| acn any one tell me how i use this program to apply the PFF's as i can't find the dir to place them in |
for hce v0.7
go to the folder of your region
ntsc for america
pal for europe
ger for german
there is a PPF folder (EDIT: if the folder isnt there just make one)
place the ppf files in it
open hce
press back
choose apply path
select the patch and press a
select the cache and press a to apply or x to undo
wait and press a to finish
. Everyone interested in HCE might wanna go to the forum war3z set up on sourceforge at http://hce.sourceforge.net/forum/. I thought this was kinda inseresting that me and war3z were talking and we figured out that HCE was first released on August 12 2003.
Also, I first suggested that we should recode the program on October 30 of that same year. Cache backup is going good and a little keyboard support will be in by version 8 (not virtual keyboard). The error mode works pretty good and two of the fonts are loaded from the xbe so it can run even without the media folder
. War3z is doing the hex editor and it is developing real quickly so that will definantly be in by 8.0. The other other thing I can think of is a lot of bug fixes from version 7... And a logging system.
i know this is a stupid question... i haven't been around much... but what is the network thingy gonna do?? download ppfs?? auto-update? what what what?/??
p.s. i LOVE the hex editor idea.... that is awesome.... nice job war3z

we'll try all of those then
but also for this:
- you and your friends want a LAN party
- you connect all of them
- start hce
- one person sets everything, applies some patches and got like 3 mp levels ready to play
- he then sends out a 'message' to all the xboxes in the current network that he wants to 'share' the maps
- every xbox gets a popup message with the details like Name/Region and from which xbox
- you accept the transfer and the it starts copying the cache file to your xbox
- with the new backup thing we might even make a ppf of it, send that and then apply it

or just send any file you want to other xboxes

it'll be great

Yea, that sounds freakin' sweet!

so i change my region, want to apply a patch and select my cache

oh cool hce can undo patches

more to come
ok i need some help, if anybody wants,
check out any of your halo map files (cache, compressed, doesnt matter) at 0x40
this is the build date, could you list your builddate here with the region that your halo is
on another thing
the go to offset thing
i had this in mind:

you move arround in the hex numbers,
(A) adds the hex number to the offset thing,
(X) deletes the last,
(B) cancels and (Y) takes you to that offset
any other suggestions for the hex editor?
like what could the find do, ...?
Have it, say, search for Level names, descriptions, etc...
Oh! It would be awesome if there was a built in model injector, it's awesome to swap the models in SP, but there's only Cyborg in multi...
This is what was at decimal offset 64 (0x40 in hex).
01.10.12.2276
NTSC Blood Gulch.
Not sure if it is what you want though.
double post

about the searching, that would be searching for unicode text (the ones with the dots in them
)
| QUOTE (XBOX War3z @ Jun 4 2004, 04:53 AM) |
cool i thought it would all have the same build, ok then i only need the build number of the german cache files
about the searching, that would be searching for unicode text (the ones with the dots in them ) |
Yea, my thought is that all the NTSC BG build versions will be the same and the PAL and German might change.
But who knows..

changed the background color for all menus
hexeditor has a working go to offset thing:

you move with your dpad in the hex numbers and then use A to add a hex number, X to delete last and Y to go to the offset you 'typed'
cache backups working

the information shows if you have a cache or not (you will also get a * behind a cache file but i think im gonna change this so it shows changes)

press black to start the backup thing

after its done everything gets updated and you can continue to work
what's left to do:
- file browser for hex editor
- editing in hex editor (any ideas?
)
- restore backups (something in the menu where you can select (restore/delete) all the backups)
todo: (not for hce08)
- gametype editing
- network
- make ppf by comparing backup to current map
- ...
bu would it be possible to do that? caus if so there a suggestion for a later version
Model injector!

Model Injector would be sweet like extracting from a sp cache file and insert in a mp cache file?
Next set of updates (Almost almost ready for betatest):
Browsing for Hex Editor:

the errors in the drives thing is because im running it with a debug bios
on a normal bios it only gave an error (Unrecognized Volume) for the G partition because I don't have it
looks cool
..... right?...... guys?.....
quite
is this almost done??
the first the we still have to add is the restore thing, its gonna work in most cases and otherwise it will ask you what cache to overwrite (this shouldnt take too long, most code is done already)
the other thing was to add some sort of virtual keyboard but this was too hard for now so it was a little bit annoying
but how else are you gonna use the hex editor
but yesterday i was talking with TJ and he gave me this supereasy idea for a keyboard
no fancy gui just a simple virtual keyboard so i'm gonna make it and then we should be all good for a release
we also got the suggestions from the xlink team to use real system link, this way you can use the network support from hce over the internet with kai
and it would make it easier for us too
Nice...Can't wait!
w00t w00t
:
CACHE:\cache002.map.... shouldnt it be like X:\...?
"Cancel" in the bottom right goes out of the box
otherwise freakin good work i cant believe how fast u dish out these new features

about the thing:
it should only view the letter your on (d in this screen)
and gonna let it show the hex value
the top one is the original value
the one under it the one you can change
probably gonna use left/right trigger to change between editing hex or text
when you click Y to change it will use the one you last edited (hex/text) and put that in the file
its not that good yet, maybe later directly use the keyboard to type in on the screen or even better let you move arround while you are in 'edit mode'
so you can keep change until you press b to go back
Well, it would be nice instead of hexing it, just have an option in the menu 'Change player names' and edit it from there, know what I'm saying?
or weapon/vehicle names, and game msgs.... hmm....

should be fast anyway to type 1000 then to keep scrolling
but this stuff will be for 0.9, we'll work hard to bring keyboard more in
like editing xbox name, change name of gametype, give a name for the ppf description + filename you want to save ppf too
and some other stuff
Wow this is really looking good.. You're truley moving fast.
As a non programer seeking to be a programmer... I also wonder how people code stuff. What kinda of 'code' are you using? Or do you wish not to talk about it? I was just wondering because you work rather fast in it. I mean you fixed those two problems and checked it and then posted back here in 30 minutes.. I mean they were simple yeah but that was wicked fast.
Bump! Anything new?
Keep up the awesome work XW you are my hero!
*i hate when i speak for XW like im in charge, but...*
beta is out so provided there r no big bugs, final release will be soon
Any news on HCE??? I am waiting very anxiously!!!! I cant wait for it to be released!!! Is it almost completed???

| ok first of all, hce is f*ckin awesome!!! |

heres a few ideas i came up with:
when u press black button to go back to dash, what if you could have a menu of dashes to boot that you could set in a .ini file, sorta like when u press start and choose which halo to boot.
|
great idea, will be added

what if when you are editing meta values, such as the gravity multiplier for a vehicle, what if you could use a virtual keyboard with just numbers, - , and . instead of only being able to increase or decrease values by a set increment. for example, on hce 0.7 when you edit the gravity multiplier for hogs on bg, if you press right or left to increase or decrease it, it goes up or down by increments of .1, making it impossible to make it something like .15, because it would go from .1 straight to .2.
|
virtual keyboard will be used for all number editing, but not yet
| QUOTE |
what about being able to edit more things about weapons such as clip size, # of projectiles fired, rate of fire, or accuracy?
|
the is the reflexives thing that we are gonna add some time
| QUOTE |
how about having the option to make campain vehicles such as gun turrets or wraiths fly? i believe that hce currently only supports hogs, ghosts, and scorpions flying.
|
should be doable, just some ini changes
| QUOTE |
model injection sounds cool, and if something like this were to happen, what if it were possible to open two maps at the same time and switch between them by pressing a button such as white.
|
Seems pretty hard for now, would mean alot of changes but cool

| QUOTE |
when entering things with a virtual keyboard such as going to hex offsets, how about being able to move the cursor left and right with right and left triggers. for example, if you were trying to type 12345, and you accidentally typed 1245 (forgot the 3), instead of having to delete the 4 and 5, what if you could just press left trigger twice and move a cursor between 2 and 4 so you could enter the 3.
|
hmmm maybe later but not now
| QUOTE |
im not sure how hard this would be, but that would be cool if hce could decompress mapfiles off of a disc or in a halo maps folder so you wouldnt have to boot the game and load the map like that. if this were to happen it would also be cool if hce could compress cache files into maps and put them in a halo maps folder on the xbox hdd so the mods would be permanent. |
NikeJustDoItOk is planning on adding this
| QUOTE |
creating backup maps and using them to make ppfs would be a great idea that would save the time of having to send the map to the pc, make the ppf, then send the ppf back to the xbox.
|
yup
| QUOTE |
what if hce could create an ftp server so you could connect to your xbox via comp without having to quit hce and go back to dash. |
some other interesting idea once we have the network working, maybe we can just use the xbfilezilla thing
| QUOTE |
well these are all just ideas, and some of them would be a lot harder than others to include, i definately dont expect you to include all of them because if you did do all that you definately wouldnt be human |
