Title: 0022 Error Caused By Missing Resisitor?
Post by: wilgo45 on April 09, 2013, 05:14:00 PM
For R8A1 on a Jasper  .... I got a board reading of 10 K ohms.

I'll have to double check on its package size.

Can you do the install ?  If you can't  ... I could help you.

Alright, that makes sense. I've soldered in a 10K but still get the 0022 error. I'm assuming there's no special way to put in a resistor... I've scoured the board several times now looking for missing/damaged components or broken traces, but I didn't see anything obvious. It has to be something I did when installing the LED's though, because it worked fine before. I took them out (I did that before any repair attempts tongue.gif ) though, so they aren't the problem itself. It took longer and longer to boot until it eventually just didn't boot and gave the 0022 instead. The R8A1 resistor being loose, then coming off altogether, seems like a logical enough cause, but apparently is not. I'm not sure what else I can do.

Look for other missing or knocked components.  Maybe more missing around the power plug in.

0022 - sort of points toward the Cpu.  Test the fuse blocks around the Cpu chip.  Maybe you shorted one when you bridged the Resistor points.

And double check on the reading I gave you.  10 K ohm reading when attached to the board.  Its true reading off board might be 20 k ohm or 5 K ohm

I just tried both 20k and 5k, but still no luck. What fuse blocks around the CPU chip? Are they under the heatsink?

They look like resistors.  Slightly taller.  Just north of the Cpu chip.  There are a couple of them.  Even some on the underside of the board.  They are marked with FB on the board.

If your heat sink is on  ... you might not be able to see them

Alright, I'll test those. Do you know the rating?

They are a fuse.  Like a 0 ohm resistor.  Straight thru continuity.  Probably read 0.2 ohm if good.  Won't read if shorted.

Make sure to place your probes well.  It is a small area of contact

I think you should do a side by side comparison with another Jasper or image.  Maybe you are still missing a device.

Have you checked the underside around your power plug in?

You might try PMing RDC.  Give him the details - don't exclude.  He might have some great insight.
RDC will even know the value of resistor R8A1 - its true off board value

I pulled that resistor at R8A1

It is 10 K ohm - off board

Alright, I'll message him. All the fuses were good and I've put a 10k into the R8A1 spot. I don't have another board handy so I'll have to search around a bit for some good pictures. Thank you for all your help so far!

I have a couple of Jasper boards.  I think the big block styles.
Board stock # is X815842

If you have about some questionable device spots - I could tell you what I have.

Do me a favor if you would  .... what are the stock numbers on your Ram Chips?  These Jaspers are missing their Ram.  Looking to rebuild them.

The RAM chips say K4J10324QD. Could you upload some pictures of the component heavy areas of the board? That would be great.

This site uses other url's to post up pics.  I'm not signed up with any of those.

I'd have to personally send email with pics.  If that works for you ....

That's fine. I'll send you my email in a PM.
