i think for ease of use xlink.. its just so simple .. turn on the xbox.. get your mate to turn his on.. the just play .. no joining rooms etc like in xbconnect..

Must admit.. in XBC i saw a lot of lag in Top Spin ... havent seen any in xlink yet! <

It disappeared because of all the flame wars that came around with us, as well as their TOTAL lack of support for the actual XBox scene as such.

We don't support piracy, but we definately support homebrew development. They don't support either and aren't really a part of the XBox-Scene group of teams etc.

They have different visions, as do we...  <

Right.

To be honest I never read that forum, I just noticed one day it was 'gone' shame it had to happen but Xlink seems the best option anyhow...

imo this post is of little value, as if a simaler post was posted on a XBC forum it would have everyone saying that XBC is the best and Xlink is crap.

But saying that I love xlink and its the best. and i dont care either way for XBConnect.

EDIT: I would recomend that anyone who is unsure about what service to use, try them all and find the one that suits you. they both do the job its all down to personal taste.

Hi, I have xbox live & have just recently got xbconnect & xlink working, now I cant really say which one i think is best, but what i can say is that xlink is very very quite compared to xbconnect, with xbconnect there are people chatting all the time, games rooms being set up & loads of people online, with xlink there is no one chatting, & hardly anyone online, it feels very lonely. Is this because xbconnect has been out longer than xlink ? & in what way do you think xlink is better then xbconnect ?  <

yes xbc was out for a long time before xlink. xlink is still very new (publicly) and is still in beta also.

personally i like it for its interface and because of boxlink, not to mention i like the guys that support it (hehe).

hmm i'd say xbconnect, because i'm with them, and our mod policy is as follows:

We do not support the illegal portion (ripping, software hacks etc) and what not however hardware mods are a ok, the fact that we dont support the modding scene is due to our current relations with MS.

The forums were removed just basically due to lack of posting, because we have our own separate forums, people posted on there rather than here, so it was merged with GameSpy in the Other Tunnels catagory. Comparison wise, XBC is still one window (i like more) and we have chatters 24/6/365 opposed to xlink with much fewer members chatting, As to games, we cater to mostly Halo players however all other tunnel games work and operate on it fine, just a matter of finding them. We also have live tech support via help chat rooms etc. And indeed as jz stated we have been out longer, GameSpy Arcade is the oldest tunnel program, but due to the ads and what not, people have stepped away into others like XBC and Xlink, Taz has a very good point, just try them all and see what suits you, if you like chatting and gaming, i'd suggest XBC just because we have on average 200 + users chatting at any given time  <

I agree that a global chat area was overlooked in RC2 Omega. It really should have been there.

RC3 Kai has chat areas all in-built, and we're not running it from an IRC server and channel like XBConnect does (the pitfall of this is if the IRC server goes down the chat goes down with it, whereas we use our Orbitals to handle the chat, meaning ALL orbitals would have to come offline to take chat away, not to mention you wouldn't even be able to log-in ;))  <

I agree with most people here, i think xlink is the better platform, less lag etc...   however it is no where near popular enough at the present time!

Hope it grows soon....    <

Okay, not a flame, just a valid point here.

1. what is an 80 gig drive for if not for ripping? all the emus in the world wouldnt need an 80 gig drive me thinks.

2. how come so many people host on xbc with the totally incompatible pirate version (as in with retail) of r6-3?

3. the forums were removed for more than just lack of posting. all parties involved know that to be the case.

I think these are valid points. The first two are especially that way to MS if they have any sort of "support" to xbc, I'm sure.  <

i'm hoping that with the integration of bo-xlink type apps in future dashboards, we'll see a growth in the xlink userbase.

What pushed me towards Xlink was Bo-Xlink's ability to work directly from the Xbox.  I play games in my living room on the big screen and although I could just plug my laptop into the switch I have there I like a seemless solution.  Xlink runs on my server upstairs and I can do what I need with Bo-Xlink.  Pretty solid solution for me since I don't run a home theater PC that I could easily toggle between.

Now as far as Halo goes, I don't think anyone in their right mind would say that XBC isn't the best place for it.  That being said, I don't really play it much and prefer other games (I also have no one else in my house that plays games so I am a single which complicates things).

Which tunnel service is best depends on what your individual preferences and situtation is.  For me, Xlink (although not perfect) fits the bill.

I started this poll before I played either xlink or xbconnect and now after trying both of the i have to say Xlink is definately mainly because it has Bo-link on it. My comp and xbox are in diff rooms and I hate to running back and forth to check is the game started or what ppl are up to. So i have to say Bo-xlink kicks ass. xbc is just as good and program and u'll probably find more ppl playing on there...but it would be better if it was supported through the xbox.

wont happen, xbc doesnt support modding xboxes. TD made a little app to do this as a "workaround" but probably wont do to much with it now that kai is out and gaining popularity.

Yea, XBC is the place to go for Halo...Other games, I'd say XLink and ease of use I'd say XLink.  But your can't beat all those people on Halo for XBC!

Is that right? Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is having problems with Top Spin and XBConnect. The lag wasn't so bad, we only got the occasional stall. However, the game disconnected at random, and I found out XBConnect completely hangs at the time that it happens. Not sure why...

Anyway, I'm looking foward to seeing how XLink works out once we get it working. That Bo-XLink certainly sounds like a nice feature.
