Title: How To Solder Wires To Xbox 360 Motherboard?
Post by: icuithink on January 02, 2010, 04:19:00 PM

I am trying to solder the wires to my Xbox 360 motherboard so I can read the NAND - however, the solder will not stick to the solder pads on the motherboard, and some solder pads seem empty/hollowed out. What do I need to do? Thanks.

Flux it

Flux + some good old cancerous (in the state of california) LnPb solder.

That RoHS compliant shit sucks.

I'm using normal lead solder but no flux. I will try some using some flux, thanks!

Clean the areas that need to be soldered. Solder will not stick if it's dirty.

when you guys soldered yours, did you stick the wires though the holes, or just left them on the surface.

basically, could you see the wire sticking out on the bottom of the board, or did you leave it on top.

i've soldered 3 times already, and each one has failed.  my soldering appeared o.k., it wasn't the cleanest, but there was no runoff, and everything matched. i even tried 2 comps, but nandpro couldn't detect a flash contoller

im relatively new to soldering on PCB's, and i was just looking for some advice.

put solder on the points first. make sure to heat the points so the solder will stick

then reheat the solder and stick the wire in. thats the easiest way for me to do it  jester.gif

if you have a temperature controlled station i would suggest 500 degrees

Make sure the cable is less than ~15 inches and that all the wires are approximately the same length.

That rohs "shit" works fine if you can solder to even a basic high-school level.

If someone can't solder with it, then it's time for them to practice some more.

For the small little holes, i just used the fine tipped soldering iron i have and i just stuck the point in the hole and fed the rosin core solder from the spool until i had a small little bump of solder on the copper pads, with the end result looking like this: IPB Image
Please excuse the bad quality, these were taken on my alias 2 camera phone.

thanks for the replys

i'm thinking that my soldering was o.k, but i have two more questions

1)Did you guys use a spliced printer cable, or made the wire yourselves?
2) What chipsets do your computers have? I tried on a VIA based Intel Celeron Comp, but couldn't detect a flash contoller.
