Title: Halo 2 Coop Vertical Or Horizontal Screen Split?

I have the Halo 2 Collector's 2 Disc Edition and when I play my coop mode the screen is split horizontally like Halo

but my brother who has the regular Halo 2, has his coop mode screen split vertically

I was just talking to my friend who has the Collector's Edition and his screen is split vertically as well.  

Is there anyway of changing this setting?  Or are some Halo 2 copies different?  Just curious with this that's all

When widescreen is enabled in xbox settings its split vert
When 4:3 is enabled in xbox settings its split horizontal.

The CE and regular are the same disc but different case + bonus dvd.
