Title: Blinking Green Light, No Error, Drive Won't Open
Post by: 1ic1 on September 15, 2008, 05:32:00 PM
Check The Sata And Power Cables On The Back On The Dvd Drive Are Connected Properly (Take It Out And Put It Back In.)

If That Doesn't Fix It , Check If All The Ribbon Cables On The Inside of The Drive A Properly Connected To Your Key.

If That Avails Your Key Must Be Fried Or Not Have All Solder Connections Soldered.

Good luck!!!

I don't think you read this correctly.  The problem persists without the cables being connected (with the drive completely removed.  Also, there is no key or anything soldered.  It is unmodded.

Perhaps you plugged the power cable in the wrong way, which can/will kill your drive or the DVD-ROM's power source on the motherboard.

LOL, this is kind of amusing  biggrin.gif

If a drive is not powered it can NOT eject.
And if it is NOT powered the green light in the middle WILL blink, this is just normal!
If the thing is not connected the drive reports the same status as when it is ejecting so the 360 recognizes it like that...

Connect the power cable to your mainboard and your DVD-drive and the blinking should stop and the drive should also eject(and blink then of course wink.gif)...
If you are smart you do also hook up the SATA cable to the mainboard and DVD-drive to avoid any "reading" errors tongue.gif

Easy as that, double and triple-check this stuff and if it should then still not work post another reply wink.gif

I appreciate your input here as always Wilhelm, but I am not retarded.  Nobody seems to be reading the original post throughly.  The cables were plugged in correctly, and the issue started with the drive in the console and connected.  Then I removed the drive and got the exact same symptoms.  I am not so incompetent that I would actually think that the drive would eject witout power.  Do you really think that I am so tupid that I think the drive is wireless, and can function from the workbench?

If anyone reads the original post thoroughly and has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.  This problem happens with everything connected properly, and without the drive being connected at all.  When I turn the 360 on everything boots up as normal, and then the middle light keeps blinking.  If I push the eject button nothing happens.  I am wondering if the connectors on the mobo maybe got bridged/desoldered during the heatgunning.  This console has never had this issue before.  It started with the typical 0020 RRoD, then I fixed it and a week later it was showing signs of a problem between the Ana chip and GPU (green pixelation, then no video).  This was my attempt to fix that, and the unit appears to be working fine with the exception of this current issue.  Any knowledgable help is appreciated.

I didnt read your whole post, only skimmed through and saw this "I also took the drive out completely and I still get the same symptoms" thats why I took the other comments seriously wink.gif

Anyway you seem to know what you are doing if you do it for customers, you should at least tongue.gif
Guess you will have some spare 360s then, go put the drive in there and check if it works or gives the same symptoms....

If it does the drive is fucked if not it will be the 360 or one of the cables.
Since you have heatgunned it it might be the Southbridge so get a voltage checker and make sure that the power connector is powered.
If it is not it is definitely the Southbridge, then you will have to reflow it with the heatgun as well

Wilhelm to the rescue!  Thanks again as always man.  Your methods have done great things for me and my customers, and kudos on your new site.  When I get home I will try the drive in another unit as well as different cables.  The cables look fine visually, but that doesnt always mean anything.  I didn't have much time last night to mess with it, but I will do some more testing on it and report the results.

Thanks again Wilhelm for all your dedication to the scene.  Last night I went home (99% positive that it wasn't the cables or the drive) and reflowed the board again, focusing on the southbridge/gpu/ana area.  Re-applied thermal paste and etc and seems to be working so far.

Thanks again

Oh! Same problem here with some box that was fixed a while ago.
I fixed the RRoD error and it worked fine for a while.
But now it has the exact same problem as yours. It has a samsung MS28 drive on it and the weird thing is that the laser wont turn on either. Now the thing is I opened the drive and I noticed that the board inside it smelled like ape $h*t. like it has some electronics smell... .  blink.gif
I'm considering this drive completely dead. Couldn't do anything to get it back to work.

I have the same problem with my 360. The drive will not open or close and the little green light blinks but not always. sometimes it is just solid like normal. But I have found out if I manually open the drive and put a disc in the drive and then power on the 360 the drive will close read the disc and play the game until i either shut down the 360 or push the eject button. then I am back to square one. This is the closet I have gotten to finding a answer to this problem. If any one has any suggestions that would be great.
