there's only a couple ps2 games i like to play (can count them on one hand- the harmonix games mainly) but there good enough to make me not sell my ps2...so if the next gen versions of those games are good, chances are i will end up with one too.

What? PS was all about RPG's not xbox... Fable was the biggest one. PS had the whole fuckin' FF franchise. Almost every game I look at for PS2 is an RPG it seems like. I may or may not get a PS3. I didn't buy a Gamecube because N64 was a HUGE let down. And the games I wanted on GC were also available on XB or PS2. Same thing with PS2... it was kind of a let down. I only own about 6 or 7 games for PS2 (half of which I got before XB). The only definate buy criteria would be if it is <400, actually has BR (so it'll be a two-fer kinda thing), and has a few games that are actually appealing that I can't get on 360.

im a loyal xbox fan, and it would take somethign very special to make me want to get a ps3.

why fight over which console is better?
My Solution -- Buy all three next-gen consoles so that you can then enjoy every game that you'd like, regardless of what system it is on...
And then for the games that are multi-platformed, well, if you have a modded box it is probably no question...and if a mod for PS3 comes along with similar capabilities, the decision will obviously be a bit more difficult but in that case you should all be able to just make a simple choice and not give a fuck either way...
The whole point of playing a game is to enjoy it...not live it.

Nope. Never like the PS2, it feels cheap, looks nasty and I don't see what it actually has going for it. I expect the PS3 will be the same... the only thing I can currently see it has over the 360 is the dual hdmi outputs. But honestly, who in their right mind has two HDTVs, and if they do (rich buggers) what are the chances they are stored right next to each other in the living room??
Sure, it's a dream to line up two 55" Plasma HDTV next to each other, but I don't think I'm the only person who can't afford £10400 and have the space for it either.

Remember the Ps2 demo's before the Ps2 came out? Not one single game even looked 1/4 as good as those did, so all the demo's you are seeing for the Ps3 now are all a farse, the final product won't look near as good.
I like video games though so I'll look into getting one but I won't be getting it at launch like I am with the Xbox360.

i no longer have any interest in the PS2. And to be honest, any interest i had in the past was due to media hype. But along came the xbox, and i will be forever hooked!
Gran Turismo was good, but it disapears into obivion in comparison to Forza (alright, not so many cars, but shit... every other aspect makes up for that!)
Killzone may be good... but the limitations of the ps2 just make it play crap. Halo 2 definatly takes the cake.
Plus, pretty much EVERY game comes out on all systems anyway.
I'll definatly be getting an Xbox 360. And maybe a revolution. As for PS3, i'll have to see as time goes on, but chances are, i won't. because i don't like sony. and don't support assholes, liers, and cheats.

Because they ARE liars and cheaters, are you the only one who haven't heard that Sony is sued for introducing MALWARE into your computer without permission through their music CD's and that they are trying to distribute their products of Music CD's, Movies and Videogames under a EULA (yes music and video products distributed under a EULA type license) that take away all your rights such as making own backups or playing your discs in the equipment you want?.
They even patented some days ago a method to avoid people to play their own purchased games in other people console (hope they are not trying to implement this into ps3)
Some times people is just blind (or too fanboy) and tend to follow the masses, and they are even convinced themselves that the games you mention are the best of the best because they are complete ignorant of the catalogue of other systems. Games such as God of War, Gran Turismo and Jak3 are just plain GARBAGE compared with their counterparts in xbox, they are not bad games either, but Sony fanboys are happy thinking they are the best available, i have nothing against this. Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy are the main reason i own a PS2, but i have not had 1/20 the fun with my ps2 than i have with my xbox.

I used to love sony, i even was against getting an xbox because the ugly controllers and the size of it. Then i actually got one and i was just stunned at how much better it was than the PS3.
Another reason for me getting a 360 is this forum, because i can not find a fucking decent ps2 forum with tuts and a great member base which love helping you and so many people on these foums are getting taught each day by someone else.
Also the modding capabilites, we have linux, windows, media players, emulators, BIOS programs, lots of grunt, a good looking machine unlike the PS2 (It's uglier than the ugliest chick i have ever seen in my whole entire life)

- Do you imagine your TV split in 7 parts to allow 7 player simultaneously?
- Gigabit and wi-fi are right, but Sony said these ports are NOT designet to work with a PC, maybe you will see some homebrew using it but not at full speed like it is happening in PS2.
- Standard 1080p, let me laugh at this HA, ¿did you know this resolution stress the machine 4 times 720p?, you will see in 1080p only really bad graphic games (poker or domino games XD) or even no game at all.
- Backwards compatibility, i dont mind if they use patches or discs or a free external accesory, i only want to play my games. and keep in mind xbox hardware is much more difficult to emulate with all its features (power, 5.1, HD, etc..) than PS2
- Do you know whay blu-ray is? Answer: is nothing more than a round shaped DRM with a hole in the middle made by sony to take out your rights. and is by no means imprescindible for gaming. And No M$ is not implementing DRM's in their CD's or DVD's, because MS is not a content provider, and Watermarking (which is much worse than DRM) is not possible on standard DVD's
Because all this fancy stuff analists say xbox 360 could cost half the ps3 by the beginning of 2007 delivering about the same in gaming experience (whats up with that?) this time economics war has turned 180 degrees. umm.. wonder if Sony began to take out features like when they launched the ps2...

Sony keeps lieing as with every console they launch, when they say Playstation 3 Development Kit they are LIEING because these kits don't exists in final stages, perhaps they are refering this is a recorded movie from a computer intended to create contents for PS3 XD they did that same with PS2, where are all this great graphics they showed in ingame videos before ps2 launch?, and the same happened with PSP, before launch its graphics seemed to be slightly better than PS2 graphics, and the reality is that its graphics are much poorer than PS2. Always the same shit coming from Sony before launch.
Unreal 3 engine at this point only runs on the developer´s computers and not a PS3 or even a PS3 DK XD
So we have see NOTHING about PS3 in-game graphics, but developers interviews always remarks they will be about the same than X360. Xbox 360 has the most powerful 3D chip from ATI, and PS3 the most powerful from Nvidia, and almost the same ram speed. WHY think it will have auto-magically better graphics than X360?, ok, ok, if you are a fanboy i can understand you believe in this.
And please, dont be an ignorant and dont compare difficulties in programing between Xbox 360 and PS3, please, please dont do it again, every body knows this battle is already won. Any company is easier to program to than Sony because their insistent lack of documentation and proper tools.

- Gigabit and wi-fi are right, but Sony said these ports are NOT designet to work with a PC, maybe you will see some homebrew using it but not at full speed like it is happening in PS2.
- Standard 1080p, let me laugh at this HA, ¿did you know this resolution stress the machine 4 times 720p?, you will see in 1080p only really bad graphic games (poker or domino games XD) or even no game at all.
- Backwards compatibility, i dont mind if they use patches or discs or a free external accesory, i only want to play my games. and keep in mind xbox hardware is much more difficult to emulate with all its features (power, 5.1, HD, etc..) than PS2
- Do you know whay blu-ray is? Answer: is nothing more than a round shaped DRM with a hole in the middle made by sony to take out your rights. and is by no means imprescindible for gaming. And No M$ is not implementing DRM's in their CD's or DVD's, because MS is not a content provider, and Watermarking (which is much worse than DRM) is not possible on standard DVD's
Because all this fancy stuff analists say xbox 360 could cost half the ps3 by the beginning of 2007 delivering about the same in gaming experience (whats up with that?) this time economics war has turned 180 degrees. umm.. wonder if Sony began to take out features like when they launched the ps2...

Sony keeps lieing as with every console they launch, when they say Playstation 3 Development Kit they are LIEING because these kits don't exists in final stages, perhaps they are refering this is a recorded movie from a computer intended to create contents for PS3 XD they did that same with PS2, where are all this great graphics they showed in ingame videos before ps2 launch?, and the same happened with PSP, before launch its graphics seemed to be slightly better than PS2 graphics, and the reality is that its graphics are much poorer than PS2. Always the same shit coming from Sony before launch.
Unreal 3 engine at this point only runs on the developer´s computers and not a PS3 or even a PS3 DK XD
So we have see NOTHING about PS3 in-game graphics, but developers interviews always remarks they will be about the same than X360. Xbox 360 has the most powerful 3D chip from ATI, and PS3 the most powerful from Nvidia, and almost the same ram speed. WHY think it will have auto-magically better graphics than X360?, ok, ok, if you are a fanboy i can understand you believe in this.
And please, dont be an ignorant and dont compare difficulties in programing between Xbox 360 and PS3, please, please dont do it again, every body knows this battle is already won. Any company is easier to program to than Sony because their insistent lack of documentation and proper tools.

Ahem...May i say that after Halo came out, most of the games on Ps2 hit the Xbox shelves...Xbox 360 will just plain suck. I'll be suprised if i don't see an XBP (Xbox Portable) by the end of 2006-2007 hit the stores...

Not to sound too repetitive of everyone else on here but I won't be getting one because first of all I have never seen a single peice of equipment from sony that did not F up within the first 6 months of having it, I really don't care for RPGs that much so the games are really not an issue, and even if they were, just because they have made a deal with a software company to have exclusive rights to a game, people think that that makes them better then any other console? Personally if there were no exclusive rights to games, and they released every single game out there on every single console, I believe that xbox would reign over all systems, first of all because of their load time (at least half of other consoles, even more if it is modded and you save your game to your hard drive, after you buy it of course for all you cheap skates), second of all for their graphics quality (unsurpassed as far as consoles are concerned), third of all for thier controllers (every time I use a ps2 controller for more then an hour my hands are killing me), and finally the modding capability, intentional or not, makes the xbox the most versitle console ever.
Now this is all about the older systems, but if we have ever learned anything from all of history, it is history CAN and WILL repeat itself. I personally hate MS in all of there anti-trust BS but this is one thing they have managed to do right so I will give them props for that.
So again I will not be buying a ps3 because I dont want to waste my money on a peice of hardware that is just going to break and end up being completly useless to me.

I get really tired of people talking about things they know nothing about. Just the other day I heard some kids saying how the PS3 graphics were "twice as good" I asked them if they'd seen any screenshots/movies even prerendered ones, they hadn't. Yet there was an Xbox 360 right in front of them showing off it's glory.
Personally I would never buy a PS3, I don't like Sony, and I don't think PS3 is going to do well at all. Yes it'll get the bigger market share, because it's Playstation. Hell Sony could put a pile of steaming dog shit into a box, label it Playstation and loads of people would buy it! (Oh wait they already do!)
I just don't think PS is going to have the range of games it did last gen, and the online model Sony is going to use is going to fail miserably I think.

i can see your point of view DLou092, but i dont agree with it. your right in saying that the ps3 will be more powerfull then the 360, thats no problem. the real problem is that it is a lot harder to code for, and therefore, devolopers will eb keen to go for teh 360, if it means the time spent to make a game is far less.
and then theres the online experince. there are a lot of people who love to play online, and Sony's lack of a centralised system to do that via will leave them severly lacking.
i predict the market share, over the life of this generation, to be almost even, slightly in MSs favour

I will be buying a PS3 but not right at launch. Every game console released at launch has always had a higher percentage of bugs or a couple of design flaws that are usually remedied several months after launch. (ie launch XBOXs overheating and having defective DVD-ROM drives, Playstation/PS2s not having the laser tightened on some launch consoles, XBOX 360 overheating and DVD drives being knocked off center) There are a couple of titles on the PS3 that I absolutely must have (ie Killzone 2, the next generation gran turismo), so I will definitely be getting one.

It's a maybe for me. Thankfully, this console will not be massively underpowered and be able to offer some real graphic competition with the 360. The reason I never got into the PS2 was the graphics, from my eyes, tend to be not that great. I understand it's all about the gameplay, but I'd like to be able to see the gameplay and not gameplay passed massive aliasing. Gotta admit, PS3 has some huge potential, and Sony's got the library of games locked. Almost total backwards comaptability is a major plus, too. Can catch up on all the great games I've missed.

i think that the ps3 will be good.
the games will look like games on the 360.....for a while.
then the 360's superior cores over the Cell will pull ahead as multi-core games are developed.
also the XNA architecture will blow sony's away.
360 supports a much much newer system, as opposed to sony, who's using a patched up version mostly from the ps2 but dating back to the psx...

i like to know why everyone keeps on calling Sony liers & cheats WHY what is the reason behind this nasty name calling ????
anyway regarding which console i will be buying its all down to which console has the best games,in this case i think ps3 will win becuase they themself do make some quality titles for the ps2 like : ICO & they do have games exclusively made for them xbox owners can only dream about like god of war, gran trismo , devil may cry , jak3 ,metal gear solid 3 & many others ,so let not start comparing xbox to ps2 because the two dont match(ps2 is the winner no doubt & has sold over 100 million ps2 thats 4 to 1 compared to xbox) unless you want a console that you can fiddle alot with then in this case xbox is the winner .
the only time you can HONESTLY compare xbox360 to ps3 is if the games released for both were all the same but then that wont happen & again sony's console will do it again like they did it for ps2 but this time its gonna be way better games & thats why they will be the winner again.
just watch when ps3 is released next summer the entire world from east to west will go absolutely nuts & everyone will be dying to get their hands on it & a copy of metal gear solid 4 & heavenly sword ''''WoW'''''. its going to literally smash xbox360 and revelution .

One more thing before I end this post. I know you are all hating on the Playstation 3 but Sony has a reason for that too. Sony went to a number of different docters specializing with "Hands" and they told Sony that their controller would be better for your hands so that you could play for longer periods of time without having your hands hurting. Along side of that reason Sony's PS3 can hold more controllers (7 to be exact) than that of the XBOX 360 (which can only hold 4) and PS3's controllers run on Bluetooth Wireless technology and XBOX's runs 2.4 GHz Wireless. Their controller might look better but don't get your hopes up!
Winner: Playstation 3
Reason: Better Graphic's, Better Processor, Much better Integrated Communications, and finally better Graphics Core Clock Speed.
