Can the key be extracted by other means other then JF, I'm not worried about the FW right now and no I don't intend on spoofing the drive. Just want to know if the Kamikaze hack will work with it or not. Not RGHing the drive neither. Just interested in getting the key via Kamikaze only.
-
Apparently the firmware has been dumped but has a different encryption than the previous LiteOn drives, so no you cannot get your key.
-
Um, the Kamikaze hack isn't to retrieve the key.
People have reported that the usual method of dumping the key doesn't work.
-
Thanks, garbage. I assume damn near every console found on shelves is going to be this new drive as well...I just purchased a slim for the first time and they took the damn inspection window to see the date out. That's garbage, so I take it out of the box, the console was made in Octoboer '11 so I'm just assuming it's the 16D5S 1175 drive.

Intended on attempting to "unlock" the drive.
This is what I'm doing.
Going to attempt my first Kamikaze hack. I ordered a tx board in case things go wrong. This is just a trial and error process I'm doing. So what I'm trying to do.
Get the key in case all hell breaks loose.
Test my drilling skills.
If drilling goes wrong I have a replacement board and would be on standby till a method to write the FW is released.
And I just realized the replacement board will NOT work with this drive. ( That's just an assumption though ) as it's designed for the previous drive.

The replacement PCB may work, all that was said was that the encryption had changed, if the board itself is the same then i can't see a problem there.

I'm sure best buy will get aggravated with me returning consoles left and right till I find a proper drive lol.
-
If by other means of the getting the key has failed.....
If you completely bugger up the kamakaze hack and dont retrieve your key your box will be a doormat anyway
TX replacement board wont be any good without the key

Which is why I want the key first. I remember before there was a few slim drives you could dump the key too but couldn't do much more with it, till the replacement boards came about then followed up with the Kamikaze hack...I was hoping the same could be done with this drive and we could at least get the key and even unlock for that matter.

I have a JTAG Jasper, I'm a modder from back in the day and never bothered with the slims. Attempting it now and well before I tell a customer I can do it I'd rather burn my own box...I'd rather do the Kamikaze hack and I'll always have the TX board as a 'o shi!' back up plan.

I got my surprise 1175 at Sears and I can't bring it back! Had the price of yours been cut by at least 1/3? I'm wondering if there's a pattern to 1175s distribution (ei. drastically reduced consoles or at Major stores) or if it's just random.

Why couldn't you bring it back? Or we're they charging a restocking fee? Best Buy will take anything back as long as it's not tampered with. Which it's not, I'm assuming it's a 1175 based of the Manf. Date.

Apparently, since we turned it on and played a game on it, it's used! I know it's a 1175 because I found out after some research, but not before my kids used it, that it was manf Oct 2011 and therefore cannot be modded....yet.

Ahhhh, I haven't even bothered turning mine on, I opened it, looked at the date put it back in the box. I seen 4 GOW3 consoles, but I have no need for them and don't wanna sit on a 400 dollar console waiting on someone to buy it.

Well at least I got the bundle at a really good price so I can make a bit of a profit if I sell it.
-
why don't you just get the team/lot codes and use your phone to look up 360drives website befoer you buy the xbox?
also, I just did 2 slims with manufacture dates in Aug 11 and Apr 11. Both drives were actually 2010 drives. After that, I don't trust manufacture dates so much.

From now on, I'll do that. According to http://adelaide360mods.com/ any lot number before 1132 (year 2011, week 32) should be fine. Of course, they are located in England, so perhaps it's different for them.

That's all the info I really found as well. Based of 360drives.com it varies..Based off the lot numbers I seen at the local Best Buy they are all going to be the newest drive, except for the 3 GOW3 consoles they have in stock.

"Quick update to nip a few items in the bud since the questions have already started..
1. The LT+3.0 that has been released last night is for Benq and phat Liteon drives *only*. This does not work on Hitachi 78/79 or slim Liteon drives. Slim Liteon has been announced for sometime January and no ETA for Hitachi 78/79.
2. With everyone who is getting a brand new 360 this holiday season please keep in mind that not all units can be modded! If you got either a Slim 4gb, Slim 4gb with Kinect, or Slim 250gb Holiday 2011 Bundle (Comes with Halo Reach and Fable3) it's highly likely your unit can *not* be modded in any way at the moment. The only units that are still in the retail channel that likely can be modded are the super bundles (eg. Gears of War 3 or Modern Warfare 3 Bundle).
So the next logical question is how can I tell if my unit can be modded..?
Flash - Check the manufacture date on the back of the unit. The last batch of units using moddable DG-16D4S drives were made before June 2011. Units before this date should be okay but the only way to tell for sure is to open the system and look for the drive model.
RGH Jtag - Check the amperage consumption on the back of the unit. Older Trinity boards with the HANA chip that's required for RGH Jtag are listed at 12v 10.8a. Newer Corona boards use less at 12v 9.6a. Be sure to check the consumption on the back of the unit and not on the power supply since older 135watt power supplies have shipped with newer Corona systems. The cut off date was approximately August 2011."
This basically is in line with what has been discussed here and on the rest of the site. Judging from 360drive.com, MS gradually started introducing 1175 as far back as November 2010. It then, started to systematically ship consoles to different countries starting with two shipments in July and August to Bestbuy in the US, then to large department stores in most of Europe and the rest of the world -even an american airbase in Hong Kong.
I suppose, economically, it makes sense for MS to put out something like the slim and with such mass distribution. But down the road, say in a couple months, if game prices don't go down and even less games are introduced to the market, the older consoles will become more valuable as the newer slim become, well, just a pain. And nobody, not even the rich, wants to pay $50 a game in this ecomonic climate. This glut is going to cause a high supply and low demand of slim consoles, kinects and their games. It will also cause a high demand for the older modded consoles and backup games. But MS is known for their marketing genius, which leads me to believe that they're going to add something tremendous on the xbox Live side of things. But maybe I'm just talking out of my a$$.
I wonder if WiiU would be a better choice?

<blah blah>
I would just like to say, this Ottawamods can speak for themselves, this may be the case in Australia, but i have recently purchased 4 xbox slims during december, 1 4GB model from argos (UK), 2 250GB models from tesco and one 4GB model from gamestation. Every single one was moddable and the latest drive in any of them was 0401. So you may be in luck depending where you live.

All well and good but the bolded puts that whole statement as complete bollocks imo. No 1175s were made in 2010 or even the first 5 months of 2011. This is an established fact that anyone knows and anyone who doesn't know, doesn't have the right to be taken seriously with any depth analysis on anything related to 1175 shipments.
edit...sorry just realised that was your take on it, my understanding was that it was part of the quote from the mod selling site. Anyway, as stated, not a chance in hell these were made in 2010\beginning 2011. Not that it matters, and no offense to yourself, wouldn't have made the comment as was more irritated that a site in a position of trust was giving out false information as fact and not that it was a hypothesis.
