Title: Repairing Original Controller
Post by: Gigabulloba on April 18, 2005, 11:20:00 PM
I tried to mod my original xbox controller to use an NES controller on my xbox, but I've messed it up and now my xbox controller does not work any more.  I tried soldering wires to points on the board, but i made a few booboos and took the original solder off the points.  There is no hole under the points no nothing.  I don't understand how the solder held in place there in the first place.  Now some of the buttons on my controller don't work.  How can I get solder back on these points to get it working again?

did you do that on your own or did you follow a tutorial?
can you post a picture of the broken solder points or traces?

i modded my controller with an old amiga-joystick-port.
to be honest:
first, i tried with a far too big soldering iron. so i messed up one or two traces too.
i got myself a new thinner soldering iron and tried again a few weeks ago. i cleaned the old soldering and managed to get everything to work. i was one lucky guy, i can tell!
it took me about three or four hours of soldering and desoldering, but finally everything worked.
i still have to take some pictures of all that (which i will post in the thread i started because i was so happy that it works) and when i do that, i will fix the definitely really very damn small soldering connections to the board with some glue or something, so that it will never go off.

you should find the broken traces/points and clean the endings of the breakings. then solder them together. (use wire if you need it or if it is easier.) i think, you will need a lot patience. if you think it should work, test the controller(!!!) before(!!!) you put everything back together. if it works, take pictures, fix everything to not go off ever, put it back together and have a lot of fun!
and,
if there isn't one already,
write a tutorial.

good luck  ;),
