I am hoping heat is no longer an issue enough with the new Jasper's that smaller less efficient heat sinks is all the is needed.
Its a no-win situation (other than from a cost cutting perspective).
I've speculated for a while now that the GPU heat pipe has attributed to increased E74. The Falcon models introduced the heatpipe and E74 seemed to become more common than RROD with that revision.
If that theory holds any water, then we will see the earlier Jaspers more afflicted by E74 and the later ones suffering more RROD.
MS must have a massive stockpile of old GPU heatsinks they can use from all the Xenon/Zephyrs refurbs. By the time they deplete them all, they might be onto Valhalla production.

Well if any one has felt the gpu heatsinks temp while gaming you will notice its really cool, so a smaller heatsink would be fine. If anything it will help due to less weight on the corner.
thats a problem I noticed with the falcon is that the extra sink caused there to be more weight on one side and caused a rrod some time.
I agree. There is very little heat produced by these chips. I don't see the lack of the extra GPU heatsink to be a big issue.

the heatsinks there are not new! theyve been around for over a year & ive had a couple of elites come to me with rrod problems with them heatsinks
Of course they aren't new, but this configuration is new for Jasper chipset since previous Jaspers had the gpu heatpipe. MS took it out to help get the Elites down to $299, and hopefully because the Jaspers didn't run hot enough to need it. I have two new elites, one with the heatpipe and one without. I'm keeping the one with it to be on the safe side, even if there isn't a big temp difference. Also note that all the ones I've seen have the black Nidec fans in them.

No way do the gpu heatpipes weigh enogh to do any damage. They are pretty much supported by the copper and the actual mount, and that weight isn't directly on the corner.
The difference in pressures might only be slight and barely measureable, but that doesn't exclude them from impacting the outcome. Lets not forget we are talking about brittle solderballs a little bigger than of a grain of sand that are constantly expanding and contracting. You're underestimating how easy it is to upset them.
Anyone who has fixed errors by replacing the x-clamps with bolts will know how over tightening one corner can result in a different error occuring.

also i'm not sure what you guys mean by the gpu heatsink doesn't get too hot while playing ? lol.
my jasper gpu heatpipe/heatsink gets near scalding hot (bascially same as my old falcon did) after only like 15-20 mins of the 360 being on.
As does mine. I'd be worried if it didn't, cause that would indicate that there is so much thermal goop on the chip that heat transference isn't optimal.
