Title: Replacing Samsung Drive Help!
Post by: alexw1990 on March 20, 2010, 04:08:00 AM
Hi

I'm completely new to this as my xbox is now 4 years old and not had a problem till now lol!

DVD drive will not open as some fool ripped the drive open with the xbox turned off!

Ignorant to the fact it's not quite as simple as replacing a PC drive i went out and bought a new BENQ drive.  I have the xbox open eay enough and the old drive is out.  Where do i go from here?  I know i need the key but how do i get it etc.

Old Drive is ...

Toshiba Samsung TS-H943
Part No: X800473-019
F/W: ms28

I work with pc's all day so i know a bit in terms of usage etc and repairs but new to consoles!

Thanks

Hey.  Since someone pulled the DVD tray open kind of forcefully.  The small belt is either broken or teeth off the gears are broken.

If you had a Samsung -  I don't know why you bought a Benq.  There's more work in using another make of DVD drive.

If you had just bought a brand new Samsung (same model) either m25 or m28.  You could have just swapped logic cards.  Old card into new drive.  New drive into 360.  Done it half a dozen times at least.

Very easy fix that way.  And a new drive just purrs.

With trying to install the Benq; ya, you'll have to interface and extract the drive key.  Too much work in my opinion.

If you have kernel/dash v.8955 you can swap to any drive without spoofing it.
