thirteen = I1am1thirt2en (i dont know compression)
I'm 13 (14 in March)
How old did you HONESTLY think i was?
so am i
babies..... 27...
ok, are we being serious here? Just wanna make sure. Can't tell if you are or not. I wonder how old Yoda.. er I mean opjose is.. hehehe.. Knows everything he does, yes. Im 26. Been into computers since I was just out of diapers.
I am 462 years old.
He is, don't question it.. hehehe.. I have seen him say that in other posts as well... So, care to share the secret of eternal youth? I think I would have killed myself long before I ever got to be that old if it were possible. Car crash, plane crash, something would have done me in. Unless I were superman, hey, does superman live forever? Anyone else like Smallville on WB? That show kicks ass. Let's see how far off topic I can go with this.. .. oh wait, minors in the house.. go to your rooms little ones or else..
ok, that's better...
I am you guy's uncle
look at gacts pic, he doesnt look 462 years old
That's why I asked for his secret to eternal youth.. come on kiddie, catch up here... :rotfl:
I seriously doubt that 50% are 18-24.... look at all the posts where the person can't even search a forum, or read a few tuts. I honestly think the average age hovers around 13-16, and most were lying on the pole (for some reason, teens want to fake like they're old enough to buy alcahol =-).
Gackt uses necromancy to reanimate his corpse when he dies, and stays eternally young by bathing in the blood of virgins once a moon.
I'm going to be 21 this December, to get back on subject.
I have the fortane of youth as i an 30,000 years old,if you wish to buy my secret it will cost you about $10.00 US

wth is that - Dkoikadabra??
Im 27 years young........that young part just makes me feel like im still hip and INTO it.
Just call me Grandpa. i can remember when the first IBM PC came out. Wait - i can remember when we got an Apple in my High School Library.
The days before Cisco. When all MS had was a word processor....
I can remember watching the Vietnam War on TV (waiting for Scooby Doo to come on I must admit)...
** sigh **
I feel 18 though!!!
G
Well let's see...
Back in my day, if you wanted to play a video game, you'd have to spend hours and hours and hours typing it out from the back of a magazine!
Well then - you must remember Avaoln Hill games!! Remember Squad-Leader? On the hexagon boards and the little cardboard tanks and the 300 rules you had to process (and random values obtained by throwing dice 10 0r 12 times) and keep track of every move?
Ahhh.... THAT was entertainment!!!
And I have to admit... I STILL watch Scooby Doo. How does Thelma do it? They always get the guy the guy!!! I never figure out who it is either....
"if it weren't for you damn kids.... the gold/diamond/whatever would be mine by now!!!!!
Man, when the first PC was out, I was already well into copying games via cassette drive on my Atari 400. I remember going to copy parties where we had stacks of dual cassette players and spent hours swapping games on cassettes. Anyone remember Compute Magazine? Lots of hours of programming from those mags, just to make a simple frogger game. All those damn data statements!!!
10 Welcome to my data hell, goto 20
20 data 10,22,61,35,52,73,63,72,1,73,72
and on and on with those data statements, and one wrong # and the program didn't work.. that was hell if you had a typo in one of the data lines. I even modded my Atari 400 though, upgraded from 4K of memory to 48K and built an external keyboard with real keys, not those flat ones. You could actually use the keyboard on your lap. Made out of wood and plexiglass. Had a power switch on it also. Those were the days...
I thought u were that age bagel
I am 13 going on 14 and how old are u really GTac01?
yeah - I am amazed when I see my daughter watching Scooby on Nick Jr. Makes me want to cry...
I used to have a 1-button joystick.
I am going to start another post - "What was the first computer game you ever played?"
look for it in General...
Ghazi
What was the first COMPUTER game you ever played.
For me it was that bi-plane "pong" type game that was 2-player at the arcade. You flew around a 1D screen and could have a single shot in the air at any one time, but had to wait until it left the screen to "fire" again....
I guess the first REAL computer game I played was that text-based Cave Adventure compiled on COBOL.
G.
Check out the new post in General Chat...

I think I out grew Scooby-doo, its a great cartoon, but seen em all. My fav cartoons now are Justice League and He-Man on Cartoon network, also X-Men Evolution on WB. Batman Beyond kicked major a$$, I am so bummed it was canceled. Same boat as Dark Angel, good shows gone over budget and met the axe.
I wonder if kids who are 8 years old now will look back on the XBOX with such fond memories? What will games look like 30 years from now? Fully 3D holographic running on a 100 terabit optical chip the size of a transistor?
Damn the first home system I played was even before the Atari 2600... It was brown I remember had like 4-8 games that you could chose from with a selector switch...
Black and white of course.. pong was one of them I think...
pong here
was addicted
C64/128 were not the same, although they really never made much for the 128 to support the extras it had. I think the 128 had a 1571 floppy drive, which was better than the 1531 the C64 had. Taxing my brain trying to remember all the hardware parts back then. The Vic20 was a PC a few years before C64, so it was not an addon. You are correct about the tapes, that is exactly what they sounded like when loading. High pitch eeeeeeeeee, pause, eeeeeeeee, pause.. for an hour for a 20K game. Ghostbusters was a pretty fun game on C64. Got pretty frustrating though if I remember right.
vic 20? i thought I was old.....
Never had a computer till only a few yeats ago but we did have pong on the atari when we were kids.
HAHA. Sinclar ZX Spectrum (or something like that). It looked like a calculator with oversized ruber keys. I think it had 16k of memory. You needed an interface the size of a pack of smokes to plug in a joystick and of course tapes were the data storage method.
Those were the days.
Im 15. Turn 16 on Jan 30.

Yes the 128 was an upgraded 64. Commodore upgraded most of the peripherals at the same time, but most still worked on the 64. The 1521 disk drive had already become the 1541, and with the 128 became 1581. This actually related to single sided floppies, double density floppies and finally double sided double density floppies! All the disk droves were connected through the serial port, so they wokred about 8 times faster than tape, but still rediculously slow. With all those ports on the 64/128 (the entire address range could be accessed from the expansion port), using a serial connector was the worst decision!
The Vic 20 was the 64's little brother. With only 16K of RAM (plus 4K ROM, making the 20 total). The 20 was upwards compatible with the 64.
wait there was this other game I played on the 64 it involved cavemen type charaters and pies or something like that....man i wish i could remember the name of it....you were on this stone unicycle of sorts and tried to collect pies and not get eaten by this cave monster or something....See back then i didn't know you could buy other games for the C64 so I all i knew of was the game my pops had gotten somehow...and some typing game where you try to hit the letter as it falls down the monitor.....I was incredibly young so ya....
Moon Lander on the TI-994A
copier!!!!
that is what i though but then i was like no that is too easy but yeah probably was just called BC :/
how young?
12
I have to stop coming to these forums now i feel like i am out of place....21 here.... all ya'll still in middle school and moving onto Highschool to meet the real world....Its funny, my mom teaches Jr High and man Jr. Highers think they are the shiznit...lol they walk around like little G's and think they are tough...it is the funniest thing.
im 15, turn 16 in april
HOLY CRAP!
BC's QUEST FOR TIRES!!
thats what it was, I loved that game, any guy that could drink coffee and smoke a butt while unicyling on a stone wheel rules in my book,
thanks for the great memory!
what a disappointment too when you beat the game the girl you saved was pretty ugly.
As for ghostbusters, it was frustrating, the key and the gatekeeper would always catch each other because I always crossed the streams,
damn its nice to know they are some oldies in here.
who remembers Astro Wars the hand held game and you had to dock the space ship and anyone remember tomy tronics where you hold them up to your eyes
I am 31 i have been obsessed since i was about 8 and i can probably remember almost anything from almost any machine .
i really believe that consoles started with the sega master system though. even though it was shit .i mean when it came to treating and comparing them with arcades . before that i dont think anyone really compared anything with arcades.
But i have not been so bothered about it lately because i just feel its all the same ideas getting copied over and over again.
the best console i think that was ever released was the neo geo .
I can remember a game called skyfox for the amiga but that was when they werent out in england and they were 1,500 dollars in america
but.
there is one console i remember but never got the chance to see it .
it was called a Sharp X68000 it was arcade perfect and was only ever released in japan . there is an emulator but i can find any roms .
anyway i could go on forever baffling about all sorts of stuff from years ago .
tell me some on the oldest games youve played .
Frogger on a Tandy/RadioShack cassete loaded 64k system. Man those were the days.
Adventure: The Collosal Cave
On a PDP-8, then later on a VAX!
when i was real little, but the most memorable for me was the atari and yars revenge, dig dug, frogger, q-bert, and now and then my cousin would stop by with his coleco he had that BC game too! ah man the memories
heh, first game i remember is umm, some game where you run from rock, heh, don't know whats is called, it was computer game, like 14 years ago.
oh yea you guys remember movie called Tron?
it's awesome in a way tho he's like a smaller me he watches all those old transformers cartoons, loves to play video games, it's kinda funny you don't notice where time went, til you really just sit there and think about all the stuff you did, think about what happened to all your old friends, i'm pretty lucky my best friend all the way from elementary still lives in the same town, haha i joke around with him now and then and say hey man you remember when we used to be cool .......ah well just thought i'd share that, back to turning 26 and being uncool
hide-n-seek 3yrs old
can't remember really, was my brothers, but i do remember alot of games on atari, really wasn't into pc's until i was 10!!
playing carmen sandiago on a 386 from one of those big as floppy disk!!
n00bvin - two words NEO GEO
that system was light years ahead of NES
30
Why'd I get back into Console gaming..
Well it looks like we have enough old-timers here...
Who wants to have an XBOX hack conference? We could post it around the other boards. i can setup a website. We can all get together in london or somewhere for a weekend and have a "conference"
Getting a venue would be cheap enough with a couple of donations... (we would keep the EXACT location secret until just before when only the confirmed guests would be emailed.)
I'll bring the 100-meg ethernet switches and the cables. I Monitors would be the only problem... f everyone pitched in we probably could do it though. It could be fun. (Even better if we timed it to coincide with one of the gaming conferences....)
Thoughts? I like the idea of all us old farts hooking up a 16-player HALO setup....
See my post on XBOX conference...

Gifted child.
What do you plan to do when you grown up? |
your nick should be Mr. Sarcastic not Gact
My first arcade game was of course space invaders. Never liked lunar lander that much, or asteroids, but in the town I grew up in I was the Defender champ. I could roll the counter over twice on defender. I was like a drug addict trying to get enough quarters to play....
Gackt....
If you are 400-odd years old, how do you know when you are grown up? I mean are you like middle aged, or still a kid?
What is your lifespan?
Ghazzzzzzzz......
Yes i am serious and i do think people who act hard do suck, as i am surrounded by them every day. I just like a laf, thats all. I can't wait 2 be 25, i'll be hackin xbox 3....mmm them'll be the days....!

Lode Runner was great! Anybody remember Miner 2049er? Must've wasted 50 hours of my life on that one.
XBConnect doesn't work for me, I don't know why.
Don't be in such a hurry to be 25. It's not all that fun. When your 25 you look back at being 12-16 (I do anyway), and think those were the most fun years of my life so far. I ran a 4 line BBS then, was heavily into PCs and consoles then. I had my share of trouble with the law, but minor crap, and being a minor rules for that stuff. Just don't go out and hurt anyone else. It sucks when your 14 and just wanna be at least 21, but when your 21, and paying rent/utils/car and every other payment you can think of on your own, have to work 40 hours a week, you think that maybe 14 was not so bad after all, a little awkward at times maybe, but if you can just be mature enough to realize that the clothes you wear means nothing, peer pressure is lame. Don't worry about what others think of you, and just focus on what YOU think of you. Most of all, have fun, graduate, and be safe.
Waaay-Heeey! Some Sage Advice from Ace.....
ANyway when you begin to approach 40 you no longer sit around remembering what it was like when you were 14 or indeed even 25. If, like me to wait to have kids, then you spend all day in an exhausting never-ending cycle of changing diapers, fixing toys, attending unreasonable needs and all the time striving for the goal of bedtime.
i know why parents are like they are....
Ha ha XBconnect...
I am in the boonies. Farmland outside Cambridge UK, the closest I get to a broadband connection is ISDN and a shitty ISP.
I gotta say being 14 just plain sucked donkey balls. Admittedly I'm only 23 now, but life just gets better and better after leaving school, IME.
Hell, in school we had to spend eight unpaid hours a day listening to poorly-paid losers who chose a profession that involved spending time with little boys. We then went home to a family life that catered for our 40-year-old parents rather than 14-year-old kids. That means jack-all by way of entertainment, early bedtimes, rigorous house rules, and god knows what else. Yuck!
Now, I get paid enough that I actually got a mention at my company board meeting as a cause of financial instability. I live in a converted warehouse, and I can spend my time playing on a hugely powerful games console plugged into a gigantic plasma screen. I can watch any one of who-knows-how-many channels. I can eat what I like, when I like, how I like (haven't yet started eating cereal straight out of the packet, but give me time).
If I'd known that in 10 years time I'd be playing on a games console that outperforms a Cray, that I'd have enough channels that just by going through them all there'll be something different on the first one, and that whoever said "happiest days of your life" was a complete f*cking moron, I'd've been a much happier child!
Waaaay too many people keep going on and on about how great childhood is, which can really make kids terrified of what the future holds. I distinctly remember thinking age 12-13 that "if it's only downhill from here, I'm in for a pretty miserable existence".
I think there are loads of people for whom childhood was a two-decade pisser, and who have a great time as adults. I've been independent for over five years now, and it never ceases to be great! Paying bills and a tiny bit of self-responsibility is a tiny price to pay for everything you get in return. I hope all the kids on this board don't pay too much attention to all these nutters yearning for some idyllic childhood (and I don't mean in the teacher sense ;-) ).
Mind you, the way Al_Ghazi's talking, it sounds like the good times don't last. Time to hit Google with the phrase "extra-strength contraceptives"...
tonyf, you are 30 and your step-son is 18? thats only 12 years, how old is your wife. reminds me of Jenny Jones, "I'm twelve and I'm pregnant" episode.
Kids, don't try it now, they are a little smarter these days to that kind of stuff. War Games was a GREAT inspiration for me. I was thrown out of my house when I was 18 for getting busted with an underage Officer's daughter. In fairness, we were together for 4 years, so it wasn't like I was taking advantage if her. So, from 18, had to live in my car for about a year, working odd jobs like at Burger King just to pay for gas. Finally got a Gov't job fixing their PCs/Network and from then on I have been able to buy every toy I wanted when I was 14. Bigscreen TV, every console, and I can eat Pizza and drink soda 24/7 (Usually do also, hahaha). You have never eaten cereal out of a box? Come on, when the milk goes bad and your too baked to go to the store, cereal out the of box rulez! hahaha.. anyway.. everyone has an opinion, no one is any more right than the other... for me though, 12-16 were the best times. I had a $500/month phone bill but worked 3 jobs to pay for it, mowed lawns, paperboy, and bagged groceries.

There is a European satelitte system - but i dunno - i can't image what the delay looks like on multiplayer games when I am pulling down by satelitte and pushing up by ISDN to a different ISP. That can't work... Sort of advance-lag Is what i would expect, lag before it happened. Wait. I don't want to get into Quantum Mechanics...
Anyone remember Steve Wright, the comedian? Here is a quote: "I put instant coffee in the microwave and went back in time..."
Hey Ace,
You want gloom, it has been raining in England for 12 days now - last sunday was the only sunshine I seen in 2 weeks...
I lived in Redondo Beach for a few years. Still remember sitting down to an Earth Sandwhiche and a pint of Guinness at Henneseys. man... that was in the 80's...
Gaz....

Mind you, the way Al_Ghazi's talking, it sounds like the good times don't last. Time to hit Google with the phrase "extra-strength contraceptives"... |
Heh - lots of fiber there sonny.....
That warehouse gig sounds great!
Youth is wasted upon the young!!!
Gaz....
Minesweeper (14yr old), and in reply to that dirrect tv sattilite broadband: fist of all, yea its broadband download, but its 56k upload, so no XBL. and have you read the fine print? $99.99/month for the first year! thats $1200!
ohh, but then after that it's only $60/month, for only an increased download, not upload. Give me fiber optics for that price.
wow $99 a month! The European satelitte is only 200 Euros a year.
For $1200 a year get a T1....
Gaz...
Hahaha.. ya, an OC192 starts at $50,000 a month!! Little out of my budget.
crap... that means I'm older than bagel and gtac combined...
What freaks me out is seeing Playboy gals that were born in 1984!!!
Haha, out of YOUR budget.
Hey, just because you're undead, doesn't mean you have to flaunt it. =-)
Yeah Gackt,
You using some wierd lunar calandar?
If you use the Islamic calandar, I was born in 14-something...
Are you a buddihst or a Hindu? There are loads of those guys who clame to have been around for hundreds of years... There was one in New Jersey...
Whats the deal?
Hey Gackt,
If 50 G's a month is easy for you, why not sponsor this forum?
It would make you reaaal popular! Ebven more so than perhaps the pop-star thing...
Is that what he's suppose to be?
I've been seeing all the funky touchy feely avitar and sig pics and I couldnt quite figure out what the deal was, but I shrugged and went on.
I don't want to say on this forum what I thought when I saw his pictures....
Ok then I will...
Kind of a David Bowie.... I think david Bowie is 400 years old too - like that French guy who plays the Scottish charater in the Highlander movies.... When he tries to do a Scottish accent the french combines with it and he sounds like he is from rural Poland.
Anyone else notice that?
Wait... I am digressing a little.... Must be the Gin...
Gaz...
Where did that come from?
I was only making a joke because it is crude to brag about money (although if I could drop 50 grand a month on a data connection I might be pleased with myself too)
If your ego is so poorly constructed that you make a statement like "Out of *your* budget maybe...." Thats in poor taste, It is like me telling a Zimbabwean peasant that an order of rice from the Yokohama Rice Bowl might be out of *his* budget...
Anyway, it is kind of moot cause that photograph is a narcissistic giveaway.
Oooooh did it just get really cold in here?
Hahaha, great observation.
Concerning the calendar issue, well, I meant July 4, 1540.
I was just joking, do not take it so seriously.
I would go around shouting how much money I make or how high my IQ may be, how many games I have (actually, I have.... 4...), etc.
Don't get me wrong, I am not that kind of person.
Donkey Kong at the arcade.

Sorry man just couldn't resist....It's funny to me now because of what Retarded monkey did....so now everytime I see your sig I laugh....blame it on the RM!!!!!!!!!
LOL!
Soo... you are a Cancer then?
gentle, or maybe deep in higher meditative thought. It must be the soft lighting that has kept you alive for 400 years...
Gaz.
Well, I got a question for ya then
.(and you are old enough that you probably should be able to remember). Think back to 1582, when the Gregorian calendar was introduced. Before that, what calendar were you using? (when you were born 42 years earlier), it may have been "ab urbe condita" or perhaps you converted the date from the lunar-japanese calandar of the period? In either even can you please fill us in on the math you used to backdate the Gregorian through the Julian (or asian) calendars to arrive at an exact date July 4th?
Just out of interest,
Cheers,
Gaz.
I know how Gackt has stayed alive all these years, and when I said I was 13 that was just a cover, as I am 465 years old. If you would like to share this old age with us priveliged few, you have to follow this stone age link to:
http://www.alexchiu....life/index.html
This is an ancient technology, using special magnetic fields to keep you young, supple and well, old.
You could save money by just living under some power-lines. Noone wants the land and you have all the magnetic fields you can eat.
The best part (that I can think of) about living forever, is that when you get put away for 400 years by MS, you will still be young and healthy when you get out...
Gaz...
Great observation.
Ah HAH! I figured out what Gackt is, then!
A sorcerer!
Don't worry, Gackt, if you just keep imbibing the mystically charged tea and practicing your Ki arts, you'll never age! =-P
I would still like an answer to my calendar question (above) please.
I have been checking out Japanese calendars on the web (due to this thread) , and between the 9th and 17th century (862-1685) they used a system based upon the ruling house and lunar phases, extended to the later Jokyo calendars. Calculating dates before the Gregorian was introduced in the late 19th century is immensely difficult, especially when converting dates to pre-Gregorian Julian calendars.
I just want to know how you know it was July 4th? Must be some exciting math!
Check out this superb site on ancient Japanese calendars here? Maybe you remember some of these - they may even have been yours 400 years ago!!
http://www.ndl.go.jp.../02_index2.html
Gaz.
Thats Ok - Your answer is deeply existential and thats enough for me!!!
I am very open to new ideas, but having an open mind means that I am inquisitive. A lack of emperical understanding is perhaps no basis for my doubting that you possess an intrinsic knowledge of your birthdate.
Gaz...
damn, i thought bagel and gtac01 were older, at least 18, just cause it says u guys are xbox geniuses. A lot of bagel's replies were dumb, but I still though he was older. Is anyone here a geezer, and I mean like 70+,?. An xbox hacking grandpa, that'd be sweet. oh, and I'm 16, 17 in January.

This should never have been in the modding forum. Shame on the original poster.
Seems clear that the poster thought that people older than 24 years in age may not enjoy video game console, or moddding of them anymore. Funny.. considering it's the people who are 24 years and older who were the first to enjoy video games.. and many still do today.
HSDEMONZ, 30
First Gaming Console.. Pong,
Favourite Gaming Console Atari 2600
Notable Consoles Over the Years: NES, Genesis, SNES, DC

Always thought Lepper would be older than that too!

Heck yeah.. I'm also one of those who had a 2600 right after my Pong. And not tired yet. I'm from the pre Nintendo-generation who know that REAL consoles come from the US. Like the Xbox.
