So, a friend gave my their xbox to look at knowing absolutely nothing about it other than it plays games. So, it is not modded, and just over a year old so out of warranty. When powered on, you get the green bios logo with the loud sounds and all, then the MS dashboard looks like it starts to load, then the screen flashes black and the whole process starts over again. No matter if there is a disc in the drive or not. just a constant re-boot cycle.
Thought it might be a power or bios issue, but it appears to get past all that and looks like the dash is loading, but then nothing but a re-start after that. Never actually see the whole dashboard... So, anyone know what it might be? I am thinking either the HD or the Bios? Anything I can do that will not cost them an arm and a leg? My solution so far is to add a mod chip and a nicer HD and start from scratch with that, but just because I cannot think of anything else. Any suggestions from anyone out there would be great! thanks a lot!

Sounds like a clockloop. The easiest solution would be to hotswap with Xboxhdm and restore the MS dash, or softmod if you'd like.

Sounds like a clock loop to me too. I got mine out of a clock loop by letting it reboot for about half an hour (or until it comes out of the loop). As soon as it does, make sure you set the clock.

Sometimes people get out of clockloops by pressing a bunch of buttons on the controller, plugging in a network cable, putting a DVD movie in, plugging extra controllers in.... I'm not exactly sure what really works, but I've been stuck in one before and it does suck. Try everything above, and if that doesn't work then just let it set rebooting for a couple hours.
Good Luck.

ok, first off, is the clock loop when you can see the green of the background for like a split second before it reboots?
and 2nd, what can you do, other than what was mentioned above to fix this, because none of it seems to work....

any help....please? :(

1. Did your friend ever softmod? ; If so , he used outdated fonts that cause the xbox to reboot when your out of power for a while.
2. If it is softmoded, Unscrew the xbox, unplug the ATA cable from the dvd drive.
Than make a xboxhdm cd with all the orginal c files (slayers) even you can softmod it with a newer exploit.
Than reboot your computer and hotswap, boot the xboxhdm cd and remake the c: drive.
Exit xboxhdm and shut off the computer and the xbox. Plug the ata back in the dvd-rom and try and see if it works
