Title: 360 Overheating Help?
Post by: 1ic1 on August 04, 2008, 06:01:00 PM
i have a 360 made in december last year. its a falcon. when i turn it on it runs normal but when i put the dvd drive is in place after a few mins. of gameplay it overheats or the fans get loud until it overheats. when i take off the dvd drive it just stays normal and doesnt overheat.

so wats the problem? i have tryed to put new thermal paste on it and it still does it.

or i can be that i put too much thermalpaste on it.

i can be that i put a diffrent drive from the orginal maybe?

any help will be appreciated =D

wait so you've put in new thermal paste on the GPU and CPU? ??

and you've also swapped out the DVD drive?

yes and well i couldnt find the original bottom case of the orignal dvd drive so i put  on one from a diffrent drive.

There you have found the solution...
Always clean the die dont do stuff like that.
The layer of thermal compound must be applied to a completely clean die and must be as thin as possible otherwise it acts like an isolator...

there you got  the solution for your problem...
when you insert the dvd drive and screw it in  it flexes the mainboard and the x-calmp doesnt offer enough pressure anymore

LOL
Are you joking?
You are not even supposed to turn it on in this condition.
Let this thing dry completely before you do anything else...
