Title: People Who Bring Lagg To Games
Post by: valius on January 07, 2004, 01:58:00 PM
Let me start the list with a guy named

TYOTYO08

This person tottaly LAGGED out a 10 player game of R6-3 sad.gif

He didn't have a headset so it was hard to tell him to  go away (F*CK OFF)

I typed many a msg in the room chat, his own Team mates even shot him
I guess he must be that dumb that he can't take the hint.

If you have a high ping don't spoil it for others by joining big games, host your own or play with others in your own area.

I'm sure Matzy, Wireless, Xboxgeek + a few others would back me up on this

May I suggest to TD that he give a few trusted gamers the ability to either Kick or report people who lag games out on purpose?

It's no fun watching a Lan+internet+Lan game go down the tubes because of 1 person

I love.gif  Kai I hate grr.gif  grr.gif  grr.gif people who ruin it for others.

Some method to police or filter laggers sounds cool.  <

That was funny   It was cruel but fair :P

@Valius it was great playing with you last night. I can see I'm gonna have to get a lot of practise in if I wanna stay more than 30 seconds in a game  :jester: boy some of you guys are good

Cheers

There is an easy solution to this.

Create a room.

If you dont want someone in your room kick them... they will be disconnected from the game.

In RC3 its a bit different at the moment, but when rooms are implemented and say you was running a game in arena mode but you get someone who dosent leave your game, you will be able to create a room and i am assuming that the same fetures for rooms in RC2 will be implemented into the RC3 release plus perhaps more.

The person in question might not have relised they was causing the lag... but they should have some form of comunication open.  <

It was a good game last night, I bit a bullet a couple of times just seconds into the game!!!

A few player who jumped into the game last night acknowledged that they where the ones bringing lag & apologised before leaving the game biggrin.gif

Since we couldn’t talk to this guy last night or communicate with him in any way it seemed only fair shoot his ass until he got fed up & left laugh.gif

I like the R6 arena the way it is, I like the way the games are open to everyone but if it’s got to be rooms then it’s got to be rooms mad.gif

I Hope to see Matzt, Xboxgeek, Wireless & Xoom back on tonight the usual place at the agreed time TYOTYO08 you are not invited jester.gif

FYI - if you use Bo-Xlink and your computer isn't in the room (ie - the whole purpose for Bo-Xlink) there is no possibility of communication outside the headset (hopefully you can hear/understand headset communication over the television speakers).  I myself am in this situation so I can understand him not having the ability to communicate since once I join a game I have no access to chat.  Personally I have my Xbox in the living room - my server/desktop is upstairs in my office.  Tunneling software is a PITA for me without some conduit local on the Xbox.

Bo-Xlink also does not provide ping information before joining the game.  Hopefully this will end up getting addressed once Kai is fully ready but right now the only thing to do is join a game and see if there is a lot of lag - in which case you quit not knowing whether it's you or someone else in the game.  <

IMO: If you do not own a headset, stick to the games that have no voice capability.
A headset is a cheap investment ($30 US retail).

If people did that, CounterStrike on the PC wouldn't have been 1/10th as popular.  People only buy a headset once they preceive a need or some type of enhancement (hell, the vast majority of CS or other mod players on the PC still don't have one last time I checked).  If everyone without a headset never tries games that can utilize it then they will never know what they're missing and never purchase one.

If the guy is lagging the game, kick him or shoot him but it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that he can't communicate in-game nor can he see his ping before joining to realize he's going to lag it.

For me, I use the Logitech wireless controller since people have a habit of getting between me and my television at the worst possible moment (plus, that controller is the only wireless option I've seen that really works as well as a wired controller).  There is a really good wireless headset option that people are using but we're talking $150+ tax to get it set up.  I'm not enthused enough about Xbox online gaming to pony up that kind of cash at this point.

is there someway to set a ping limit for room or kai so it auto-kicks high ping.?

it boots you to central meeting place, maybe or HIGH PING group, so they can play each other?  smile.gif

ChrisF:
Then maybe all you non-communicators should have an arena to play in together.

Oh, wait a minute.....on second thought, you do.
Halo!

Sorry, I just realized I am helping corrupt this thread.  I am finished.

I am finished.

Likely the smartest thing you've done all day.

My intent was only to clarify why that given the current programing of Xlink and Bo-Xlink there would be an inability to communicate or determine latency before joining a game (something that likely warrants future consideration on the programming side at least concerning the lack of a visible ping on the Xbox side).  Being able to set a maximum average ping before being able to join a room is also worth considering.

What I didn't intend on was drawing out some nut who humps his headset to sleep at night, has an aggressive posting style toward others, and a worse sense of humor.  With tollerance for others and people skills like you display here it is no wonder you value your headset as a social outlet.  <

I most certainly do back you up here Valius..  The only way to try and get the message through to Tyotyo was to shoot him, lets just say it was a mercy killing..  The lag was so bad he would have been left behind and without his team mates to back him up he would be a sitting duck so shooting him and making sure it was a definate kill was the only way to ease his possible long agonising death from a fatel wound.. (damn, i'm taking this game too seriously, I even ducked and threw a coke can at a traffic warden yesterday whilst shouting "flashbang" in the hole)

No disrespect to you Tyotyo, but if one person brings a whole game to grinding halt almost, it really is not polite to stay .. !!!

You are always welcome to join, but if the lag is to ohigh, please respect the needs of other players and leave..

Nuff said.. smile.gif

gee, if the guy doesn't have a headset ...doesn't he still hear you guys that do?

if you are telling him his lag is bad ... hopefully he should understand.

Unless he speaks a different language.

If a team-mate comes up to me and shoots me ... is he telling me to get lost? smile.gif  because i suck at the game or because of bad lag or everyone else knows each other except for me.

LOL

p.s. either that or he is a double agent! smile.gif

How can I tell my lag is bad ... I can see the other people ...were can I see my lag ... maybe a Indicator in the Room can show the LAG of the person in Big print ... GREEn for excellent lag,  Orange for average and RED for BAD!

When you are in the Arena and see a list of people look at the small bar to the right of their name, the higher the bar, the better the connection..  The ping rate indicates the time taken in milliseconds for a packet of data to be returned from the user.. the lower the ping rate the quicker the connection between the two of you.. When a user with a high ping rate joins a game it drags everyone down to be playing at that level..

I do like the idea of a quick view colour code..

This time lag free, I'm glad he managed to get his S*IT together biggrin.gif

All are welcome in our games, just don't lag us out or we will shoot you!!!! tongue.gif

If you don't have a headset then make it your next purchase £20 is well worth it for the laugh you get, until you get 1 you should keep some line of communication open, for the people with their xbox & PC's in different rooms would it hurt you to get off your ass & go check the PC for any msg's you might have in the room chat once in a while.

Looking forward to seeing you all online for a game, chat & a laugh jester.gif

it was yet another good session last night, and i'm sure mr Tyotyo enjoyed it too, well, maybe not the part when Gerri (Trigger Happy Babe With Attitude) shot him anyway.. I think she just got a little carried away.. and she is still reminding me that she shot me.. damn, i'm looking forward to payback..

Just one question for a newbie here, what causes Lag?

I have ADSL 512 here in the UK and the other day I played Top Spin and it was slow as hell but then the next time I played against the same person it was fine. I had no other apps open on my PC so couldn't understand it.

Distance the packets have to travel, and that doesn't mean physical distance. I could live 10 houses down the street from you, but my ISP may have to route traffic to the other side of the world before it can come back to you, meaning a larger ping than you would expect.

What about the people where a headset would be useless to them.

Do you want to say to someone who is deaf  that they are unable to play in your game.

I do not think that we should discriminate against anybody.
