Great find. I have been having the exact same problem and no one has a good answer on what causes it or how to fix it. Have you found a fix yet? Did you heatgun just the south bridge? When I get home tonight I am going to try this. I will post my results here.

Is the southbridge where it is next to the center screwing part?

No. It's the little chip with the silver circle that says Xbox 360 in it.

AWWWWWWWW! ARE YOU SERIUS!
I thought it was something else!!! LOL.

My 360 gets 0031 all the time haha.
Well its like this. If i turn on the 360 and immediately play a game, it will rrod as soon as the game menu shows up. But if i wait a little while with the fans off, about 30 secs, and let the 360 get a little warm, then i can play games for as long as i like. But i can't turn it on with the fans on too, Idk why, it just will rrod if the heatsinks are cold, I'll check out the SB chip soon though.

There are a few causes for this error, a more up-to-date listing for this error is located here: http://xbox-experts....code.php?s=0031. Appears it could also be a bad RAM chip, but in your case it is the southbridge, I would say to reflow it again and if that dont work but has the same results, then do the mod where you put a peice of metal over the southbridge and bolt it down to fix it (not proper but probley would work).
