Does anyone have a tutorial to flashing the HL-DT 8050. I'm fairly sure what i have to do (Remove from XBOX, put in PC, run flash program in DOS with boot disc) but i also wondered if anyone knew exactly which arguements to use (or if they have a .bat file)
Thanks

Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm asking basically the same question.
I'm told that my GDR-8050L won't read CDR media without a firmware update.
I did find another thread talking about it and some other drives, but it's 60 pages long and my eyes are getting tired! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Simply put, is there a method to let this GDR-8050L drive read CD-R media?
Thanks!

Come on guys. I wanna know the answer to this also. I mean, I can handle the flashing but I wanna know if you need a firmware for sure and if it is in the usual places, or what, cus I did the hardware mods and it still won't read them.

No you don't. You can hook up any cd drive and read cd-rs from it as long as you use an IDE and power splitter to keep the harddrive and xbox dvd drive hooked up (unless you have a chip or have done a TSOP flash) in addition to the CD or whatever drive.

I have that already. Lg 8164 on top of the xbox, But I would like to put the drive back in my computer if my 8050l can read them. I watch alot of DivX/XviD on my main xbox which has the 8164 upgrade, but I cannot watch them on my xbox in the bedroon without pulling my other 8164 out of my computer. Plus I am bored and need a new project. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) So yea, I did the 1k resister mod, and, nothing. I tried like 6 different brand names of cd's to no avail. Now I am re-interested because of the mention of a firmware. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)
