Post by: Conker the squirrel on January 11, 2004, 07:10:00 PM
Hey, Im using Windows XP with IE 6 with Cable @ 2500mb/s DL and 1200mb/s UL (dynamic IP) and a DI-704P router.  I need to know what to do to the Network card and to the router to make Xlink work. Thanks in advance.  <

Whats the problem?

Have you forwarded the two ports 34518 and 34519 from the wan side to the local ip where you run the application?

I think that in the 704 you go under NAT and there you should have the port forwarding feature.

Other then this there shouldn´t be any problem och extra setup needed.

Go to the help section on X-link and look how to forward ports and/or enable UPnP.  They also have a section on router configurations which tells you exactly how to configure each brand of router.  I believe they use your exact model as an example for DLink.  Any other problems post em here.  <

I can't get into the Web Installer now, and I have tried everything to get it to work.  My firmware is 3.00 and my model is C1.  Also what cables go where?  I have 2 8 meter Cat6e patch cables, 2 I dunno of and 1 xbox link cable.  <

You don't need an xbox link cable...You need to run one ethernet cable from your router to your computer and one ethernet cable from your router to your xbox.  It is not supposed to be an xbox link or crossove cable it you are using a router.  By web installer do you mean the "online" manual?  Type in 192.168.0.1 into your browser address bar.  This is the default IP of your router.  From there, put in your name and password...Once you get this far, let us know.  <

No, i have gotten into the menu once, but then after that I can never get into it, at all.  I wanto know how to set the NIC card cause I think that is the problem.  Also how can I get off windows Xp firewall.

edit:  Now I can't get the Dynamic IP to work( i got into the menu).  But I just found out when it said it was rebooting I have to reboot it manually,  I feel like such a dumbass even tho it seemed it was doing it itself.  Maybe tomorrow I will be playin with you ppl.  :D

To disable the WindowsXP Firewall:

Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections>right click on LAN and hit properties>Go to Advanced and uncheck the box for the firewall.

By set the NIC card, do you mean forward your ports and set your IP address or do you have that done?  <

well, i guess to foward my ports and set ip address.  Whenever i set the obtain Ip address in the TCP/ip congiuration it never works and I have to enter 192.168.0.1 and stuff like that.  Also when the D-link web menu says the device is resettin what do i do?  Turn off the power to the router, leave it or click continue?  <

Conker I have the same router and I have the same problem as you.  Apparently it didnt like a flash I did at one time, and now it asks me to reflash the router every time I try to get into the web setup.  It doenst matter what version I attempt to flash it with now either, it simply wont flash.  I guess I have a semi dead router, I'm basically stuck with the last settings  I had.  (Including DMZ hosting :/)  I have grown to HATE this router.  <

Have you tried resetting the router to default settings?  <

BGreet, how did you get it to work in the first place.   Do you have a user step-by-step guide?  <

Conker: to get it working this is what you do step by step

1:  If you have more than one networking card make sure the correct network card that is attached to the router from the computer is selected

2:  Open up your web browser and type in http://192.168.0.1 (or click link i've provided)

3:  Enter your login password

4: Click on the advanced tab

5: Virtual Server should now pop up (if not click on virtual server on the bottom)

6: Type in, under service port, 34518

7: Under server ip put in the ip address of your computer (you can find this out by going into start- control panel- network settings-select the network card attached to your router and it should be listed on the left hand side of your screen in the blue section)

8: Click on enable

9: Repeat steps 6-8 but instead of putting in the port 34518 add ports 34519 and 8602

10: Click on Basic on the bottom of your screen

11: Click on tools and select Reboot

That should allow you to open up xlink and connect.  Good luck!

In response to fin on resetting the router: actually what I meant previously was that in an attempt to upgrade my routers firmware the upgrade went awry and left my router in a dead state constantly asking for an update to the firmware.  I was finally able to correct it after months of not being able to by some strange method.  <

well I can get into that menu, found out i had to minimize the window and re-open.  THen it would ask me for admin and password.  I was wondering what to do when it says reboot, but now I have to shut off the modem then turn it back on, then shut off the gateway (router) and turn it on.  I guess that will solve many things, and I knew off the ports I have to open.  I heard XBC was worse then Xlink so I am going to stick with xlink.  Luckily i have some 25' Cat6e cables.  <
