I recently built a 400gb xbox for my living room downstairs, largely for the purpose of entertaining company with a collection of 80's and 90's gaming. I've seen elaborate schematics to essentially 'make' a usb adapter for them (and god they look awful when they're done). But I'm interested in a simpler option that might be cleaner.
Way back when, I bought a sharkpad for my xbox. It came with this really slick, very subtle adapter that slid into one of the card slots with the xbox controller. It was awesome. And as I got into modding, I've noticed that some programs can read removable storage inserted there; and most programs will even accept input from a keyboard and mouse run through there.
Getting down to my question...:
I'm seeing a lot of 'retro style' controllers on ebay and amazon, they're designed to look and feel like controllers of yore from the glory days of Nintendo and Sega, and they plug into a basic usb port as plug and play.
Has anyone tried these on an xbox? I want to know if they can be used to play some of the classics in a more authentic way. I'm thinking of buying one to plug into my usb adapter, but I don't know if the xbox, or emulators would be equipped to handle input other than an original xbox controller.
Here are examples of what I've been looking at:

Anyone have input on this? Anyone tried anything like it? Has anyone even tried a plain old USB gamepad in their xbox? I know it's already USB native, I've done old rewiring projects for that... Just, never tried gamepads and don't want to buy if they won't work :/
