Title: Problems Locking Drive In Xbox
Post by: davegregoire on August 02, 2005, 01:06:00 PM
I have a 1.6 xbox with a x3 chip installed and a western digital 320gb harddrive. The first time I ever tried to lock the drive, I had no problem but thats when I found out that I had a banned eeprom. After this, I went to my other xbox which is just sitting around gathering dust and has never been on live. It is also a 1.6. I extracted the eeprom and flashed it onto my modded xbox with configmagic 1.6 The hard drive was unlocked when it upgraded the eeprom and I saw that the eeprom had changed sucessfully. I then tried to lock the harddrive from configmagic and all went good....until I restarted and got a error 6 screen. After panic and a lot of disapointment, I was able to recovery the origonal eeprom (had saved it to a pc) and flashed the xbox back. Sadly, I was never able to recover the drive. I ordered another brand new WD320gb harddrive and prepared the drive again. This time, I purchased a new virgin eeprom online. I flashed it again with configmagic and it said sucessfull. Instead of locking the drive this time, I restarted to make sure I could. Everything went fine.
I thought that locking the drive with configmagic had caused the problem so I launched Evox and locked the drive inside this dash. After telling me that the lock had been sucessful, I restarted my system with the mod disabled and boom! hit with another error6. Luckily, I had backed up the eeprom to the stock harddrive and put the stock drive back in. I was able to recovery this time and got the 320gb working with the origonal eeprom. When I lock the drive, it seems to be locking with the original eeprom, even though the flash has been sucessful each time.
What am I doing wrong? any help would be great cause I am ordering another 320gb harddrive to try again. I have heard of people locking the drive from within the x3 configlive but do you think this would work? I checked on the database of lockable drives and they have all said this model wd320 is lockable. What Gives?
