Title: Xenon Temps.
Post by: II Poodle II on July 10, 2011, 04:49:00 AM
Hello, i finally jtagged my xenon to FreeBOOT 13416.
The temps

IDLE:
CPU 80*
GPU 60*

Gaming
CPU 75*
GPU 70*

Since then i have replaced the CPU paste, i think the temps have improved. also added 80mm fan on GPU

IDLE
CPU 73*
GPU 43*

Gaming
CPU 70*
GPU 45*

Just wondering if these are stable? If there alright to stick with. as i dont want the xbox RRODing

The general consensus is that you need to worry more about your GPU than CPU. So you shouldn't worry about the temps on your GPU as they're very good.

However, your CPU temps are abnormally high as compared to your GPU. Does your rebooter have the correct config data? Having the wrong data can really screw up temp readings.

Not entirely sure. The temps at idle at this very moment are

FSD

CPU: 76.5

XEXMENU

CPU: 75.6

Should i be stressing about the cpu temps being that high?

There is a 80mm fan on the gpu just to clear.

They are abnormally high. They're not too high for a CPU, but it's something I'd be concerned about. How did you build your rebooter image? The more specific you can be, the better I'll be able to help you.

Well first off i downloaded the XBReboot images for 8955 and injected my KV and config files. then flashed to my console. after that I decided to get the 13146 kernel so i got the JTAG TOOL by coolshrimp, then selected Driver options, original smc points kernel 13146 and xell i input my cpu key and selected my original nand image. then clicked write freeBOOT and once complete flashed to the 360 using FLASH360

Most of my Xenon's CPU run between 70-80, so it's not too high, but you might want to mod (separate) the fan ducts (lots of tuts on that around) and put a 50-60 mm fan on the front of the cpu blowing through it...

Then you should have all the correct data. Do you still have ample air blowing over the CPU heatsink? Or is there a bit of a vacuum there due to the GPU fan?

Well not quite sure as to what that mean't, but the case is open at the moment and the 80mm fan is sitting directly ontop of the GPU. i sat a 80mm fan on an angle infront of the cpu but the temps go down to about 65 roughly. ill check soon.

Well after a good mission or 2 on black ops

CPU - 69
GPU - 40

Arcade game for a couple of hours

CPU - 68
GPU - 38

What would be the best option to lower the CPU temps without really getting the xbox any louder.?

Agreed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)   Based on your temp readings with the fans installed, I'd say that's pretty adequate cooling for a Xenon.  Maybe a watercooling solution would give better results, but they cost quite a bit of $$$.

Alright thankyou very much guys.
Just a final couple of questions.

Would replacing the Paste with AS5 be worth it?
Also what temps would the gpu and cpu have to reach for me to start worrying?
