Ok, bought a broken RROD console for hobby working on. Started out 0020 -3 RROD. Did some clean up, a reflow of the GPU and straightened out a bent USB prong.
Ran for 10 minutes then became a 0001. Another slight reflow. Replaced three Mosfets with brand new ones.
Retried. No fans got a 0031. Checked over the recently installed Mosfets; found one with a foot not totally soldered. Corrected that.
Fresh thermal compound. Plugged in - UP and running !!! YA !!
For only about 45 minutes. System went back to a 3RROD - 0001.
Other notes: Power suppy is good. 5 volts at standby. 3.3 v and 1.8 v at the regulators. I believe this is a Falcon motherboard. Two of the Mosfets I replaced are ones pointed as being responsible for driving the fans. I think the power management chip is fine - but not 100% certain of that.
Suggestions please.
