All indications point to "no". The only available LBA48 implementation for the system is more like LBA32, meaning it won't recognise any more then 2.2tb.

and even if it could there would be no way to partition it, as the largest partition that can be used is 1tb (youd have to figure a way to implement a 3rd extended partition)

As of a few months ago (thanks to ldotsfan), XBMC can now access up to about seven or eight extended partitions (and XBPartitioner has been able to format additional ones for who knows how long). Currently, my 750gb drive is divided up into three chunks of about 250gb each - F, G and R. The extra partitions work the same as F/G do for the purposes of launching games and so forth, though only XBMC lets you access them.

so could you have three 1tb partitions?

You could, if the X-Box had access to true LBA48. But apparently it doesn't, so the maximum you'd be able to assign seems to be 2.2tb (two 1tb partitions and a 200gb partition).

This is assuming the figure ldotsfan provided isn't using manufacturer's megabytes. If it is, then you'd only be able to have two ~1tb partitions. Note that a drive sold as having 2tb on it would be measured that way, so you'd only have about 1.8tb of "real" space (two ~925gb partitions).

So you are saying it may be possible to do 3 roughly 733 gb partitions? The XBMC version that supports multiple partitions, is it availible?

Yeah, google around for "XBMC4Xbox".

Stupid Question Number One. You are connecting External USB Drive to XBox1 how? Mini USB cable? And with USB 1.1 it gives you good performance on playback???

you cant use a USB drive over 4gb with xbox1, the USB drivers wont read anything over that

personally i use USB 2.0 external drives connected to my PC, then use samba (windows shared folders) to stream over the network

A 1tb partition requires 64kb clusters. 2tb would require 128kb, and to make a partition larger then that you'd need 256kb.

Since 64kb is the largest we can do, we currently use multiple 1tb partitions. There's nothing stopping us from having more then two extended partitions, it's just that no BIOS is likely to recognise all the space on a 3tb drive.

can you elaborate on why? is it technically possible for someone to write a bios to support "true LBA48" as you stated above? is this a hardware limitation or strictly a software/firmware issue?

There's no reason I can see as to why the BIOS code "couldn't" be tweaked. However, AFAIK there hasn't been an update to the range of available BIOS types in years; I doubt anyone will look into this.

Ashame really
My Original xbox still holds up after all these years my kids love them (one in every room)
If someone did update the bios it would show that the box still has life
And to think the xbox would have one up on windows xp then
But imagine if 3 yrs from now we're talking about who put in a 5tb drive laugh.gif

I'd do it too  laugh.gif

Can anyone confirm the 2.2TB max?

Here's the confirmation.

Wow found my old post searching.

Question. Has anyone actually bought a 3 tb and tried to make it work.

If not I will

Ok so the 3tb is in but i'm having problems obviously. First off it is only reading 2.2 tb in xbpartitioner. 2nd wen I make 3partitions of lets say 990 990 and 320 then I go to xboxhdm 1.1 and redo it with 64 bit clusters it works but
If I even toggle a partition bigger the 1tb it freezes then won't load the dash and I have to put mechassault back in and re mod it again.

This is the harddrive i'm using
http://www.microcent...duct_id=0361177

Is the a patched bios or a new xbpartitioner. I found a old thread but I can't compile code.....

keep on asking.
but all you gonna get as a reply is fatx is limited to 2.2tb.. its what was said before you got the drive and is what will be said now..

The support for that is in the bios though so.. if you can re write it then anything is possible id imagine.

Anyone point me in the right direction to make a lba48 bios. I know for my old ata33 mac the is a loader of some type to read larger drives

OK so its been a while. The 4tb harddrives are out and are there any workarounds to make this work. Either a bios upgrade or a patch to xbpartitioner

Have you rewritten a BIOS yet so that it can read multiple 1TB partitions on a 4TB disk?

Have you checked that the on-disk partition table can support multiple 1TB partitions?

Have you gone through the kernel and replaced all of the 32bit sector numbers used for low-level access with 48 bit numbers?

Have you rewritten XBPartitioner to support 128kB clusters?

No? Well, there's your answer. It doesn't matter how many times you keep asking the same question, until you actually do some work nothing is going to change.
