Title: Xboxmediacenter With Mc360 Skin - June 11th 2006 Cvs Build
Post by: XanTium on June 11, 2006, 04:33:00 PM
XboxMediaCenter CVS build of June 11th 2006 compiled by T3CH with a new beta version (v0.97497) of the MC360 skin, an X360 reproduction skin.
This is a complete snapshot of what is in CVS at the time the build was compiled, with just a few small additions.

*Update* Please be aware that the MC360 skin in this build is a work in progress and contains some rather big visual errors in the new extras section. Most noticable is the Filemanager layout. Team Blackbolt is working on fixing this.

Special Note From T3CH:
QUOTE

* Since XBMC is in a FEATUREFREEZE at the moment, I've decided to make more than one BUILD per week.
If you want to report bugs, please do it the PROPER way, see http://manual.xboxme...SubmitBugReport

* Please note: Support for skins with versions < 2.0 has been removed

* From now onwards I will include the most recent "build" of MC360.

* If you wondered what happened to XBoxMediaCenter.xml, More info here and here.

NOTEWORTHY, XML and SCRIPT CHANGES IN THIS BUILD
QUOTE

* changed: restored dllloader fixes that previously broke realmedia
* changed: replaced our own ftp client with a client based on curl

* Updated Team Blackbolt's MC360 skin from beta v0.9666 (included in the XBMC June 6th 2006 build) to beta v0.97497.

* Keymap.xml: no changes
* XBoxMediaCenter.xml: no changes

Install notes from T3CH readme/nfo:
QUOTE

* DASHBOARD INSTALL (softmods)
See http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=406656

* DASHBOARD INSTALL
- Option 1. Team XBMC's shortcut tool.  It's included in the _tools folder as <<SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe>> + <<SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.cfg>>.
Instructions here
Rename the <<SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe>>+.cfg & also EDIT the .cfg so it matches your config.
Upload to Xbox.
- Option 2. Thanks to an app called 'Team UIX's Xbe Shortcut Maker v1.0' by JbOnE, it's now easy...
Transfer contents of XBMC folder (this is VERY important since the tool is hardcoded) TO "E:\APPS\XBMC\". Rename <<SHORTCUT by TEAM UIX.xbe>> to something your bios can boot  (see here or read your BIOS README) and transfer to location your mod solution boots. No need to fiddle with HOME tag anymore, and future upgrades you need not to worry about this file (unless you move XBMC).

* APPLICATION INSTALL
Edit XBMC\xboxmediacenter.xml to your liking.
Transfer _whole_ XBMC folder to your APPS folder.

* UPGRADE TIPS
If you're updating from a VERY old/bad build you may get issues. Follow these simple rules:
- Replace (FTP OVERWRITE) all files in your XBMC folder with fresh ones from your new build
- Delete old savegame/settings (from E:/TDATA/0face008)
- In some rare cases some of the database files in XBMC/Albums/*.db may need manual deletion (usually if they are very old). Note: This loses all per file settings you made with the old build!

The XBMC manual is available on The XboxMediaCenter manual has also been updated with information about the trainer feature, check it out on manual.xboxmediacenter.de.
You can add more scripts and skins yourself if desired. You can download them from http://allxboxskins.com, http://www.xbox-skins.net and http://www.xbmcscripts.com.
Keep in mind this is a CVS snapshot of the current development tree. It's not a official (stable) point release. Use only if you know what you are doing.

There is zero credibility in complaining about a bug and then failing to provide a properly formatted bug report or indeed putting any sense of effort in trying to help Team XBMC with the issue. Such things just fall into senseless noise.

The XBMC Manual clearly spells out how to do a properly formatted bug report. All too often the devs come on here to this forum and have to ask for debug logs and other details. It happens all too consistently here.

Please think of the value you get for free in this software and then ask yourself how you are helping.

Why is MC360 Credits the only thing there?

Wow, why do they release new builds every five minuites?

Edit: Is there any way I can update from the dashboard instead of downloading everything onto my computer and then FTPing it over?

This one locks up on me everytime I go into the system tab. I have done the clean install method and deleted  T & U data also.

EDIT: This started after I changed theme to glass. Can't seem to get it back to default without it locking up.

They release new builds to fix bugs. If you don't care, why download them?

No, there is no way to update automatically.

okay, so i added the advanced setting that gets rid of the file names showing up in icon mode in my videos.  worked like a charm, but now that i've removed the code from advancedsettings.xml it's still setting that option.  i can't see file names when i have icons and it's kind of annoying since i was just doing it at a test.  i upgraded to today's xbmc but it didn't fix it.  any suggestions?

I would really like the start.wav file to be played again.

Doesn't quite feel right without it... And I've always thought of that as XBMC's trademark, why lose a good thing?

Yes locks up when going to game on me too.

I will try the T3CH build tomorrow. I am going to re-compile it and try again. My Visual Studio locked up halfway through the compile process. I left it alone and then like 15 minutes later it started to go again.

Are you by any chance using the old UserData? That could be the problem too.

Well I was able to get into system settings (didn't try games though)
I didn't see anything for the "File Explorer or Scripts" either.

I just went though the blades pretty quickly and the first thing I tried doing was to remove the "MC360 Guide" After I did the box locked up. I rebooted and it locked up after about 5 seconds. So I rebooted again and in that 5 seconds. I went and re-enabled the guide. It showed up on the media blade, but still froze up. After yet another reboot, The Guide was back but it still froze up after 5 seconds. So I just re-installed the 666 version.

Sorry I don't have a log because I had a few people over and we were between games when I updated.
I'll try to get it tomorrow.

i've finally found it!

the perfect way for u guys to report bugs. this new method promises
- no bug has ever been resolved by reporting a bug this way (well, there was this one time but i still insist the reason was that the dev already knew the problem)
- full frustration from the devs
- it's very simple

it goes like this. you just put a report where it says

'there is a bug'

it's fantastic! you should really try it out!

It has NOTHING to do with the XBMC team.

Reading about everybody's problems - havent installed yet. However, checking the blackbolt site theres a newer MC360 out. 0.97499 (as opposed to 0.97497 being contained within the XBMC build).

Why dont you guys shove that into the XBMC build and see if it might help? The comment about it off the site is:

'This is a new version based after the the on in the 11/06/06 T3CH Release, Changes include minor QTB fixes and the full screen extra blades should be fixed (completed)'

Could someone maybe try it and report back onto the forum? Want to keep my XBMC stable for a few nights while it undergoes heavy usage for music whilst i revise for exams.

are u sure?

you see, the problem is:

it sums the folder sizes to display that instead of the 0.1kb it used to display.
that has to be done once. but, in my update code it wasn't properly stored and hence it did it everytime. but if you delete the db, i'm 90% certain that it will save them correctly since it did so in all of my tests.

you can't be in my programs when u delete the db (obviously) and you cannot even have started my programs on the particular boot of xbmc (not so obvious), if not you won't be able to delete the database.

oh, and if it 'sucks ass' feel free to stop using xbmc.

you probably don't intend it, but have you ever thought of how it feels to get shit like that thrown at you every time you unitentionally make a mistake?  some diplomacy might be in place, no?

Well I got mine since 11.00pm 11th June GMT and I have not really had all the issues you guyz are talking about. I recently installed a 500GB HDD and have 350Gb worth of games. It did not hang when going to games or emulators or anything...Guess am just lucky mine works fine. I even tried the glass theme...and changed the fonts to use the original Xbox360 coz am running it at 720p.

i like the MC360 despite it being buggy am sure guyz are working hard to resolve them as for XBMC i just cant wait for the v2.0 release

Wow.  How uppity of some of you.  Don't you think it's better that people ask about things here first to see if others can reproduce the same problem or give advice before filing a bug report?  Especially where some of the problems seem to be NOT related to XBMC, but the skin being used.  I'm sure the XBMC devs would love to get all the MC360 bug reports.

I asked the above question because since my current install is working fine, I see no need to upgrade every time a new build comes out.  If the above problem was not affected by the previously quoted fix, I will indeed file a bug report.  I just thought someone might be able to verify before I did so.

Now pull your panties out of your crack and relax.  Everything will be fine.

sandpaperback, i doubt that was the problem since it only affected the thumbloader and that isn't enabled during a scan.

your problems isn't general in nature, i can scan my 15k song collection without any problems. i suggest you try to find which file is the culprit - there is probably a broken tag somewhere.

12:04:39 M: 19853312 WARNING: ERROR: Problem accessing the DNS.

configure your dns properly. i don't know your configuration, but typically this can be the same as your routers adress. if you run windows (i assume you have a pc as well), fire up a command window (start->run, type cmd) and
do ipconfig /all. notice the numbers listed as dns (might be called name server). set the same in xbmc.

and;

the reason it 'worked' before was that we had some hardcoded ips. those were removed since they were only confusing ppl into believing that their network was properly configured when in fact it wasn't.

Can't open the database MyPrograms6.db as it is a NEWER version than what we were expecting!

Yet deleting and letting XBMC recreate the file doesn't have any effect on this path issue, nor the occurance of that message in the log on restart

Ed:
Thanks spiff
, I hadn't changed the defaults in a long while for my setup (I dont us XBMC as a dash), as this is for someone else's box I did some time ago, who want's to move change to MC360. I did have a look at the wiki but the old info is stil there as canon, regarding <path>.

Also, Since moving from 666->06-11, changing from MC360->PMIII under  Appearances "traps" you in the Configuration section of XBMC and that with MC360, the open drive widget does nothing (yeah I know its v. likely a MC360 only thing). Can anyone confirm these things also?

Cheers

it's very simple - support for single .xbes in bookmark definitions was removed.

use a .cut file instead.

<shortcut>

stick it inside the bookmark where you want it to show (i.e. put it in e:\apps in your example).

Here I thought I was crazy.  I was running with no issues with this build, starting reading this and thought damn maybe I'm getting lucky.  But everyone is using the beta mc360 skin I guess.  I've tried out mc360 but even with the 666 build it wasn't ready for prime time yet.  I guess at this point you should mention the skin you are using so as to avoid confusion.

make a file, let us call it foo.cut, we want it to point to c:\xboxdash.xbe.

the file would be a text  (xml) file with

make a file, let us call it foo.cut, we want it to point to c:\xboxdash.xbe.

the file would be a text  (xml) file with

<shortcut>
  <path>c:\xboxdash.xbe</path>
</shortcut>

in it.

So, is not recommendable to use:
<onclick>C:\evoxdash.xbe</onclick>
?

sure, i assume u mean xbmc.runxbe(c:\evoxdash.xbe)

what we are talking about is having a single xbe in a bookmark definition.

!INVALID CODE!

<bookmark>
  <name>foo</name>
  <path>c:\xboxdash.xbe</path>
</bookmark>
!INVALID CODE!

that used to be supported in my programs bookmark paths.

sandpaperback, i doubt that was the problem since it only affected the thumbloader and that isn't enabled during a scan.

your problems isn't general in nature, i can scan my 15k song collection without any problems. i suggest you try to find which file is the culprit - there is probably a broken tag somewhere.

Okay.  It's not a problem with any of my music files (not directly anyway).  It only happens when I scan my music to the database and there's a zip file in one of the directories.  Like if I zip up an album and then forget to move/delete the zip.  I took a quick look to see if a bug had been filed, but I didn't see one.  So I'll file one tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks.

I didn't feel like reading through everyone's rants about this release, but as far as the game menu issue is concerned, I had the same thing where it said it was updating something, locked up, and then every time I tried to get to the game menu, it seemed to lock up... well I let it sit for about five minutes and then the hdd started crunching away and the games popped up... dunno if anyone else noticed or not (this is with the MC360 skin, btw).

Ok i'm not associated with the build 666 or pre releases there after, however i can provide a detailed summary of bugs i have found and collaborated from others:

BUGS:
My Videos, My Pictures thumbs not working
Answer: New thumbs directory will solve this, it has been auto created by the T3CH.

Pictures not previewing
Answer: Still no fix, however better luck if not playing with a visualization running

Videos not playing
Answer: Still no fix if you have this problem, however see previous bug and refer to remove any previous builds.

System Blade Lockup
Answer: More people in common are having this one, as of the time writing this no fix has been found. Though i would say to fix this would relate to somehow the settings being saved and not deleting any previous preferences.

Logo load only
Answer: Having this one personally, you must of activated the Master Lock and currently not supported in this build. I am referring that you will only see the XBMC logo/lightning logo then either a resume loop function like action will occur or power off.

No Remote access:
Answer: Somehow unknown but post detailed problems and someone will help you if you make sense.

Kai freeze
Answer: Check as usual all network settings of both clients/server or any other nodes if applicable.

Any other problems please post in the right place. I am really looking forward to contributing any fixs to this build as i think the MC360 skin is the best of any skin in any XB-App/Dash.

Also note the use of the Shortcut must use for dash. Also to know i tried using other shortcut makers and they failed, Team UIX's shortcut no problems.

Hey, maybe i'm just slow... but whats up with the new ftp system? Maybe i missed a few versions but is the first iteration of it?

Any reason for upgrading? faster, lower memory, less buggy, more stable, all of the left?

Just interested to know, for the heck of it. Also might benifit to find if there are some tricks with it, such as boost mode or something... as I often tranfer alot to my xbox and back.

but seeing that you are asking for help, what makes you think you are the correct person to filter the log?  smile.gif

we can't tell anything from those errors as they are general 'something fucked up' errors. what's interesting is what is going on BEFORE the shit hits the fan.

Is there any particular reason that I can't access the XBMC ftp?  It just says waiting for welcome message & times out.
I never had any problems with getting any of the other releases & nothing on my network has changed.

Sorry I know this isn't a dev issue, but hoped someone could point me in the right direction.  Thanks guys Keep up the hard work!

the "main" XBMC distribution FTP server where T3CH builds are usually found is down. you can get the 6-11-06 build on the regular Xbins FTP server...

yo Spiff, don't know if you caught this, but on a "fresh" install of the 6-11 build, the first time i go into My Programs it pauses as it recurses the directories and builds the "size" values, but the Size column erroneously displays the 0.1 KB values. it updates this display next time you enter My Programs. just thought you'd wanna know.

Im not sure what all the problems are from, I downloaded the XBMC available on xbins, the original mc360 skin that came preinstalled had a few problems, I then just downloaded the newest mc360 skin available on allxboxskins.com, and put that one in place of the original one i had, and after that everything worked great.  It doesnt hang, when going through the different tabs, the movie trailers work perfect (there are some pretty good movies coming out soon), and I can ftp to it with no problem.

myprograms6.db

Allright, I know what my problem is: It takes ages to get to the game section, because there is a bug in "myprograms6.db" found in UserData/Database/.
I have read this in www.xboxmediaplayer.de forum. But the solution given there, doesnt't work for me: Deleting the file.
Any help?

I am sorry if this question has been already answered, but I've read many posts and i can't not find it.

And also, do you know how to post in xboxmediaplayer forum. I have registered, I log in, but when i try to post... nothing.

Thanks,

Pschirki:

Your issue is that you have a locked harddisk.  Either unlock the disk, or replace it with another one.

Please seriously consider sending the harddisk to an XBMC developer so we can squash that bug.
