I managed to get this thing to work, and I figured I'd post it to help others.
Here for reference:
I've got the usb stick drive: (micro advantage quickidrive 64MB)

Finally got it to work by downloading the software:
QuickiDrive Tools Version 1.3 from http://www.microadvantage.net.
1. installed quickdrive tools
2. inserted the usb stick.
3. run the quickdrive tools, then select
"Public Area + Security Area (single drive)"
resized it for maximum Public Area
4. pulled the usb stick, then into xbox, and xbox formats it, and reads it. :rolleyes:

man - fanatstic work!! this works on my generic 128 usbdrive too :D. nothing ive ever tried before has worked :) and ive tried a LOT of things.

ok ive tested this on 3 different sticks that have never worked before (on xbox) all 128meg. the only one that didnt work was one with a card reader in the side. Cant tell you what the brands are cos they are like promo give aways with no branding. but ive fully tested em in three boxes by copying and save games to and from.
but this is a great find and prolly importantto softmodders/nix users. maybe you should post this in softmods thread man ;)

Glad this helped you out. I spent a couple hours trying different things b4 I got it working. There maybe different solutions, but I searched google and didn't find any.

I noticed that microadvantage.net is gone, or out of business. Here is another site to get this software.
