Title: Total Newbie Want To Play Against Mate Online

...but not with Xbox live.

Can someone tell me what is the best? and easiest to use please.

Basically for now I just want to play against a few mates, is this possible? ie to just have a seperate room for just us? I have just got Star Wars Battlefront which has drove me to get online and use it against mates.
