Title: X-clamp Mod Twice?

About a year ago my box died 3 lights and checkerboard. i did the mod and it worked flawlessly for a year then last night my box started freezing but no lights. I pulled the board out and the cpu and gpu have no compound on them is it possible that is my problem? doing the mod again will correct this? or is it finally time to give up on this box. I havent herd of people having to do the mod more than once

You should apply thermal compound otherwise it can conduct the heat properly.
Just adjust the tightness of the screws this should fix it.

just remember to apply the thermal paste correctly - get some arctic sivler 5 and apply it per their specs for a cpu w/ an exposed core - http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruc...ecore_expsd.pdf

i did mine twice... both time used Arctic Silver 5 (AS5). first mod lasted just under 3 months. 2nd time reapplied AS5, tweaked the screws, and worked to-date (about 6 months)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i did the same thing again and it worked fine for about an hour and now its back to the same thing if i do the mod every time it will work but then go off again. Now when it boots i dont even get picture just goes right to lights. any ideas on what else i can do

sounds to me like you need to do the heatgun fix, (once the solder joints have been kinda re-flowed you should get a lot longer than an hour out of it)  concentrate on the gpu and ana chip, there is a good tut on here about doing the heatgunning properly

also what is the secondary code?

i have never gotten a code on it, it just freezes up i think one time it threw an e 78 i think i dont recall. There is a shop in my city that fixes mother boards and they said they do the 360 i think i might drop it off and have them redo the gpu and cpu seems like a good idea huh?
