Title: Xbox Elite (phat) Fails To Maintain Power.
Post by: wilgo45 on May 19, 2013, 01:45:00 PM
Good chance there is a short to ground thru one on the heatsinks.

Gpu heat sink might be on so tight with screws and washers that the heat sink is bowed.  Then touching one of the ceramic caps.  Causing the short.

That is a 1st guess

Cheers for the quick resonse. I currently have all the heat sinks removed and the fault is still the same. I have slaved in a serviceable front circuit board, and no change there either. Have checked the MOSFATs and have the 3.3 and 1.8 where expected. I have also checked all the usb and other ports for bent pins etc.

This xbox is fast becoming the toughest one I have worked on yet!

I have tackled and beaten a 0031 before.  Has been a while - so alittle foggy.  Trying to make the memory snap.

There might be certain Mosfets that are failing.  Ones close to the Power Regs.

And there is a chance I reballed the Gpu to cure the 0031 error.  I am just uncertain.

If a Heat Gun has ever been taken to any of the primary chips - well, that could be the source.  Heat Gun killed a sector on a chip.  Just mentioning that   .... I don't know the history of your console.
