Title: Wireless Config Question
Post by: swetly on January 09, 2004, 05:28:00 PM
Hi guys,

May be there is answer already but the search engine doesn't work

I read on XBOXLINK site that I can make wireless connection just if I have 'WET11' wireless ethernet bridge.
I'll get my box tommorow  B)  so my question is:
In the place I'm staying I've wireless internet and I use SMC wireless ethernet adapter(SMC 2670W) to connect my laptop to it. Can I just take another one wireless adapter and connect it to the XBOX(I can get it for free  ;) ). Will this work? My plan is to change the IP of the XBOX in this way to match the local ethernet...

So any suggestions??

If you get your XBox either a Wireless Ethernet Bridge or a Wireless Gaming Adapter, your XBox will then be up on your wireless network and yes, you will be able to connect after setting up the correct MAC addresses in XLink. (Config -> Advanced Options -> WET11)

Make sure you're running the 2.2.4 update.  <

whats your setup?

to setup my wet11 i  plugged my xbox into the router and went to the 'search for games' screen on a game. this provided me with the xbox mac referred to as 'real mac address'

i then plugged the xbox into the wet11 and searched for games again. more macs appeared and i selected the wet11 mac which i knew from setting up the bridge.

My set up is as follows; d-link wireless router (pc connected to router) and X-box connected via wireless with a D-link wireless bridge.

Last night I did as you said and set halo looking for a game and I then saw the MAC address of the Xbox.

In the visable MAC addresses I don't see the MAC address of the Bridge.

Managed to start a game with a friend but if I hosted a game he could see me but I couldn't see him, if he hosted the game we could both see each other but then link would fail saying that I quit.

Any Ideas?

If your PC is hardwired to the router, and the XBox is on a WEB, then you don't need to set up any options in XLink.

Use the 'Clear WET11' button.  <

Hmmm, tried that. Still having the same problem which appears to be at my end, not my friends as he managed to have a game with someone else last night.

Could to be down to firewalls etc. I have norton and have disabled that. Also added ports to firewall in the router. Still no joy.  <

dfunked will know best, i am only familiar with my particular setup. when you said before you could not find your bridge mac does that mean the wet11 options were not setup right as  this would stop it from working, infact the problems you describe i had myself when i chose the wrong mac address as my real xbox address so try again and i reckon it will work

use this post and follow it exactly to setup the bridge properly

I had a similar problem. Could see games, and had set up WET11 MAC in Advanced Settings, but when I connected to a game it would immediately drop and tell me the connection was lost. This fixed it.

Go to your wet11 setup (i.e. in the browser) and turn on "Enable MAC Address cloning" (top right in my Firmware Version: 1.5.4). Hit "Apply". When the page reloads, the WET11's MAC Address will be 00:00:00:00:00:00. This is what you want.

Now start X-Link and make the X-Box look for games. You'll see the Local X-Box show up with its real MAC Address (should be 0050...). If you don't have "Enable MAC Address cloning" turned on, you'll see the MAC address of your WET11 - no good (should be, but it isn't).

It seems that X-Link disregards non-X-Box Mac Addresses when you actually connect to games. The WET11 nomination stuff in the Advanced Setting seems to have no impact on whether or not X-Link sees the X-Box. I was able to see games and connect, but it would immediately drop when I joined the game. Now all fixed.

Job, Jobbed.

Now works. With a bit of messing around with WET11 MAC addresses I've got it working.

Thanks for all your help.

Basically had to enter the MAC address of the WEB into both the MAC address fields.

Hoorah!
