Post by: vermilion on January 14, 2006, 06:20:00 PM
I just started getting on XBL yesturday and everything was fine until I tried to l log on about an hour ago when I gott he message saying I had modded software. I never got on with my chip on, my drive as been locked for about a year now, never unlocked once. I'm using a X-3 chip. and what I'm wondering is, how did I get banned with my chip off?

I got banned yesterday as well, I always took the precautions of Cold Booting and not having my mods on. It was fine one hour then I come on a few later and BAM! Unable to connect to xbox live because your xbox *MAY* have been modified.....

It's Black Saturday, ala Black Sunday when DTV flipped the switch to make all the P3 cards useless.

I got banned yesterday too. Booted to the retail BIOS, chip was deactivated, took all the necessary "known" precautions. I'm thinking M$ changed something, maybe scanning HD model #'s. I wonder if anyone's been banned with a chip but still a stock HD?

i saw this thread and couldnt help myself
i have had live for about 2 months and have never once gone on with my chip enabled
and i deleted any mimesis content or hacked name
and im on live right now and im loving it so much

but i have noticed sometimes when i play a game (chip on) it will switch purple then red (off) so im thinkin that it may have switched on while you were playing then switched off

I also have Live-blocking BIOSes on my chip. That my chip is the cause of my banning is highly unlikely.

I still believe there is some form of hard drive scanning going on. If Avalaunch and other dashboards can get the serial number and other info from the HD firmware, so can the MS dashboard and hand it off to Live. It's even simpler than the Marriage Theory. If a system connects to Live, check the HD firmware and if the drive detected is not a retail model, ban the system.

I think i remember a post liek this a logn time ago about X-3 chips..
Not sure if it's true but here we go..
Since theres no physical switch on the x3 M$ can send signals to your LPC ports to turn the chip on.. when they see that its on ur banned..
I've been running x2.6 fine for a year now.. (stock HDD)

Anyone have anything else to add to this?  Are people with mod'd machines still getting banned, presuming of course they have taken precautions NOT to get banned?

this is usually due to voltage fluctuations in the xbox, and not due to any attempts to enable the chip

even if MS did enable the chip while the xbox is on i twouldnt get you banned, they only check the bios in memory, and simply turning the chip on whithout rebooting doesnt refresh your bios, so you will still have the retail bios loaded

yeah, just this morning (speaking for my roommate) he has an X3 that's it, stock hDD the only thing added is the chip, he's been waiting, for months, to get a New big HD to use with his chip, but just had the chip installed ready to go for when the time came. so what should he do now.  i read somewhere, about switching HDD's with mother boards and confusing M$ but maybe i confused myself with what i was reading at the time, i couldn't find it again. what is the solution, what do we do now?

I've he's been on Live already, his EEPROM is marries to the stock HD. If he wants to put in an upgrade HD, he should also get a new virgin EEPROM. Or, get one of those Xtender kits from divineo so he can switch to the stock HD for Live and switch to his upgrade HD for other stuff

i noticed alot of folks in this thread mention changing HDs, MS has been marrying HDs and EEPROMs, change HD without changing eeprom = ban

also, getting banned also bans your HD, so get banned, change eeprom only, and go back on with same HD = ban

also also, MS has been flagging gamertags when you get banned, get banned, GT is flagged, use flagged GT with non-stock HD = ban

this is not new, it has been going on for well over a year

Well, it was good while it lasted, got banned again.

I have a virgin EEPROM and a brand new HD. C: contained only stock files. Everything else was on F:. Was able to play on Live for 2 days, signed on tonite, banned immediately.

Seems the only way to play on Live with a modded Xbox is with a HD switch?

Looks like I'm sticking with Xlink.
