Title: Lite-on Keeps Returning Status 0xff Or Ffff
Post by: thefinalprophey on February 01, 2010, 03:20:00 AM
I've been trying to dump my 74850c drive to practice for doing the newer ones and I have been following this guide using this kit. I have the traces (apparently) cut but I can't get the drive to read at all be it in Jungleflasher, Dosflash x64 or 16.  It always returns status 0xFF and says the drive is not detected.  I never erased the firmware on it.  It originally appeared in Jungleflasher just fine but now it doesn't appear at all.  Using a VIA SATA RAID card that I've been using for a year to do mods.

The drive will also not eject and it gives outward appearances of having firmware erased (I never did though).  Did I brick the drive somehow?  Will the drive not eject or show in JF/Dosflash once I cut the two traces?  Please help!

Ok got it out of 0xFF--my drive tray wasn't open.  But now I can't get status 0x72... I can get to 0x51, 0x52 or 0xD1 but nothing else.  Tried all four resistors.  My traces appear to be cut properly.  Any ideas?

Yeah, tried that, and now I'm stuck at 0xFF again, even with the tray open.  I really hope I didn't fry my PCB somehow.

Are you powering the drive on & off on intro?

I ended up just using dosflash and l-o-eras to get it to work.  I have had nothing but shit luck with Jungleflasher so I think I'll stick to dosflash from now on.

I'm having the same problem, can't get 0x72 from it, only 0x51 and 0x52. Can you tell me how you solve it?
Thanks
