Title: Liteon 16d2s Replacement Question
Post by: deans21 on January 18, 2012, 04:29:00 PM
Hey guys and gals,

I wouldn't say I'm extremely knowledgeable when it comes to drive modding but I have experience flashing every type of drive. The more recent dash updates have left me a little confused however. Here is my situation:

I had a LiteOn DG-16D2S which I unfortunately bricked while updating to 2.0 back in December. I had an old Hitachi drive laying around which I spoofed until I could get a replacement. At the time, I was running an older version of iXtreme and could not use XGD3 backups.

My 16D2S arrived in the mail the other day and I'm just a little confused as to the process I should follow now. Do I need the original key off of this replacement for any reason? Or can I skip the extraction and flash my bricked LiteOn key to it? Would that cause problems down the road for updating?

Also, should I be ok to flash this replacement from stock straight to 3.0? Or should I flash to stock with my bricked key, update the dash and then flash to 3.0? My current dashboard is 2.0.13604.0.

As you can probably tell, I don't care if I'm Live safe or not.

Any info you can provide would be helpful.

Thanks

You "bricked" it?

LiteOn drives are pretty easy to unbrick, if you still have it, of course.

I had kept hearing that they're pretty hard to brick but I spent quite a bit of time researching and messing around. Nothing I did would get it to go. I suppose I could mess around with it a bit more first....

I still don't know how/why you think you bricked it, but look at the Jungleflasher tutorial and the links on page 11 under the "What drive do you have" section.

what ever u didn't do right with the first one, will happen with the second one.  the drive isn't broken, your setup isn't configured right.

Look at sticky post in this forum about bricked liteons. There is an easy way to unbrick it using lo_erase. I've unbricked several. As for the replacement drive u don't need it's key if u end up using it. Just the key from your original drive.

But be sure to try loerase
