Title: Does Streaming A Dvd Over Wireless Is Good?
Post by: Tangu on June 18, 2004, 05:20:00 PM
Hi guys,

I did a lot of search and couldn't find my answer...

Is it possible to watch a dvd on the Hard drive of the Computer via Wireless though the Xbox ?

Is it going to lag??  it will be watchable or not?

I need to know that before buying my first Xbox :)

Thanks a lot !

I watch them using XBMC through my PC, my DVDR's are in *.img format and they play just fine (no menu tho)

I use DUMeter to monitor my speeds, and it streams around 1MB/s (1000k), so I guess if you used 802.11g you might be able to achieve what your trying to do!

have fun

 thanks for the reply ;)

Hmm nice thing to know !  So it is working with wire at a low transfert, it seem to be less than 10mbit that speed.

Like you said, i think i should be able to do that wireless too...

If any other person can share their experience... feel free :)

Well, I stream alot of avi files and stuff from my PC to the xbox (not my CD Drives though, I dont see a point) and they seem to work fine on my 801.11b 11mbit wireless connection. I did try doing the same thing with another computer on my wireless network (already had w/l network setup before I got the xbox) and it was fine, so I figured it would've been ok.

VERY occassionally with some files (probably because of the encoding or something) when fast forwarding the audio goes out of sync... but its only ever hapened to me with one file.

Avi files or Divx should be okay at 10 or 11 mbis because it is less than 800 megs.

But for a dvd of 4.7 gigs or more, im not sure.

What i did for now, i plugged everything in WIRE mode at 100mbits, and no problem at all for the 4.7 gigs avi DVD iso...

I think i'll stay that way because i don't have any problem and it is quite fast :)
