* Cygnos 360 about to hit the road!
Sometimes things take longer than you inteded but now we are almost ready to ship. We had to change our manufacturer which cost us time but now everything seems good!

-Tutorial on Downgrading an xbox 360
-Cygnos360 NAND Tool v0.9

* What is Cygnos360?
Cygnos360 is a Modchip that allows you to have more than one kernel version on your xbox 360. Currently users can only have either a vulnerable kernel version (4532 or 4548) OR the current kernel version that is neccessary to use xbox live and play the newest games. Cygnos360 enables you to conveniently switch between your "live kernel" and your "homebrew kernel". You can also use Cygnos360 to switch between PAL and NTSC kernels.
NOTE: Cygnos360 does not contain any kernel image! It is shipped empty! Cygnos360 does NOT enable "backups" it is NOT for the DVD drive. You need to have an infectus programmer or another programmer to flash the Cygnos360.

Please note that some of the possible uses of Cygnos 360 require you to know your Xbox 360 CPU key. At the moment, this key can only be extracted by booting a vulnerable kernel, such as version 4532 or 4548. If your current kernel version is newer than 4548, you will have to downgrade, which is up to date only possible with non HDMI Xbox 360 models (as far as we know production dates earlier than July 2007 are safe)
A kernel version older than 4532 does not pose a problem, since it can be upgraded to either version 4532 or 4548. Downgrading the Xbox 360 as well as programming Cygnos 360 assumes the temporary installation of an Infectus 1 or 2 mod-chip.

May have a LONG wait there.

Also this will be of no use to anyone with an HDMI 360.

It would be nice to change region then change back

I agree, using it simply to easily switch regions would be worth it to some people.

so what purpose does this so-called "modchip" serve, aside from allowing you to play games from another region?

does it allow for booting backup copies? or is that still dependant on flashing the drive?

does it allow for the running of homebrew code? like xbox media center, for example

does this chip basically just allow you to switch regions?

this doesn't seem like much "modchip", especially considering its limited to 360's without HDMI.

It would allow you to have a 360 that can boot linux and still play games...

That's some seriously niche hardware.  I imagine it could be difficult to find the right kernel if you didn't already have one.  And too bad it's was the RROD generation.

Only for now. Likely, a new hack would need to be discovered to give us a real homebrew hack, and this would still allow for the kernel swapping, if one is ever discovered.

But yes, as of now, everything's still the same sad.gif

I might buy this just incase you can actually use it for something usefull in the future.

So you'll still need an Infectus?

I'd rather see an all-in-one solution.

so we buy this chip so we can do almost the same thing as the chip we have to use it with..........

Any homebrew coders out there even working on the code for homebrew on the 360.... much less the time to use all 3 processors........
Nope.

Its gonna be a long while before we start seeing homebrew games and apps on the 360........
And by that time this may not work, the dvd drive hacks may not work and there could be some weird memory card save hack out by then just like the old xbox.  It can happen.  All it takes is a useable exploit.  give it another year..... something w ill happen.  Just because the old xbox was hacked in a week doesnt mean it has to be that quick for a major solution this time around.

Forgive me but running Linux on a 360 is probable not that compelling a reason for most people at this time.   I know it gives the Penguin crowd an little ego boost but then what?

i see no point in this modchip being you aruldy need a hacked 360 to work and theirs not many of those still alive. and a flashed dvd drive. call me when you make a real chip.

Some people with exploitable boxes want to be able to play games. Now they can.

People with exploitable boxes will be able to change back to their exploitable kernel any time they want to try something; now they can simply 'switch', instead of having to choose.

Personally I think this is pointless.

For a normal person installing an infectus 2 and using the timing attack to downgrade the kernal and then to obtain your CPU key is going to be too difficult.

I don't see how it is going to be useful to anyone.  The idea is good but I think we need a combined solution with the features of both the infectus 2 and timing attack PCB and this device and it needs to be simple to install.

even at that, the timing attack is only possible on a handful of systems, and those systems are the ones prone to failure. the number of vulnerable machines at this point is relatively small.

My launch console is still going strong. It RRoD on me over a year ago, but my x-clamp fix and fan port divider have kept it running great ever since. It's seen more hours of play after the x-clamp fix than before.

Wow, the Dreamcast and then the Xbox really spoiled most of the scene members didn't it?  The xbox was probabley the last machine that will offer a true plethora of hombrew functionality - most people don't realize just how fortunate it was to have the xbox so exploitable.  There really wasn't half as much hombrew available for either the Gamecube or the PS2 because its resources weren't as accessible - each and every console manufacturer learned from the mistakes that Sega and MS made with their consoles and implemented protections against those - they won't make the same mistakes again, and consequently, we will probabley never have that level of freedom with another console - so for the people complaining about "REAL" modchips, use a PC if you want "REAL" homebrew...   sleeping.gif  wink.gif
