Title: Liteon 83850c Dosflash 1.8 Problem
Post by: madnesstiger on November 13, 2009, 09:08:00 PM
Hi All,

I was following a great tutorial on flashing my Lite-On 83850C drive with JFlasher and Xtractor Reader, when the PC froze on me.

Lucky enough, I had made a Lite_CFW.bin file with JFlasher prior to the freeze, with my DVD key etc.

I found that the firmware had been erased from the drive, as it would no longer eject with CK3.

After thinking I'd bricked the drive, I learnt how to boot up into DOS and use DosFlasher 1.8 to fix the prob and install the new firmware.

Here's where the problem is...

> I boot up DOS and run l-o-eras CC00 a few times until I get FF80
> I then power off-on the CK3 and run l-o-eras CC00 again
> After a few times I get FF72 - which I believe is the goal here
> I then manage to run 'flashdos' and can get it to recognise the drive (when it doesn't recognise, I get a status code of 0x04 or 0xFF whatever they mean, but otherwise I get a 0x11)
> I select the drive (in my case, 1) and get the option to W,E,LITEON E etc.
> If I select LITEON E, the erasing process completes successfully.
> However, If I select W, I get it to ask for my .bin file, but then it hangs on the 'Erasing...' screen
> I figured that also, if I just select 'E' to erase (rather than LITEON E), it hangs here also at the same stage.
> Obviously, when selecting W to write the firmware, it goes through the E process before writing.

I've looked all over for solutions on the net, but haven't found a suitable solution yet.  I've tried different copies of DosFlash 1.8 & 1.7, and also recreated a new .bin file (although I never get that far in the process!)

I can only run DosFlash (I think) as if I try JF for example, the PC freezes, presumably because there's no firmware on the drive.

I'm relatively new to the 360.  However, I'm beginning to understand lots in this process, but have come to a firm halt with this problem!

Is there a solution to this guys?  Surely somebody else has experienced this - is there even a way of skipping the Erasing part of the Write process in DosFlash?!

Cheers.  Thanks for your time.

After further searches (and a good night's sleep), I've made progress.

Here's what I did...

Whilst windows running, and CK3 not powered on (but connected to LiteOn):

1. Manually open tray
2. Remove power cable from back of drive
3. Manually half-open tray
4. Connect power cable to back of drive
5. Remove power cable from back of drive
6. Manually fully open drive
7. Connect power cable to back of drive

Remade USB Flashdisk with Xtreme Boot Maker

1. Deleted all files from root of flashdisk
2. Copied following files to root:  dosflash.exe (v1.8), l-o-eras.exe, lite_cfw.bin (created earlier with JungleFlasher - I believe this is my hacked firmware which incorporates the DVD key I extracted last night using FreeKey - please tell me if this may be incorrect!)

Reboot PC into Dos, using USB FlashDisk.

1. Inserted SATA cable (PC end) into a different slot on my PCI SATA card (it was in the external slot, but I moved it to the slot opposite - facing my PC's internal hard drives)
2. As the above step mean that the SATA port changed from CC00 (see original post above), I ran DosFlash without running l-o-eras first.
3. Detected drive (this time with port D000 and item 0 from the list) and I selected W to write firmware
4. Inserted Lite_CFW.bin as firmware, and hit 'ENTER'
5. The 'Erasing...' worked fine, and proceded with the writing of the firmware.
6. Got a message saying firmware applied, and got a DataSum code of 2ACF (not sure whether this is good or not?!)
7. Tried to operate eject button on CK3, and worked fine!

Rebooted PC into Windows

1. Turned CK3 on to see if Windows froze (as it had started doing previously), and it didn't!

So, I think I may.. just may, have cracked it.  All I have to do now is connect it up to my XBOX and see what happens.

Will post back later.

Ok... good and bad news...   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

The XBOX will boot up and happily accept retail (movie) DVDs and even plays copied (movie) DVDs, but will not play any of my 2 retail 360 games  (Left 4 Dead & Tomb Raider: Underworld)

Instead, a white screen appears telling me to insert the disc into an XBOX 360 console.

From all that I've read, the flashed drive should still play retail 360 games fine.

Is there a solution to this???

Although I have got the identify.bin, and inquiry.bin from my original dump, I cannot find my key.bin (although I do have the key wrote down in front of me)

I believe my dummy.bin is corrupt, and so went ot create new dummy.bin using JungleFlasher, only to be asked for my key.bin.

Is there a way of creating a key.bin file using notepad, or should I try to attempt redumping using LO83_32.exe in dos as I did orginally?

(Although I remember JFlasher telling me it couldn't find L083 info when I requested it under the DVDKey32 tab.)

I know I can't be too far away from completing the task, and it's just so frustrating knowing that it may just be 1 file which is bringing the whole process to a halt!

Thanks for any advice.
