Title: Rrod Error Code 0001

This issue has been discussed numerous times in the forum. Please use the search next time.

But till you do that here are possible causes:

1. Shorting mainboard on the case. take the mainboard off the case and try to turn it on.
2. Capacitors are leaking
3. Capacitors are missing
4. MOSFET is burned (especially the one under the board close to the power socket)

take the board out of the case, plug in the fans and "ring of light" board and try that, blast the power plug (both cable and the socket on the MB) with some canned air to make sure there's no junk stuck in there.

No that didn't work. Any more suggestions? Thanks guys for the suggestions the more there are the more hope i feel for bringing this bad boy back to life.  biggrin.gif

I have 5 consoles with 0001 and it is a mystery to me how to fix them. Does anyone know what else to look for? All 5 consoles have the same symptoms: fans dont turn on at all, and there is a 12v to ground short.

I have tried:
-washing down mobo with 90% alcohol.
-different power supplies
-replacing mosfets

is it possible that the short is under the gpu? Again, I'm really desperate to figure this one out cause I suspect that all 5 consoles have the same issue and hopefully the same solution. Also I got 0001 after trying the hybrid fix every time. However the cpu and gpu look fine physically. And even then I dont get why there is a 12v to ground short if the chip was the problem

i guess what would be most helpful is what exactly could be the reason for the short? I have checked for particles, but that didn't do anything. Can a faulty component result in a short? Or is it only bridged/grounded connections?

just wanted to add that i tried reflowing the cpu and it didn't do any good. Please does anyone know how i can track down this short?

Same problem..

Check the resistance on the legs of all the mosfets on top. I found one that is shorted, and replaced it, but it still it shorted there from the back pin as well.. can't figure out what component it shot.

Sorry but I'm not familiar with the which fix is the Hybrid fix? If you put too much pressure on any chip while the solder is liquid you can risk shorting pins together, or if the board/chip gets bumped.

the hybrid fix is basically the xclamp fix using metal plates under the chips and a foam bad and then putting shims on top of the chips to equalize the pressure. It does not require any heating so no the solder balls were not liquidized or soft
