Title: Broken Right Bumper
Post by: james513 on May 13, 2009, 04:23:00 PM
My friend has recently broken his right bumper due to acting like a 5 year old. I opend it up removed the whole right trigger assembl. I noticed that one of the solder connections had been broken.I proceeded to try and fix the connection, but when I tryed the solder it the solder didn't draw into the board makeing the typical little peak shape. Instead it just went up the wire only going onto the tip. So I really can't tell if the button is broken because I don't believe I'm getting a god connection. If anyone has any suggestions it would be great.

This is whats termed a cold solder joint, either your iron is not hot enough, you did not get BOTH sides of the joint sufficiently hot enough or your solder is crap.  Try to redo.

My iron is hot enough, even starting to burn the board a little. It seems as if theres no copper on the board to make the connection, I dont even really see any. I took the button off completly and ran my iron over the connections and nun of the solder came off my iron onto the board. I'm using rosin-core solder.

Most likely when your buddy broke the solder connection for the button that triggers the RB, he also took the pad on the board with it, which is why you cant solder to the board now. You can try following the trace and finding a seperate via to solder to or ask RDC.

My friend did break the connections. I followed the trace and connected a wire off the connection on the topside of the board and ran it to the button and ran another wire to the ground. If anyone needs help with this I can go into more detail
