...back in the day i had a crossover cable and memory card with Linux on it and i used the game save exploit
but i have been away from this scene for years and i no longer have access to those goodies
so is it possible now days to simply take the drive out and mod it a different method by hooking up the HDD to my old PC?

actually i think i remember hot swapping and using a larger HDD ...i cloned the drive...but it was already soft modded before i cloned the drive....im sorry but there is A LOT to sift threw now days ...there is literally a thousand tutorials on this site ....i noticed there was drivers now for XBOX HDDs does that mean there is no longer a need to hot swap?...i guess you could say im just looking for the most UP TO DATE tutorial on modding my XBOX1 with XBMC....with just hot swapping or a newer method without having to use anything but THE HDD and PC

there is a ton of reading involved. make sure you understand what you are doing, and BACK UP EVERYTHING!!! if infact you do have an older computer. i suggest using the first option as the 2nd one is still buggy.
someone else may have better advice for you, as i am somewhat amature at this. but the links i gave you are sound solutions.

Good advice. I still use link #1 to this day, its about the best there is.

well it makes me feel good to have an expert say my advice is sound
.option 1 is how i modded my personal xbox a few years ago. still use that box everyday. i have made option 2 work, as i have a newer pc now, but i prefer to use it only for hdd upgrades as it can be finiky with NDURE.
these days i use krayzies splinter cell exploit and a custom made USB to xbox breakaway. by far the easiest and fastest way to go about a softmod these days. ive done 3 in the past 3 weeks.

usb mods are cool, if you get the right thumbdrive, it wil work like a memory card and you can transfer stuff back and forth.

im not an expert on the shadow c, but my understanding is that it prevents games from auto updating your dash and borking your softmod.

This has nothing to do with a virtual EEPROM, though the basic concept is similar. Hide the real version to protect the original.
