i have a 512k (4gig/month) broadband connection,
would playing online eat up that 4gig very quick?
BTW can halo players play with haloCE players?
-
1) try one night and see how much was transfered
2) no

well can you give me an idea?
obviously i can try it and find out but i'd like to have an idea beforehand in case i don't want to setup my switch and download/setup syslink programs...

Well it's not like you're pusshing Ploygons or something! I would figure that you'd
be safe with your 4GB Month Cap. If your that concerned about it why not find a Telco / Cable Operator that offers you unlimited traffic.
But these typs of Games tend to move fast (you'd never know it by playing on XLink though (I found Halo to be unplayable), and I have a 1MB / 196Kb/s DSL
Line unlimited bandwith. Unlike the 2MB and 3MB DSL Packages with the the same
4GB Traffic Cap.
I can't immagine that it would be more then 300Kb/s though same as a good quality Video Stream...
The only way to know for sure is to run a traffic volume moitoring program and
check the pull (or more likely push) of your Bandwith...

thanks, at 300Kb(kilobytes/sec) i'd be using a gig an hour
did you mean kilobits?
BTW most modem speeds are measured in bits, your 1mb/196k dsl would probably be
1megabit/196 kilobits
which = about 125 kilobytes/ 24.5 kilobytes per sec
do you get around 125Kb/s downloads?
anyone got more info?

If you used xmelee as an example (instead of xbconnect) you would get the following.
Halo - Host
2 xboxes 1 player per 26.4 kb/s (upstream)
3 xboxes 1 player per 64.8 kb/s
4 xboxes 1 player per 115 kb/s
4 xboxes 4 players per 331.2 kb/s (worst case situation)
4 Gig = 4 000 000 000 bytes
331.2 kb/s = 41.4k bytes/sec
(4 000 000 000 / 41400) = 26.83 hours of solid game play to exceed your upstream bandwidth cap when hosting a 16 player halo game.
Your bandwidth requirements are DRAMATICALY less if you just join games with xmelee. xbconnect requires an extra 25.2 Kb/s of upstream bandwidth as compared to xmelee. (and I suspect the other similar utilities out there)

thanks dude that's what i was after

kb/s = kilobits per second
kB/s = kilobytes per second
