Very interesting.
Now i am a bit unsure of the steps. I am guessing that you connect this device first. Then start sending intro's in JF and then power the drive? I assume you then remove it and then read the drive?

I guess i better test it out and report back.

I am sure if you slip and hit the wrong spot then it will still be possible to brick the drives.

the mra method isn't unsafe.  doing something you have no clue how to do is unsafe.  for those of us who do know what we are doing, there is less that a 1% failure rate and our failures don't ruin the drive, u just dont get a mod.

People wanted a DIY method, and now that we have one, the "JF boys" are getting slated for it?

Aaaaanyway... Wonder if you can do this with a ca-42 cable?

The reason they were saying it was unsafe was because of using the clips on the Scorpion for power and GND. If you touch the wrong part by accident, you can potentially damage something. The Probe3 is going to have PWR and GND built into the cable as can be seen as an example here:

Ill be sticking with my Xtractor 2.3 and MRA's

but on a side note, does it bother anyone else that support for this was already in JF?

I mean, this "recently discovered" method of extracting keys from all liteon drives magically just, works with JF's existing key extraction.

Ya, no.
They (meaning the JF dev team) knew about this method for some time in order to code up the solution in JF 78

My guess is someone discovered this way back, but soon after the mra had been developed and kept it quiet to make more $$$ off mra devices.

But oh well, thats how capitalism works, just sucks to be on this end of it!

they say the "newest" and I wondered if that meant the version to be released with the XUSB crap

what i dont understand so far is that part:

* Homebrew – Easy / Cheap To Make

means that that every xbox360 is now like a fully hacked jtag ?
or are there some limitiations what stops homebrew ?
homebrew like xell or xellous or even all the emulators and freestyle dash.

it would be pretty cool if alle console are now able to run all the homebrew.
that will give homebrew development a good push
and we can hope for all that stuff what is currectly missing like a homebrew media player.

Mega

Homebrew was probably not the best choice of words, as that is commonly used to refer to software.

It's just a DIY probe of sorts, for allowing the key to be extracted from your DVD drive, without having to cut and repair traces. Nothing to do with JTAG's or running unsigned code on your box.

Saw that phat liteon key option for the first time in that video. Made me think I didn't have the latest version of JF. Wrong, I did. So I now wondered if something else is up. Watch the video again. That video uses JF version 0.1.79 yet 0.1.78 is the latest you can get on the website so apparently "latest Jungle Flasher "does  not necessarily imply 'latest released Jungle Flasher'.  So we wait for the newest version to release until we can do this. Wish we'd seen more from the Inquiry/Identify/Driver Serial tabs to compare... so see if they're more complete than the Lizard.

* Tested with X360USB PRO / VIA 6421 etc - Here's to hoping that stays true.

(DARKFiB3R pointed the version out kinda before I hit submit)

If you have an old xbox laying around, you can use it. The idea is for this to pretty much cost £0

If you are going to power it via the xbox (not recommended) you could take 3.3v and GND form the mem card slot. Shame it's not considered safe for xbox live, would have been a tidy mod putting a button type cap inside an old mem card.

Could a USB port on a PC be used for power? What cap would be needed in that case?

Or is that a really bad idea?

doesn´t this causes problems if we connect a 2,5V capacitor to 3,3V?
maybe we have to use a 5,5V or causes this a to high voltage on the board (should be 1,8V)?

It's worthless until the new JF is released .... Which shouldnt be too long.

This has nothing to do with x360usb.

I'm not at home, but you can try to power on the drive with the probe in, and send a command "Intro/DeviceID"...

probably it work!

You're right that it translates to Kiss My Ass but the language is Irish. Which is not Gaelic.

You're right that it translates to Kiss My Ass but the language is Irish. Which is not Gaelic.

Gaelic is an adjective that means "pertaining to the Gaels", including language and culture. As a noun, it may refer to the group of languages spoken by the Gaels, or to any one of the languages individually.

Gaelic languages

Goidelic languages or Gaelic languages, a linguistic group that is one of the two branches of the Celtic languages; they include:
        Irish language (Gaeilge)
        Manx language (Gaelg or Gailck)
Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig), sometimes called Erse in Scots and English

When referring to Irish Gaelic or Manx Gaelic, it is usually pronounced /ˈɡeɪlɪk/. In Scotland, "Gaelic" is usually pronounced /ˈɡɑːlɪk/ or /ˈɡælɪk/; [ˈɡalɪk] in Scots and Scottish English.

Thankyou.I went a Gaelic school so i think i would know. There are two types of Gaelic.Scottish and Irish.

Take the word "House" for example. In scottish Gaelic Its spelt "Taigh" but in irish Gaelic its spelt "Tigh" But DarkFiber hit it right on the nail.

Nice one, Oggy! smile.gif
I've read POGO_MO_THOIN.pdf and I have some questions...

"Please Note, the only ways to know 100% that a key is good, is to ensure your drive key was verified by JF or flash your firmware to a identical drive first and test it in the xbox itself" - it's from the manual.

But you have CDB to check if the key is good. So why you just not add this feature in JF too to check dumped key against STILL UNMODDED (not erased, with original firmware) drive?

Maybe it'll be good to add "Verify key" button into DVDKey 32 tab?... smile.gif

"Key has been tested and verified, thanks C4eva!" - that's what I'm talking about.

---

One more thing. Can we read full dump using this solution or only just key+inquiry+identify+serials=dummy? I've saw on pictures that JF says "No calibration data in source"...

Thanks!

key verification works by making sure other info in the firmware matches, not the key.  it more or less makes sure a dump matches the drive, no thtat the key is right.  it assumes that current methods get the right key, which they do.

oggy, how does this new capacitor key extraction work if u don't mind blowing my mind.  is this a hack or something that was built into the drives on purpose?

Huh? What about DVDKey 32 then? We probing R707 and getting only key+inquiry+identify+serial from PLDS DG-16D2S 74850C, but key verification works fine. So it looks like don't need full dump to verify key against the drive. By the way DosFlash (16bit version at least) have this feature!

The key is verified, after dump/before erase,

Thhat was just a c/p from the original tutorial, that oviously hadnt been removed when Key Verification was added to JF.

Also, It doesnt dump 3c000 data, its redundant information, anyway.

Key Verification works by verifying the KEY against the drive  - Not any other data.

OggyUK, but can you add Key Verification button anyway? It would be useful to check keys from my own database against flashed drive in service - I haven't got all keys in JF's database in registry and JF can't find it automatically.

I've make my own scheme - please check is everything is OK here.

(IMG:http://homie7.narod.ru/pogo_mo_thoin_-_scheme_by_homie7_-_v1.0.png)

Big place for capacitor, small place for LED.

(IMG:http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f320/RDCXBG/360DVDPowerConnectorToMolex.jpg)

Also I have another question. It is OK to use capacitor which is designed for 2.5v with 3.3v?

I was pissed when my probe broke.  Piece of shit connector and small wires came out of the connector and no way to fix it.  Maybe they could use some thicker gauge wire so this crap don't break off from the connector from twisting over time.  To bad I don't have it no more, think I threw it out when it broke.  I could of totally used it for this.  I guess Ill just build my own.

This shits funny Team Xecuter vs Maximus.

I support no side, as both sides of the fence seem shady to me.

I prefer MRA because of the calibration data, but this is a nice/simple solution if you don't have the key (e.g. flashed by someone else) and the drive is flashed with the LT firmware and you want to 'update' to the LT+

I recall reading that c4eva had determined this area of the firmware is never even accessed. Not even sure calibration data is the correct term for it because I have seen no evidence that anyone has used this to adjust or calibrate anything. If i am wrong someone please link me to something that says otherwise.

Iv never done a full dump on any drive .im probably just as safe as anyone else doing the mra method
If ms want to ban us they will no calibration data no earth will help that

I just use the default calibration data .if ms ban me I lose out on 20 gbp which is all my 360 cost me(e74 still had warranty ,unopened sent back to ms smile.gif  had it been opened I would of fixed)

Anyways back on topic nice work keep it up and so on ,nice to see I dont have to go around cutting stuff which I was never in love with doing thats why iv never done a full dump ..

1uF is too small. I have no idea about america but i went into a small electronic shop and asked for something close to 2,5v 1F and got a 1,8v 3,5F and a 5,5v 0.68F and the latter one did the job for me.

If you read the tutorials you'll see there's really no need to create multiple "tutorials" for each spear... it's very straightforward.  The spear part of each "Spear" is really all you need.  Get yourself a 1F 2.5v cap and solder it according to the original guide.  If you're referring to the "Scorpion," then you don't need to do any of that, you can use it as is, or wire the 3.3V and GND leads that you'd normally connect to the IC to the 3.3V and GND of the dvd power cable.

Yes, see my pic above, just take the GND from the connector and put a switch in the 3.3v line (pin 6 on the connector), you don't need a cap.

maybe the preshure of GND-pin is too low.
or you havent the right timing.
or something

3.3V switch is needet if u dont wanna use a capacitor

@suso:
you could cut/solder a switch onto the drive. (if its just one u wanna flash)

Hey guys I'm having a problem with the whole setup of this. I've read over pretty much everything in both the official guide to making these and the posts here and I just cannot get it. I feel like I have done everything correctly but I always get the Phatkey failed error. I am using the CK3 Lite with its probe. Not using the serial cable.

I tried this setup. Cut the Red wire as indicated. Knocked off all surface mount resistors and diodes and then bridge the one place to continue the 3.3v line. The red stuff on the probe is just red liquid insulation tape. Anyways, I tried this setup and I cannot get it to succeed.
IPB Image

Then I saw that the ground wire, aka the black wire does not really attach to anything so mounted a wire like this indicated by the red line. This caused my CK3 Lite to turn off every time I activated the switch, since I basically created a ground fault.
IPB Image

So I removed that new soldered wire and tried a few more times with the first setup. Still did not help. I tried pigphat's directions, I did different timings for the 5 seconds, I feel like I tried it all. Anyone know whats the problem here?

When i get to the "wait for 5 seconds part" shutting off the drive doesn't work for me. What I do is remove the pin, hit yes, switch the 3.3v switch OFF for 5 seconds then ON.

Press Phat Key :yes
Spear to MPX01
Very Quikly OFF/ON The Drive!!
Turn 5sec off and on press okay

With the Vampire there you can do it the same way!

Here's mine with a press-to-break switch next to the probe...neatest solution I could come up with.

IPB Image

An easier method I found on another forum is this, it just avoids the pull-out-plug-push-it-back-in power recycle for the non CK3 users.

1) Drive on
2) Click Phat key, click yes
3) Cut 3.3v line (press button), probe MPX01, join 3.3v line (release button)
4) When extraction is complete, instead of removing probe and recycling power just remove probe and cut 3.3v line for a couple of seconds, i.e. I just hold the button down for a couple of secs.
5) Click OK.

EDIT - Just seen that Serious_Sam has this method as well a couple of posts above...can't hurt having it twice though IMO.

You are also right - TX never released anything original. Hey guys thanks for the help but I thought that I only needed to fix this up and all would be well but this is unfortunately not the case. I still cannot get phatkey from drives. I fixed my error and it still does not work. I tried to alternate the 5 seconds turn off and I tried 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 3 seconds, instantly and nothing worked. So I then tried the same with just cutting the 3.3v line off with the switch and still I did not get anything. Always failed. Im starting to think that I should just do the MRA method like I have  been doing to all my drives. Here is my photos:

IPB Image

The length of those cable just are a rough trim of them. I did not really care how long they were since before I switched to the blue 24 awg wire I tried 30 awg and I had it at perfect length. So once it did not work with 30awg I thought maybe 30 awg cannot carry 3.3v so I tried 24awg and it still does not work...

Specifically what I am trying to find out with the Maximus 360 xtractor pro and spear, do I attach the spear as normal and use it or do I need to just send the ground to it?

Redwhitedream please elaborate or anyone else who has tried it.

Thanks

As far as building your own, are there any specific requirements for the switch?

Would this work:
http://www.radioshac...591#tabsetBasic

I think it'd be nice to have the LED indicator to tell you when it's on or off and a push button might be easier to do when holding a probe rather than having to slide or toggle a switch.

I'm assuming it has to be an AC switch but are there voltage requirements? I assume most switches should easily handle 3.3v. Am I right?

Sorry for the noob questions but I like to clarify things before I buy parts and start assembly.

Thanks,

XBD

What is the method exact with a spear and Xtractor?

The pics aren't very clear so it's hard to tell. If it is could you tell me what you did? (what pins you wired, etc.) Also is it a version 1 or version 2.

The switch you sent me a link for is a DC switch. Don't I need an AC switch?

Do you power the drive with that dongle? It's kind of hard to tell from the photo.

If so you should have the cable that connects to the 360 drive coming out of it. You can get the 3.3v and ground from that cable. I believe earlier in this thread they show which wires on that cable are the proper ones. If not check the PMT pdf file.

Cut the 3.3v wire and put your switch there. Strip part of the ground wire and connect a wire to it and run it to a pin or whatever you decide to use as your probe.

That's my understanding of it. If I'm wrong someone please correct me and help him out.

I have a maximus 360 xtractor pro. Instead of cutting and soldering on it I think I'll just put my switch in the cable that's going to the drive. Then pull my ground off the ground wire and run it to my spear.

Good luck!

Yes. it's direct to the drive power socket without any power cable. it's different than a pro version.

hmm
I have got a xtractor pro and Spear
is there anyway to mod these two so I can use them for other drives? (say slim for the future?)

So far all existing methods seem to permanenty mod the xtractor by adding a voltage directly to the drive pin. I wonder if I plug it straight into another non-lite-on dvd-drive is it going to break/fry it?

for non-liteon, the switch on pin 6 must be ON
the 3.3 V is needed and normally always there on PIN6
for Liteon it must be switched off to read the key

I recommend making mods to the cable only on your xtractor. Especially if you're not good at cutting traces/soldering. Look at the diagram that was posted on page 13.  Connect your switch for the 3.3v to the correct wire. Then make you a probe using a pin by connecting to the ground wire. If you want to use your spear then clip it to the spear instead of soldering it. That way your xtractor is still intact and no risk of damaging it.

Plus if you mess up the drive cable you can always buy another one fairly cheap.

Just curious.

I made mine last night.  No need to ruin any probe device.  make your own.

Supplies needed:
1.  Switch
2.  XBOX 360 DVD power cable
3.  Safety Pin or sewing needle or pogo pin if you have any.
4.  20-24 Gauge wire(you can use any you want, but I wanted something a little thicker since its going to move around more.  I find 28-30 gauge wire to weak and breaks easy)
5.  Electrical tape.
6.  Shrink tubing

Cost $5ish

Tools needed:
1.  Wire stripper
2.  Wire snips
3.  Solder iron and solder
4.  Hot Glue gun

Bought this at Radio Shack

http://www.radioshac...oductId=2062544

IPB Image

notice the notches on top of your DVD power connector and the picture above.

Figure out which wire is for pin 6 by looking at the picture above.

I cut it at half length.

Then soldered the wires to the legs on the switch for pin 6 which is 3.3v

Then figure out the wire for pin 5.

At about the center I took my wire stripper and stripped the wire a little bit.

Then I took a piece of 22 gauge wire about 8-10 inches long and wrapped it around the wire I exposed with my stripper.

Then I soldered the wire to the exposed area for maximum durability.

Then I had a large safety pin.  I cut it, but I held the side with the sharp pin with a pair of pliers so it wouldn't fly off when I cut it and so I didn't have it fly up in my eye or something.

Then I soldered the the pin to the 22 gauge cable.  Covered with a few heat shrink tubes and shrunk them down.

Then I took hot glue and covered my exposed solder points, taped a bunch of stuff together in the center of the wires, basically i just taped the wires all together in the center and made sure to cover any area I soldered to with hot glue and tape first before taping the whole area.  Then when I was done, I made a big ball of hot glue and taped it next to my switch on the cable so I can poke into it with the needle so it has a safe place to be when in storage so its not just hanging out.

Make sure to test your PMT before taping everything together.

1. CK3 Main Power ON, 3.3v Switch ON
2. Press PhatKey, then Yes
3. 3.3v Switch OFF, connect GND wire to MPX01, 3.3v Switch ON
4. After "Extract Complete" disconnect GND from MPX01, CK3 main Power OFF. Wait 5 seconds.
5. CK3 Main Power ON, press OK.
6. Done!

can you make a picture of your tutorial ???
thanks

I didn't take any pictures when i was doing it.

Get the switch I linked to at radioshack.  It only has 2 prongs at the bottom of it.
Its really easy.  Look at the picture that shows the power connectors and notice how the notches on top the connector are.

Now find the wire for pin 6.

Follow that wire and cut it in the center.  Use wire stripper to strip the 2 ends of the wire.  Put the switch in between where you made your cut by soldering the wires to the 2 prongs at each end of the wire you cut.

Then only strip the wire for pin 5 around the middle of the cable.  Get a longer piece of wire and solder that to the exposed stripped area.  I wrapped mine around the wire a few times, then soldered.  At the end of that wire solder your needle or cut off safety pin etc.  Cover that with something to prevent you from touching the needle and leave the end exposed. I used shrink tubing to cover it.

Just thought id throw my quick capacitor-less homejob in here, actually wasnt really quick but this is the first time i made somethin like this i normally just buy the hardware.
Anyway here she is

http://i584.photobuc...ey/DSC00053.jpg

http://i584.photobuc...ey/DSC00052.jpg

All i used is some spare plugs & wires i had left over from some pc fans i had lying round an x360 J1D1 dvd cable and a needle and of course powered with my Maximus Xtractor.

I just soldered the needle onto the end of the wire pushed it back through the plug heat shrinked it soldered it onto the GND then i put 2 fan plugs as the switch (done at 3am so used what i had) am goin to put a proper switch on when the stores open, and thats pretty much it.

Works perfectly and a hell of alot faster than MRA

1. Seeing as im using VIA still i hooked all my sata & power up.
2. In JF my drive properties were already showing so i hit PhatKey
3. Since i am powering with xtractor i left power on my xtractor unplugged my plugs/switch then i probed MPX01 and while holding the probe i plugged the plugs back in (bit of a mission with one hand) and left the probe on
4. Got my 0x52 status then lifted my probe off (got a bit of a spark from hitting another point on the way off lol)
5. Put my probe down unplugged my plugs waited 5 seconds, plugged back in & hit OK, got the prompt, saved my dummy files.
6. Then proceeded with normal flashing as per previous JF.

Worked like a charm, Im loving seeing all these new ideas coming out & i know people have probably posted this a thousand times but im reasonably proud of my work and hopefully a newbie out there will try my guide.
