Newer X2 chips come now come with a cromwell bios that does not require Ozxchip. Just follow these steps indicated by pdenton. (thanks pdenton)

if you have an xecutor 2.2 lite and are having problems getting cromwell to read your bios cd, i have help.

1) YOU DONT NEED THE OZXFLASH CD, JUST THE XECUTOR BIOS! (irc.easynews.com #xbins and jump on the ftp using their instructions. the dir on the ftp is /XBOX/bios/xecuter/xecuter2/MULTI )
2) dont use ultraiso and all that shit, its lame. i tried it and it didnt work. i have windows xp and used its integrated cd burning shit and it worked perfectly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO MAKE THE BIOS CD
#1 - download the 4977 xecutor bios off the ftp site listed above and extract the files
#2 - off the same ftp site in the dir /XBOX/bios/xecuter/flashbios_cromwell get the file "xecuter_flashbios.zip" and extract the dummyfile.exe
#3 - get xecutor2 bios maker (x2bm) off this site (w00t for hosting it) and extract
#4 - load up x2bm and click import. you want the X2_4977.bin file in all four banks.
#5 - click save and save it as bios.bin; im fairly sure it automatically makes it a bin, so dont put a ".bin" in the file name.
#6 - have the dummyfile.exe make you a 100mb file and put it somewhere you can remember (desktop is fine  )
#7a - if you have windows xp just burn the 2 files using the integrated cd burning software. make sure you close the session or whatever.
#7b - if you dont have winxp (lamer), use nero. have it burn a data cd, no multisession, disc at once and finalize. i recommend burning at 4x

Once you have the cd burned, load up cromwell (make sure the chip is enabled, flash in unprotected and im not sure if bank makes a difference but i had it on bank2) and pop in the cd. it'll read it and should flash and turn off. if you're still having problems, it might be media. this truly does make a difference. i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend verbatim cdrw's, preferrably 650mb and 4x. i had 4x tdk 700mb cdrws and they didnt read in my philips drive. hope this helps you guys. it took me 3 days and many many hours of reading forums and IRC to get mine to work.

If you're having trouble flashing your X2lite that came flashed with the Cromwell 1.8 bios, then PLEASE READ this and do not start anymore threads. Thanks!!!

Ok, here we go.

You'll know you installed your x2lite correctly when you boot up, and the DVD ROM ejects automatically and the LED flashes red once, then goes back to green. That's cromwell doing its thing.

First make sure you're using an RCA connecter. An RF, S-Video, or HDTV pack usually won't work with the Cromwell 1.8 bios. You'll get a blank screen with a slight wave.

*This is what an RCA connector looks like*

You should now see the Linux dashboard. This is what follows:

1. Download the OZXchip file (Get It Here). It will let you flash your chip with any bios you choose.

Now burn the the OZxchip.iso image to a CD/RW in nero.

**note** Its already in an ISO form so you don't need to create an ISO

Follow these steps when burning an image with nero:

Open Nero, click on "File", scroll down to "burn Image...", then locate your "ozxflashcd.iso" and select that file and click open. Now select the lowest possible write speed(2x if possible) then select the "disk at once" write method, then click the "write" button and let nero do it's job.

Now mark the CD/RW as disk 1 and set it to the side.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. You'll need X2MB (Get It Here) also so you can save your bios image as a 1024 bios bin, instead of a 256 bios bin. The read me that comes with OZXchip says use 256 bios, but dis-regard this. It MUST BE A 1024 bin bios.

Now run X2MB and click the "Image Size" button, click the "import" button.  A new window will open up, choose your up to date bios that you downloaded (try bios X2 4976.02 or X2 4976.02 Coloured). Continue to import the SAME bios to all four banks, until all banks are loaded with the bios. It should look like this when you start out:

user posted image

After you've imported the SAME bios to all banks, then click the save button, and save the bin as "bios.bin". It must be saved as "bios.bin"... all lowercase. If not... you're going nowhere. Now this bin should be a 1024k bios saved as "bios.bin".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next download UltraISO here.

Now you'll need to create an ISO for your bios. To do this you'll need to add your "bios.bin" (the 1024k bios bin you created with X2BM) to the ISO you're going to create. You will also need a "fluffing" file. This adds size to the ISO so the Cromwell bios can mount it. So you'll need to ad a zip file to the ISO.

I used Nero.exe, and converted to zip form using winzip and added it to the ISO. So now you should have "bios.bin" and "Nero.zip" in your directory. NOTE.... The "bios.bin should be listed on top of the "Nero.zip". Click the "save" Icon, and save the ISO and save it as "biosflash.iso"

Now you have an ISO bios file.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Burn this image to a CD/RW with Nero using these steps:

Open Nero, click on "File", scroll down to "burn Image...", then locate your "biosflash.iso" and select that file and click open. Now select the lowest possible write speed(2x if possible) then select the "disk at once" write method, then click the "write" button and let nero do it's job.

Take the CD/RW out Label it as disk two.

----------------------------------------------------------

Your almost done now.

Boot your Xbox into the Cromwell 1.8 Linux dash. The DVD ROM should auto eject. Put in disk one. WAIT UNTIL IT SAYS "Please Insert CD" before you close the drive. Looks like this:(thanks chris76rs for the pics)

user posted image

The code should execute, just follow the on screen messages. The drive will open by itself prompting for the bios disk. Load disk 2 and let the drive close by its self. It will then proceed in flashing your chip.

user posted image

Remember the DVD ROM will open and close by itself during the process. Do not manually close or open the drive or you have to start over.

If you're having problems with your DVD drive reading the CD/RW you may want to try this as a last resort. Thanks XDAWG!

First off Props to tester123 for this tutorial but for those who could not get it here is some help Ok here is what I had to do to get it to work. You will need a (pc) cd or dvd drive and follow this tutorial.

http://www.xbox-scen...es/swap-dvd.php

I tried for 3 days with several different types of media and got nowhere some people got better drives or their lens reads better that is why they are getting it to work and others are not. If you follow that tutorial you should get it to work mine did first time. On a side note you dont even need the power splitter to flash the bios just hook a (pc) cd or dvd drive up to the xbox ide cable and use the hard drive power supply you dont need the hard drive to flash the chip so you can use its power supply but you will need the power splitter to install evox because then of course you will need your hard drive. hope this helps out.

Ok.... I need some help.  I've read through every single page/post on this forum and I can't find the answer.

I have an X2Lite 2.3b+.  I installed it, all 3 LED's light up, etc.... everything appears to be fine.  I power on the XBox and I get the screen for the Cromwell BIOS with a prompt that says, "Please insert CD - Flashing Mode".

I have the Thomson-DVD Drive (POS).

I created an ISO image that has the bios.bin file on it aswell as a 100mb dummy.bin on it using UltraISO and am burning the image with Alcohol 120%.  I've tried the following media and all it does is reads it for a few seconds then ejects it:

TDK 74min CD-R
Memorex 52x CD-R
Philips 40x CD-R
Memorex 40x Music-CD CD-R
Memorex 4x CDRW

Am I missing something here?  5 different types of media and all it does is read for several seconds then ejects?  Did it flash?

Thanks for the help.

Well, no, I'm asking how to use the multi-bios functionality of the x2lite.

In your instructions, you say "Continue to import the SAME bios to the other banks until they're all loaded with the same bios.", but then in your image, the top 2 banks are 4976.02, and the bottom two banks have EvoX D.6.  Is this how it should be done to have 2 different bioses?

Maybe I should just get the X2BM software first, it probably covers this.

I was using that image as an example... that's what  it should look LIKE when all banks are filled. Why don't you test it and see. Try both ways... using all the same BIOS's or different ones. After all that's what this hobby is all about... testing.  smile.gif

This tutorial is to get you up a running, that's all. Once you get your chip flashed with a different bios(using this method) you can install EvoX... where you can EASILY flash the chip with ANY COMBINATION OF BIOS's you want. I hope this helps.

?  I'm confused with your question... the RCA connectors are used to connect your Xbox to your television/display.  They come standard with North American Xboxes (not sure about elsewhere).

Ok, here we go.

First make sure you're using an RCA connecter. An RF, S-Video, or HDTV pack usually won't work with the Cromwell 1.8 bios.  You'll get a blank screen with a slight wave.

This is what i am talking about, where does the chip come in...is this after you install the chip fully........do you flash it before or after the installation

Yes, you use this tutorial after you've modded your Xbox with an X2lite. You'll know it's successfully modded, when you boot your Xbox and the DVD ROM automatically ejects. You'll need to hook your Xbox up to your TV using an RCA connector that comes standard with your Xbox. If you don't you'll get an blank screen with a slight wave.

Now you'll need to create an ISO for your bios. To do this you'll need to add your "bios.bin" to the ISO you're going to create. You will also need a "fluffing" file. This adds size to the ISO so the Cromwell bios can mount it. So you'll need to ad a zip file to the ISO. I used Nero.exe, and put it in zip form and added it to the ISO. So now you should have "bios.bin" and "Nero.zip" in your directory. NOTE.... The "bios.bin should be listed on top of the "Nero.zip". Create the ISO and save it as "biosflash.iso"

Now you have an ISO bios file.

im confused about this part so far..i made the bios.bin , then now i made a winrar.zip named "nero.exe", should there be anytihng in it???
Any help would be great
thanks

i think what he is saying is u need a dummy file on your cd, not sure why he said to use nero.exe, but i think that anything with a size around that of nero.exe and an alphabetic listing after bios.bin should work.. correct??

and shit.. i thought i should tone down my signature as it is big.. but punisher, u take the cake..

I think Punchy is saying he took his Nero Setup file(Nero.exe)and put it in a Zip file(Nero.zip). Then he put the Zip file on the CD to take up space on the disk. Suposedly the Xbox dont like CDs with only a few KB.

Hope That Helps,

Do not use MEMOREX CD/RW's they're crap! (my opinion) Use imation or fujifilm. I've never had any trouble with those two brands.

Just change the brand of CD/RW to imation or fujifilm.

Yes, the DVD drive is suppossed eject, then the LED is supposed to flash red once then stop. Thats the cromwell bios doing its thing.

Just change CD/RW's and you'll kick this in it's @ss!!! Good Luck....  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

No, you need to add an X-ecuter bios or any other bios that will let you run un-signed code.

You can find this bios at the "usual places".  ph34r.gif

Do I supose to get bunch of error on unlocking_device
and I got lots of error message like
"kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k binfnt-7175, error = 8?"

does this related with d0 point(i'm using alternative d0 point)

I flashed several times, but nothing change my boot up screen
in the end of the flash processes, i can see the flash complete message but
after the credit screen, i saw some fail message but have no idea what has failed

it shows up the "Please insert CD " in Linux Clean BIOS 1.8 every time.....
Can't get Flashed.........

Maybe you should try to get this topic pinned to the top, or post it in the FAQ forum, or maybe submit a tutorial.

Just to confirm, X2BM says for x2lite, put Bios A in banks 0 and 1, and Bios B in banks 2 and 3.  I did this, and can now select the bios with the switch.

Hey everybody.

I am totally at my wits end. I have been trying every combination of CDRW/burning program/file options I could find, and can't think of anything else. I didn't realize that getting a medical degree would be easier than flashing my Xbox!

I am trying to burn ozxflash to my Xbox, but I keep getting the dreaded 'loading linuxboot.cfg...unable to find halting' error.

Here's what I am doing:

Using Sony CDRW 650MB
Doing a full erase on the CDRW using CDRWIN
Download OZXFlash
Open the ISO image
Adding the bios
Adding padded files to make the image 609MB
Creating a new image in xISO.
Burning in Nero - UDF/ISO
Finalizing disc
Disc at once
Burning slowest speed

I have tried first thing in the morning when the chip is cool, last thing in the evening when the chip is hot. I just can't think of (or find) anything else.

Please help!

Thanks very much,

Robert--

Read the tutorial again. laugh.gif

You need to put OZXflash.iso on one CD/RW.

Then put your 1024k bios bin and padding file on another disk.

Also when using nero, you should follow these steps.

Open Nero, click on "File", scroll down to "burn Image...", then locate your "ozxflashcd.iso" and select that file and click open. Now select the lowest possible write speed(2x if possible) then select the "disk at once" write method, then click the "write" button and let nero do it's job. Hope this helps.

I think the reason this thread has come up alot is that there are bad instructions that come with the OZflash program. When I downloaded the program the first thing that i did was read the included X2 lite cromwell.text. This told me to burn the OZFlashcd.iso which is the right thing to do. Then it told me to make a data CD of the bios.bin. I tried this with several different Bios's and none of them worked. I searched until I found this thread telling me to make my bios.bin into an iso file. Well I got nothing to lose so let's try it. VIOLA! it works. Note to all those trying to do this the instructions are wrong. Also I Use the memorex CD-RW with no prob. Some one please pin this thread. With bad instructions given out with the program being downloaded there is sure to be alot more posts about this.

ok, I got a new XBOX chipped with an x-ecutor 2 lite today, installed by a shop that does this sort of thing all the time, they've chipped my DC, GCN, and PS2, never had any problems with them..

but this linux screen doesn't come up on mine, just the standard xbox dashboard, the guy demonstrated the disc booting a dvd-r so I know the chip is in, it also starts up with x-ecutor 2 or whatever under the green logo in the beginning, but it doesn't do the "You'll know you installed your x2lite correctly when you boot up, and the DVD ROM ejects automatically and the LED flashes red once, then goes back to green. That's cromwell doing its thing."..

does this mean the cromwell bios are not flashed on my chip?

Do I do this myself? or do I go back to the shop and beat some ass..

This thread has been VERY helpful, I'd have no problems doing this if my xbox ejected automatically and the LED flashed red once, then went back to green, and showed the linux screen...

If u see my previous post it shows the error im getting. OK u asked step ny step how im making my second iso. Ok 1st i loaded X2BM and filled the 4 banks with 4976.02 ,saved the 1024k file as bios.bin, loaded simpleiso and created ISO with Bios.bin and Fluff file (nero), named file bios flash.iso.Loaded Nero ,file ,burn image, selected biosflash.iso, selected disc at once and burn speed of 2x. i have used various media Tdk 80min cdrw, digital media cdrw, verbatim dvd+rw,imation dvd+rw, and phillips cd-rs. It must be that ive made an incorrect ISO of the bios. if u could possibly post a iso that would be sweet. well another day goes by and still no evox

things like that i need to know.

How big is the cromwell BIOS?  Is it possible to store the cromwell on the latter two Banks and store something like X2 on the former 2?  Id liek to run my xbox as a unix box.

Oh, and I was wondering what are the best bioses to flash.  I want to do two just in case one fails.

I've heard people using 2 versions of X2 (4976.02 and 4974), while others use 4976.02 and eVOX D.6 (Eject Fix).  Which ones do you guys prefer? And what experiences?

cortXbomb you got lucky and the guy who did your install put a new bios on it already. You should probably reflash it to make it up to date. If your unsure how to do so trry and find slayers's installer 2.1 . Makes the setup easy. Good luck

so I can just install evox without having to reflash anything?

When I put in the evox cdrw it can't read it, and I'm sure the Xbox can read the cdrw I'm using as I tested  it with a music track and succesfully played it in the Xbox..

Maybe I'm just screwing up the evox installation, or maybe it's windows, I'll try it on a different PC and start all over again (right now I'm emulating windows on a mac)..

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for all your help. I really appreciate the advice given on this forum to get the newbies up and running!

Alas, I am still not able to get my OZXFlash disc working.

I have been working with two different CDRW formats, the Sony CDRW650, and the TDK CDRW80. Both of these CD's appear to be on the 'recommended list.'

I am using the original OZX 1.2 image downloaded from the site. I have tried writing the image directly to a disc fresh off of the spindles, as well as preparing the discs by erasing them first (by doing a full-erase) in CDRWIN.

I am burning the image in Nero. The way I do this is to launch Nero, go to the file tab and select 'burn image.' From there, I select the image I want to burn (OZXFlashcd.iso), select 'finalize CD,' set the write speed at 2x (the slowest available in Nero), and select 'track-at-once. I have also tried 'disc-at-once,' but there was no difference in the results.

On the Sony discs, I get the 'linuxboot.cfg file not found..halting'. The Xbox does not recognize the TDK discs at all, and stays on the 'Waiting for CD' message.

I have a v1.0 Xbox and a Thompson drive. The Xbox runs games fine when the chip is removed. But I am unable to find any disc/burning combo to work to flash the chip.

I have tons of experience in hacking. I have hacked my TiVo, my ReplayTV, my Nomad Jukebox, my Mac and my PC's. But nothing has been as difficult as this.

Does anybody have any other thoughts? Is there a spell I can cast or something to make this work? We're on day 6 and counting...

Thanks a lot!

I installed everything correctly, the Bios flashed, and I saw the Blue xbox logo. Only problem now is that everytime I start up my xbox, theres just a black screen, nothing on it. Why is this happening? I tried to do the evox dash on DVD-R and it wont bring up anything on the screen. I can see a faint grey screen, but nothing else. what do I do?

tester said this in his tutorial.  Make sure you use the regular A/V cable.  Dont use s-video or anything else.  that may hopefully be what your set up was.

RE-posting of my earlier question:

I noticed you used ultraISO to make an ISO image. Now, I thought the XBOX can only read xISO. So wouldnt you need to make an xISO image instead?  Or does UltraISO make xISOs?

Thanks.  can anyone help out?

Never use xISO... IT IS VERY BUGGY!

Yes, UltraISO will create working ISO image.

Craxtion is the BEST ISO image creator, but it's kind of hard to find.

Yes people are still making threads about this, what's sad is when this thread is almost at the top and people still post.....

Anyhow I prefer the Pro but for those of you with the Lite this is a nice tutorial...

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I created the 1st disc like it said, anyway it starts running linux and stops at "freeing kernal memory" or something to that effect.  What could be causing this.  Using Fujifilm cdrw, burnt at 2x, disc at once.  Jumper is off the flash protection.  Forgot to mention Lite 2.

I was talking about the xbox iso image that only xbox can read.  I heard you have to make an .xiso image in order for the dvd to be read.

Anyways, I'm getting craxion right now.  Thanks.

Make an ISO.

xISO is reffered to as an app to create ISO's for Xbox.

I can't believe they haven't pinned this yet. tester123 is damm near famous for this thread. I go to other forums where this question is asked and almost every time the response is a link to this thread. Not that pinning this thread would help much but maybe someone would read it before posting.

Hi Again,

I still haven't solved the problem with flashing my Xecuter2 lite on my 1.0 Thompson drive Xbox, so I'm trying one more time....

I have been working primarily with two different CDRW formats, the Sony CDRW650, and the TDK CDRW80. Both of these CD's appear to be on the 'recommended list.'  I have also tried Samsung, Imation, and Verbatim CDRW's, but none of those have worked either.

I am using the original OZXFlash 1.2 image downloaded from the site. I have tried writing the image directly to a disc fresh off of the spindles, as well as preparing the discs by erasing them first (by doing a full-erase) in CDRWIN.

I am burning the image in Nero. The way I do this is to launch Nero, go to the file tab and select 'burn image.' On the Sony discs, I get the 'linuxboot.cfg file not found..halting'. The Xbox does not recognize the TDK discs at all, and stays on the 'Waiting for CD' message.

Also, I have burned music onto my Sony discs, and the Xbox plays it fine (when the chip is disabled, of course)

I have a v1.0 Xbox and a Thompson drive. The Xbox runs games fine when the chip is removed. But I am unable to find any disc/burning combo to work to flash the chip.

If anybody can solve this problem, I would worship you for all eternity!

Thanks,

Robert--

I just modded my X-box ver1.1 with X2Lite and when I boot up the DVD ejects like it should and I get the Xbox Logo with nothing underneath not even the M$ word or on top (No Linux blue screen) snd then it takes me to a screen that says "Please call M $ for Support"

Does this mean that the X2Lite did not come pre-flashedw ith the Cromwell 1.8? or am I doing something wrong?

By the way, I tried the Bios jumper removed and in place and get the same thing.  The jumper is on for On/off and for Bios.

If it's not pre-flashed, can I still flash it with whatever...

Please help...Thank You very much blink.gif

yes....it even boots up normally if I remove the ON/OFF jumper

For the record, because I read it earlier, when the modchip is installed and your looking at it....should the three jumpers be pointing toward the processor or towards the metal mesh wall?

THanks again...

I am no longer a newbie!  thanks to this thread and many others, I got my mod up and running.

Only thing is I used the X2 Lite PLUS...and it was a nightmare....I will return with a review soon.  Oh yeah and clarifications on my earlier questions about ISO and XISOs...

Use UltraISO to burn "Linux bootable disks" - that is ultraISO creates isos that can be boot outside of the Xbox Interface.  This format is the regular iso images that, once burned, can be read by the PC.

Use xISO to burn XBOX bootable disks - xISO (the program that tester123 hated so much) burns iso's that the XBOX can boot from (within EVOX) if it includes the default.xbe file.  This format, onced burned, is only accessible to the XBOX, pcs cant detect it.

I had a similar problem to yours.  First check if you have the hard drive connected.  It may be that your d0 and connectors are not aligned properly.

Oh yeah, I have an idea to give easier access to the d0 solder point.  I will be posting diagrams of it if someone is willing build it.  It is basically a medium that goes between the d0 and wire or the pogo pin.  It spreads the contact surface of the d0 to make it more accessible.

All you need is a small pin (conductor) with a needle point and some double sided tape.

ok, I got a new XBOX chipped with an x-ecutor 2 lite today, installed by a shop that does this sort of thing all the time, they've chipped my DC, GCN, and PS2, never had any problems with them..

but this linux screen doesn't come up on mine, just the standard xbox dashboard, the guy demonstrated the disc booting a dvd-r so I know the chip is in, it also starts up with x-ecutor 2 or whatever under the green logo in the beginning, but it doesn't do the "You'll know you installed your x2lite correctly when you boot up, and the DVD ROM ejects automatically and the LED flashes red once, then goes back to green. That's cromwell doing its thing."..

does this mean the cromwell bios are not flashed on my chip?

Do I do this myself? or do I go back to the shop and beat some ass..

This thread has been VERY helpful, I'd have no problems doing this if my xbox ejected automatically and the LED flashed red once, then went back to green, and showed the linux screen...

mmmm well use a bit of common sene

machine boots up with XECUTER2 - plays DVDR's

what does that tell you ? smile.gif

I was working on my x2l last night, and everything seemed to install correctly  c1.8 comes up not sure  about the leds  but the tray opened . I  then got oxflash to boot and tried insttall ing the bios.bin but it was only 256k and my xbox still had c1.8 on it  when powerd back on, should my x2l have been flashed with the 256 or would the c1.8 stay on there until i convert it with  x2mb.

thanks Evil1

Yeah, you need a 1024k bios. OZXchip will say it's flashing it, but it's not.

Also make sure you take off your flash protection jumper.

I now know after doing some more reading that I have an Xbox 1.1 manfactured on 11/24/02. The LPC holes on the mobo are empty so I thought this would be a piece of cake (pogo pins would fit right in)....I now think that it's worse to have them empty rather than filled due to LPC points not making a good connection (that's my assumption)

I went through the Pogo pin install Diagram and w/X2L many times...and removed the BIOS jumper (also left it on) and I get the 2X green flash and then red/green. I removed the ON/OFF Jumper and the Xbox boots normally with M $ logo underneath green Xbox logo so I know part of it works.

Here are some questions:

1. What if the X2L did not come pre-flashed with the C1.8, would I get the X2 green flash then red/green?

2. If in fact I'm not getting a good connection on one of my LPC points, what can I do about it? I mean I have tried everything, but since the LPC holes are empty and the Pogo pins fit in, there's not much movement...I did what I could. I know I'm getting D0 due the pre-install of the X2L test (turn on after pogo pin install with just the black & read connector plugged into the X2Lite and the Xbox should flash green 2X and go red/green.

3. If I should try to scrap the Pogo Pin Install and do the regular install with soldering, What should I buy in terms of Soldering gun, solder, and etc... and is it something I can pick up at Radio Shack?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I've spent way too many days on this...

Thank You Very Much...

Im using x2lite+(pain in the ass) for me to get lined up right. Well after about 50 tries and 2 days got it going but now I cant get my thompson v.1.0 xbox to read my brand new memorex cd-rws and wont read my optodisc dvd-rws so I dont know what to do now? Should I try to put more zipfiles in the iso because I boot up to lenix cromwell 1.8 open the drive put cd in it sounds like it tries to read it 2x then stops. Im hoping I can get this done without having to do a dvd-rom install because my x2lite+ chip I dont even want to think about going throught what I went through the last 2 days if it comes loose I am just going to solder it. I also will be having 100 ritek dvd-r disk coming this week but dont want to waste 2 of them on these 2 small files.any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

The first problem I had was that I was burning the OZXflash iso wrong so I switched methods and put it on Fujifilm cdrw and it worked.  Problem solved and fixed and it ran.  But stupid me forgot to burn the biosimage the same way so Linux and OZXflash did its second disk request thing and I managed to burn my bios the correct way but on a diff cd (of which I do not know works, it was a khypermedia cdrw). I stuck it in just in time before the 4th attempt and it went to read it.  Then it says error ":le 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00"

"00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00" just like the previous poster's results.  I rebooted, but now the screen is stuck on "starting linux" and no go after that.   EDIT: Many attempts later, it gets past "starting linux" but halts after reiterating some commands like "freeing unused kernal memory: 112k freed" or "kernal panic: killed int." i even got a scrolling error once.  I have no idea what to do now.   Others have posted similar problems, but I don't think it has been answered.  Please help.  Thanks.  EDIT 2:   I tried booting evox off a seperate disk but it wont read it; I'm thinking cuz of the Cromwell already on there.  Is my situation "a bad flash" and if so what can I do to resolve it without having to buy the programmer or Pro or new chip. EDIT 3 Success finally and I will post what I have found and done in order to fix this for everyone else that did fix it but never posted results only for a newb like me to find it the hard way.  So I pulled the BIOS jumper off and reran it.  Linux booted all the way like normal and I went through the regular procedure of second disk and what not.  It went through without a hitch this time.  So in summary, if you messed up the first time and Linux hangs up and it seems like Linux is bootting up all nasty-like.  Take the BIOS jumper off and reflash.  It was that simple.  Ok now you can criticize cuz I'll leave this post alone blink.gif .  I'm tired.  Thanks to everyone still.

So I wanted to give a little something back to this forum for all of the help it has given me.

For all of those out there who have been having problems flashing their X2 lites and cannot get past the "Loading linuxboot.cfg from CDROM....Unable to find, haulting" Listen up.  It is my personal opinion that there are Xboxes out there that will not read CDRW's.  After spending hours upon end, burning cdrw after cdrw, I just could not get the Xbix to recoginze my CDRW.  No matter how many different CDRW brands I tried or software, hardware or fluffing, nothing would work.  Finally I thought, if the Xbox will not recognize the CD why not try a different DVD drive.  I took out my DVD drive from my computer. (not sure if a CD drive will work, but would imagine so) I went to Radio Shack and bought a power splitter to split the power from the hard drive, plugged in the IDE cable from the Xbox drive into my DVD drive and I was able to load the bios on my first attempt with a Sony CDRW.

So if you are having troubles, give this a shot.

Thanks again Chris and Tester for your info. beerchug.gif

Well, I finally got it too...

The problem is not with the media.. The problem is with the drive..

I had several different copies of disk1(ozx) and disk2(bios) and all of the disk1's work, but none of the disk2's worked, no matter what brand I was using.

I gave up and went out and bought a dvd+rw drive and plugged that into the ide cable and had the power splitter from the hdd to the dvd+rw drive..

First time through, no problems, with my original disk1 and disk2 too..

Before using the new drive, I was reaching various sticking points, sometimes it would lock up before the second disk, others it would make it to the second disk and then die..

I guess for those who cant use another drive to flash the bios, maybe a x2l programmer is in order..

Now its time to get the 120gb drive in there, woo hoo!

Ok, I modded this guys 2 systems and he left for home with them.
He says, as we where getting when installed, the screen is still getting White spots on it allover, like the image is distorting. This is when booting using the Cromwell bios.

I have read this.
"IMPORTANT NOTE: All Consoles should have the cover installed when booting Cromwell to ensure air flow is maintained. Boot problems and video fragmentation have been identified when the console heats up if the cover is not fitted!"

And even with the top on it is still happening, is this normal? He thinks the board or install may be messed up, but I think it's just the Bios. Does anyone know for sure?

I dont know if he got EvoX on yet or not, so for now I am assuming he still only has the Cromwell Bios.

ok, So I have followed all the directions perfectly. I installed the x2lite, removed the jumper so I could flash it. made the ozxflashcd.iso about 20 different times with both sony, Memorex AND Imation CD-RWs and burned them exactly as described at 2x with no buffers, 20 MB buffers, 50 MB buffers, and 250 MB buffers. I have found that the furthest I can get with these is to the "Loading linixboot.cfg from CDROM.....unable to locate, halting" screen right after I insert the disk. I have also added the updates, so I have the latest version of nero. Any thoughts would be helpful. I will try anything, I still have a few more of each CD-RW type. heh

No the pc drive wont open automacticly you will have to manually open it and what I did was just shut them both at the same time then when it ask for disk 2 the xbox drive opened again then I manually opened the pc drive and shut them both again at the same time and it completed then after I was done I hooked hard drive power back up then rebooted to see the x2 logo replace the MS now I have a power spliter and I keep a (pc)dvd drive hooked up all the time its a lot better. Hope this helps

Your problem is probably your xbox dvd drive is picky and wont read it no matter what kind of cdrw you use. Try to do what I explained a couple post up from this one, it should work I dont think the reason that you used a different program than ultra iso is you problem.

Me again

Tell me if I'm wrong but is there a mistake in the tutorial.  It says to burn the bios file as an iso, but if you do that you get that cannot mount media error as shown above.

However if you burn the bios.bin file as it is with a dummy file it works a treat.

Yes worked 1st time - Just burnt a disc with a bios.bin file and a zip file just to beef the size up.

Although I now have another prob - When doing a 2nd chip I forgot to take the flash protection jumper off and now when I try to re-flash it I get this error.

Bad EIP Value

Kernel Panic: AICE Killing Interrupt handler!

This is on the 1st disc as the screen goes black and its running through its lists.

Beto777.......

Some CD Writers can not handle burning in DAO mode.

You can check this in Nero by going into CD-Recorder->Choose CD-Recorder to be checked.

This will tell you if DOA is supported by your burner.  If not you may be able to get a firmware update.

You are closing the disc after you have burnt them arent you???

Linuxboot.cfg problems:

My hardware:  Xbox 1.0, Thompson drive, memorex 650 cdrw, 2x burn speed, Nero: ISO, Disc-at-once, Finalize, file to be burned: "ozxflashcd.iso".  I've tried using a PC DVD drive swap trick and even using a DVD-R.  The PC-DVD drive says, "not found, halting".  The Xbox drive says "Waiting for disc".

Also, I've tried two different Thompson drives.

Why can't my xbox read linuxboot.cfg???  Do I need to use "Disc-At-Once/96"  ???

PLEASE help!!!
Thank you!!!

Ok, now in a desparate attempt to get this f*cking linuxboot.cfg read, I extracted the ozxflashcd.iso into it's separate files and burned them on a 650 CDRW.  Result?  It finally got read!

But when it gets to file "initrd", it reboots back to Linux, ejects the drive, and says, "waiting for disc".  Also, small, white dots appear on the screen around the 4 icons at the bottom.

Any ideas what to do?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

wink.gif Mattsuk thank you for the repond.
I have check my Nero and yes it is supporting to writte in a DAO mode.
This is what it supports:
Medium types: CD-R/RW
Maximum Speed: 12X(1800KB/s)
Disk-At-Once: DAO/16, DAO/96
Frimware revision: C2.8
CD text: in Disk-At-Once/96
Overburn: supported
Recorder buffer: 4096KB
Buffer underrun protection: Not supported

Now about if I am closing the discs after have them burt, I am not sure what is this?, I just let the burning to finish and that's it...How can I make sure about your question?

Now let tell you that Besides Nero I have used Roxio easy CD creator, I have burnt the files again using it at 2X speed and at DAO option selected. But still have my xbox not able to read my burnt CDs, after insert the first CD (ozxflascd.iso), it just stops itself displaying "waiting for drive". The DVD drive of the console tries to read by two attemps but then it doesn't do anything else...

Let me know if more recommendations...

It might be because I am creating the bios.bin in virtual pc and when i transfer it back into the mac environment it is somehow screwed up. Does anyone have any ideas. I have fixed the problem. The prob was that i was creating the iso wrong, to fix it i went into the settings of the iso and chaned it from joilet to UDF, after that it worked just fine. cool.gif  cool.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

Did all that and it hung on the second disk forever. I turned off machine and now the x2pro is toast. Wont boot. now what!? How do I get back to Cromwell, or is there another way? Oh yeah and my reason for going this route is that my programmer wont work. Tried without cable, etc. no luck!  Help! Before I throw this bastard out the window!

No, you'll have to flash your bios with an external bios or flash it from the EvoX dash. Heres a thread that will explain how to flash your chip from the EvoX menu. Good Luck..

You're either going to have to send it to some one to flash it for you(hot swap).

Ok, I followed this turtorial, and flashed the x2lite. However, when I turn my xbox on, I still get the 1.8 screen. I removed the jumper, but I still get MS underneath the xbox logo. I have a 1.1 xbox, I checked all my connections and are very solid. Anyone know what I could be doing wrong? thanks.

Update: Seems like Larry and I both share the same problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

sad.gif  wink.gif To Tester123, please help: I have attached a PC DVD drive to my xbox in order to program the chip, (since my xbox drive did not read my CD/RW disks), but there is one error while executing the first CD (Ozxflashcd.iso), it shows the following while running:
hda: read-intr: status 0x51 (drive ready seekcomplete error)
hda: read-intr: error 0x04 (drive status error)

however it does not stop and continues by asking for the bios.bin file (second CD), I placed that CD and everything went smooth, (it showed the falshing procedure with out any error). It finilized displaying: "Bios flashing complete remove CD and this program will automatically shutdown"

but once I turn the console back on again, It displays the exact same screen like the begining, where says "HDD first sector not found" and then asks to insert a CD".
Seeming like my flashing procedure did not do anything, and I think is because of the error described above...

Please help???

I followed the instructions flashed 4976.02 BIOS and everything looked like it worked. Bootup to a splashscreen that says "XBOX EXECUTER2". However it will not play homebrews, just says disc not recognised, originals play fine. Whats going on? Also for anyone having problems getting the first ozxflash disc to run, my xbox would lockup until I removed the BIOS jumper then loaded first time, dont know why but worth a try. Also it seemed silly to make an iso of the bios and then burn it, cant you just burn the file as a data disc?

thanks

Newb here, hate to ask, but i have just soldered a X2 lite with the switches. I booted up the Xbox to the Linux cromwell bios, used the exact directions listed here. But after the flash, where it says it will reboot on its own, it didnt restart (Not sure if its supposed to). So i just started up the xbox and it went back to the linux bios. Now i have read several posts stating im supposed to pull the flash protection jumper off, some say leave it on. Which is it? Thanks for the help

(Update) With the flash protecter off, the linux bios loads, asks for the flash cd, loads a bit, then gets to the Loading Linux text, then freezes there. Any answers would be good.

Well everyone , after stewing over this problem for a day using testers tutorial ( 4 different CD-RW media , 30 attemps for burning the iso files ) , I finally flashed my X2 lite with the Ozchip method.

For anyone interested on how it all came together , here it is.

Xbox v1.1
Phillips Drive.

Downloaded the Ozxchip File. As it was an iso , burned to a Imation CD-RW using Nero . Brurned at 4 x speed with disc at once option with finalise CD checked.

Tried in Xbox and was fine.

For the bios.bin file , ( this is after numerous other attempts ) , I simply copied the bios.bin file to a normal TDK CDR using Easy CD Creator's Direct CD Method . No padding files , just the 1024k 4976.02 bios. Not iso format , just the standard bin file that was created with X2BM.

Loaded the first disc that had allway done its job , and inserted the CDR when requested , not really expecting to much , but to my suprise it went thru and flashed the X2's Bios.

I guess this may help those who are getting past the first CD stage  blink.gif

what is this "fluffing" or "padding" of files.  It says in the instruction that u need to do this for cd2 but i dont understand what it is or how to do it, and the last post says u dont even need to do this.

UPDATE  =  i just read the whole thing and i know what it is now

and if i added a second cd drive instead of dvd would that still work

Allright....someone please help me out......here is the situation.

I bought a X2 Lite+ ......I installed the chip....got it aligned and working on the second try  smile.gif  I was pretty happy since I have never installed a mod chip before.

Anyways...I turned on the box...Cromwell loaded up....then I proceded to make CD1 and CD2 to flash the BIOS.

I actually got through the whole cd process...everything seemed to work correctly.

I turn the Xbox on again...and there it is...the damn Cromwelll thing....what am I doing wrong?

Right now I have all the jumper things on the wires...do I need to take one off?  If so...why does the flashing process seem like it worked ok.  I am a bit confused.

Please let me know.  Like I said...the chip is  a X2 Lite+

Thanks for any replies.

Howdy, this is my first post, so be easy on me.
First,
make sure your flash protection jumper is off on the X2lite. This was my problem. It's the jumper on the end closest to the header with all the colored wires. Number 1 on this pic,

   http://users.belgaco...ls/xs-dia02.gif

 Second,
I could only get Imation CDRWs to work, but after trying a few times Sony worked also.
  Hope this helps.

After trying just about everything! I disabled 'Smart Burn' in Nero. used 2 different [Erased] CDRWs (One Memorex 650mb, one Verbatim 650mb) and re-wrote both the ozxflash cd, and my bios.bin ISO (with 190meg buffer zip). Anyways if you want to read more about how i fixed it i posted a well documented solution to my problem http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=62350&hl=linuxboot. I hope that this post will help out a few ppl! Bump this post with success stories.

Ahhh success!!! I got the chip flashed.  I didn't have the jumper pulled.  I did that and it worked.

Here is the problem:

If you have the jumper in place...the software seems to flash the chip but it really doesnt.

If you remove the jumper...The one that says "Flash" next to it on the board....You will actually Flash the chip.

I made a copy of Burnout 2 and it worked.  I am very pleased.

P.S.  I am using Verbatim DVD+R media w/ a Samsung xbox drive

I followed tester123's directions to the T. When I finished flasing the evox bios to my x2.1L, I turned on the xbox and it loaded up the original xbox setup. And now no matter what i do i cant get it to load to the modchip at all. I even switched it to bank2 ( the one i didnt flash ) and nothing. Did i fry my modchip? I was also wondering if i were to get that x2 programer and would that be faster/safer way to flash my bios? Anywho hope you guys can help..

So - is it correct to assume that if I followed the tutorial to the letter, and got all the screens I was meant to including the thank you and the credits, but on reboot I still get the Linux boot screen - The media used was ok, as it read it.

What I didn't do was to remove the "flash" jumper. Would this be the problem as was mentioned above??

PS - Is it not possible for someone to post the contents of what should be on disc one and two somewhere so as peeps dont have to mess around with bios and iso's etc... Just a suggestion.

Then maybe a new tutorial would be easy to follow.

Solder chip in
Remove this Jumper
Insert Disc one
Insert Disc Two (Why cant they be on the same disc???)
Reboot

Yes, this is correct. If you did not remove the jumper, it will come back with Cromwell. Your media is fine, just remove the jumper and restart the process.

Just a quick question

i need to do this as i've just ordered the new x2 lite 2.1 chip. however i've currently got a x2lite chip running evox dashboard. i havent got broadband anymore so there will be no transferring to and from the xbox for a while

if i swap the new x2 2.1 with the old, will it not boot cos the evox dashboard is installed, or will it boot the linux cromwell dashboard thing regardless??

i.e when i turn it on for the first time after swapping it will it load up like on the picture in this tutorial??

thanks

I'm having the same problem as a couple of other people here have with it going through all the motions, and not actually flashing the BIOS. It gives me a read only error near the part where it's detecting different kinds of chips. I just got my xecutor 2.1 lite today, installed it and it boots fine, the switch on the front is set to unprotected, but it's still giving me that problem.

Cromwell also says it's flash protected on boot sad.gif

Here's some of the gunk that pops up near the message on OZXflash: "man 0x09 dev 0x00"

I think the .3 raincoat doesn't support the 2.1 or something. I don't know if any 2.1 owners have been successful yet. I know there is a .5 version available, but it's not packaged with OZXflash and I don't have a USB keyboard and mouse to test it using the command line.

I have been unable to get a cdrw to work so I did the swap-dvd thing that is at the bottom of the tutorial.  However, it says that I should not manually open or close the dvd drive, but you have to when you use a different dvd drive.  The XBOX one opens and closes by itself and then that is when I manually open and close the second dvd drive.  Everything seems to work except I don't see the XBOX logo with Xecuter under it and everytime I reboot it takes me back to the Cromwell bios screen.  How do flash the bios using the swap-dvd method?  Thanks.

on the bios CD I made a 0000 directory and added 500megs of random crap to pad the bios files out farther on the disc.  For the OZXflasher I left it unpadded.  Again, if you have any visual distortions, your system is over heating and it will not flash correctly

V1.0 box and x2.1 chip.  Install went ok, but when trying to flash, could not read CD.  Big surprise with Thomson drive.  The only correction i made, was to make sure NERO was in Disc-at-once, then bam, worked 1st try both discs, then evox.  Memorex 4x CDRW.

Sold that... wanted new after seeing the TechTV special.

Now I have a ver.1.1 console+successfully installed Xecutor 2.1 Lite + a Samsung SD-616t drive w/ SDG-605 firmware.  It plays all formats of discs.  So here's my dilemma... same as most.  I can't get the damn OZXflash.iso to boot.  In the past, I was able to use Nero to burn such iso's.  Now, this OZX iso just won't go... hell, won't even boot!  I need to know the exact settings for nero to work in this manner.  I'm at my wits end!

Thanx, nuff said

Hang in there guys and girls.  Keep trying different things.  There is nothing wrong with the 2.1's.  I finally got mine to flash.  The OZX method works!  I tried so many things, I can't figure out what i did right.  First off, I have only found ONE cdrw that works for me.  It's about 3 years old, I found it in a desk drawer.  Memorex max 4X.  I've tried, new memorex, sony, maxell, tdk, imation none work for me.  I have not found Verbatims locally, so I have not tried them.  I have a Thompson, by the way.  So my first dilema was...I have to keep erasing and burning the same disc.  I am laughing now!  The first OZX disc read, but something was wrong.
Try a different OZX download.  Try burning your bios as the bin form and booting that.  I'm pretty sure that's what worked for me.
So, here I sit with the bios flashed, Maxtor 160gb in hand, and can't figure out my FTP problems.  I've tried flashFXP and cuteFTP.  No luck!  I've tried two different EVOX dashes, both read.  One is for static IP.  The other was for DC**.  Pretty frustrating, just gotta keep trying different stuff.
I gotta say KUDOS to the posters that are here to help.  If not for you, we'ld be stifled.
Rock'on.
Any tips on Ftping are definitely appreciated.  I think I've read all the tuts.

Hello, I have a v 1.0 Xbox with Xecutor 2.1 LITE installed.   After the DVD drive opens my eject button flashes red, orange, red then back to green again. Any cause for concern? Everything seems to be working fine but just want to make sure. Also, I burned the ozflashcd.iso onto a CD-ROM using nero but when I pop the disk in the Linux bios just gets stuck at "Waiting for drive." Nothing else happens. I burned it on nero at 4x with the write method on "Disk-at-once" with "Finalize CD" checked and "Power-Burn" checked. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't think it's hanging.  Feel the box and listen....is the drive still spinning?  I think your not getting a read.  If the drive stops spinning, that's your prob.  If that's your prob try different media.

You reckon burning to CDR on a 50X CDRom drive hooked up should work ok. I got loads of CDR's but no CDRW and don't get out that much  tongue.gif.

I had a similar problem last night. We installed an X2l 2.1 on my friends box, and went to flash, when it started to flash, i noticed that the flash protect switch was still on, and i got an error on screen. So i shut it down, and when it booted, a blank screen with nothing. So i switched banks, and i got the Linux screen again, but when it would ask for the 1st disc, it would just freeze up and do nothing. After ejecting the disc, the screen said:

hda: LockedCorruptedEEprom

so only remedy i could do was set my good box to flash through evox, and take my chip out just before hitting Y, it flashed and all is well again.

Anyone ever get that error before? just curious i suppose

to tester123!!

I've done everything you said in your tutorial, but I used evox d6 bios!! so not everything ( btw I used another tutorial first, because I couldn't get on xbox-scene site, but looks the same)
on the end of my flashing I got 2 errors and now I don't have the final screen you showed with the big x and xecuter2 underneath, It still shows M$...

I've tried to run EvolutionX dashboard but no luck yet, used an iso file I downloaded from #xbins with the latest EvolutionX dashboard (= evolutionx_beta_v1.8.3752-Dummy-DHCP.iso) I burned it with Nero to 3 different cdrws ( Hp, Lead Data and HiSpace) but non worked!!!

What should I do now?
option 1: you'll help me, and you know what I did wrong
option 2: use the swap-dvd method? I don't have a dvd-reader could I use my cd-writer instead?
option 3: buy programmer

option 4: buy new mod-chip (NOT A CHANCE)

I can seem to get it to work if you guys ld help me i would really appreciate it.

First off let me say that the xbox dvd wont read any of my cdrw's so i had to use a pc dvd drive.

I get all the way to where it starts reading the second disk then it says "please ignore any insmod and/or modprobe errors."
then it gives  a bunch of insmod and modprobe errors and doesnt go any farther.

I hope you guys know what i am doing wrong because i have no clue.

Just so some of you know.  I was reading on 'the Screensavers" @ techtv about burning Linux based ISO's and read that Windows XP lacks (something to do with the DOS prompt not incorporated into XP or something) the ability to burn Linux Iso's properly.  This doesn't apply to XBox Linux stuff, but I thought it might be a start.  So, now I'm wondering what operating systems people are using that actually got their OZXflash iso and bios.bins to flash their chips?  Anyone used XP?  thanx

I used WinXP Home Edition.  I have a v 1.0 Xbox with a Thompson DVD.  At first I'd get stuck at the "Waiting for Drive" message after inserting my first disk.  I tried 3 different brands of CD-RW but it still wouldn't work.  But then I turned off "Power Burn in Nero and before I burned the files to the disk I did a "Physical Erase" through Nero.  After I did that I was able to flash my Xbox BIOS the first time without any problems.  Hope this helps.

I think I fucked up... I need your help guys

I modded my xbox just fine, now i went into the linux and did the instructions exactly as you said, the slowest my cdrw would burn was 8x so i did it at 8x and it looked as if i did it just fine. But after it powered down and i powered it back on it went into the regular xbox bios... so i was thinkng 'hmm thats odd' so i made sure the mod chip was on and i twas,  the light was on

so i switched to the second bios and still the same thing, only the MS one.

so now if i turn it on in on/off or bios 1/2 i only get the M$ bios sad.gif

i think it was on 'protected' when i flashed it, i did not notice this

did i just royally fuck up?

btw i have xgflash 2.1 and xbox 1.1

alsoi considered following the switching dvd-rom tutorial and switching the dvd readers and using one i bought instead of the xbox one if i am unable to fix my problem. I just have a few questions:
1. After i load the bios, would by regular xbox dvd-rom read the games after that or will i need to use the storebought one forever?
2. Will the store bought dvd-rom play real xbox games when the chip is turned off?
3. if i cant use the xbox dvd-rom anymore can i play online using a legit game and the chip turned off using my store bought dvd-rom?

I'm stuck! I've tried flashing my x2.1 lite using the Ozxchip method.  The linux screen comes up and I notice that it states "unable to read hdd first sector".  While the "disc 1" is in with "ozxflashcd.iso" seems to run through, i notice messages such as "unabvle to read partition table and it seems that it fails at unlocking the hdd.  But then it finishes and prompts for Disc 2.  Which I have placed the "X2 4977" bios.  It too seems to give messages such as"{ DriveReady SeekComplete Error}" I also see I/O errors here and there.  Once this is all finished and I reboot the Xbox, it just goes to the Linux screen again!  Any suggestions?  Does this sound like some sort of hdd problem?  And since I have tried to flash the chip already, have I screwed up my chances of flashing again without the programmer?  THanks!

Hi All,

I installed an Xecuter2.1 Lite modchip in my xbox 1.1 yesterday but i'm not sure if it works because the box is displaying very odd behaviour with the modchip enabled. It boots, the image on tv gets *very* distorted and the tray opens. That last fact is telling me that the cromwell bios is working, right? What I do not understand is why the image on screen is so distorted. I'm using the "advanced scart cable", could that be the problem? I read about distorted images because the xbox could be overheating with the lid off, but i don't think it is overheating, because the image is OK with the modchip disabled. Could it be that the cromwell bios is trying to display an NTSC image on my PAL tv-unit? Anyone?

Does anyone have any tips on getting past the bios disc when the cd does not mount.  So far I have collected these suggestions, but none of them work.  By the way, I am using my pc dvd drive to do load because the thompson won't read a thing.

Burn a data cd with the bios.bin and a fluffer file
Switch the IDE Cable while doing this
Use different media
Turn on/off the udf in roxio/nero
keep the xbox cool

...any other methods would help too

By the way, the error I am getting is:

I went through the entire process once and it seemed to work, but there was one error message while the chip was flashing about device locked. The program still finished and shut down the xbox as expected. I checked and I forgot to swith the chip to "Unprotect." Lo and behold when I started up the xbox again it still loaded the linux biox, only this time the picture was slightly distorted.

So I tried the process again and had the problem where is says "Starting Linux" and does nothing else.

Perhaps this will give someone insight into the problem.

Try putting the case on. Cromwell does require this or the picture will distort. also make sure you use the RCA connector like tester123 said right at the beginning, although I found my SCART connector worked too.

Great tips, but unfortunately this does not work with the Chameleon modchip.  I get the same "linuxboot.cfg" not found when trying to flash my Chameleon according to Xodus's instruction manual.  OZxFlash doesn't recognize the Chameleon and the flash craps out.  Guess I'll have to reflash using my buddy's PC parellel port.

make sure the jumper that protects bios flashing is off. download a new version of Ozxflash. Make sure the chip is in properly (although it it boots to cromwell then it is). Make sure you follow the burning procedure exactly. use a ready made .iso for the bios disc. make sure you've read everthing carefully.

Hello I have a problem w/ ozxflash.  I am running an x2.1 lite, and i this is my second time going through this, the first time w/ just an x2.0 worked fine.  Sometimes it find the linuxboot.cfg and loads partly but then stops when it says Loading Linux and it won't go into the rest of ozxflash.  When I do get it to go into ozxflash (by praying to Buddah or some other god) i put in my Bios CD and it says bios.bin found then it says don't turn the xbox off or do anything.  The poof right after about 10 seconds it says it's done and it doesn't open up the actual flash program.  and it doesn't flash whatsoever it's quite obsurd.  so when the xbox turns itself off the xbox clean bios 1.8 loads again.  I do this with the flash switch on unprotected.

anyone have any ideas.

thanks peace.

I think either your bios.bin is bad or your burn is bad.  I was having the same troubles.  Are you adding some fluff to your bios disc? is your bios file named bios.bin?
name your fluff "Dummy".

i was wondering if anyone can help me out.
i read this in the tutorial..

"Now run X2MB and click the "Image Size" button, click the "import" button. A new window will open up, choose your up to date bios that you downloaded (try bios X2 4976.02 or X2 4976.02 Coloured). Continue to import the SAME bios to all four banks, until all banks are loaded with the bios. It should look like this when you start out:"

where can i get a bios or download a bios "bios X2 4976.02 or X2 4976.02 Coloured"

if u can help me out, i really appreciate it..
thankx

I have some fluff files and bios.bin is on the cd.  I have a Thomson dvd drive and i am using a Samsung CDRW.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What i've found that works with the bios.bin disc, is that you need to have the following files on the disk:
BIOS.BIN       (capatalized)
DUMMY.DAT   (capatalized)

make the dummy file 10MB, create the iso with UltraISO, then when you burn it in Nero, just go to File--New, then select ISO cd, deselect Joliet, open the biosfile.iso or whatever you called it, set the burning speen to 4X, and select disc-at-once/96, i don't know if all versions of Nero have this option but it worked perfectly when i used it.  Oh and make sure you are using different media, i tried using Verbatim 650 CD-RW and it always had the same problem as Hendersonn, then i decided to use some TDK 650MB high speed data CD-RW i bought from CompUSA recently, and it worked like a charm.  Also Arnaro said

does this happen everytime? becuase when i would startup mine, it would take a few tries to get it past the "Starting Linux" screen.  Just keep turning it off then trying again.

hope all this helps   smile.gif
by the way i have a thomson drive so what worked for me should work for everyone else.

I burned it using udf format in stomp record now max and it worked... didnt even make it an iso just bios.bin and in udf format. I would try this for all of you who are having problems with the bios disc(iso).

can i point out that the new versions of x2 lite and pro have the Xecuter version of Cromwell - it will saay FlashBIOS (Cromwell) on the main screen and will look very clean with no graphics

all you need to do is create a no multisession / closed iso in nero (make sure you deselect JOLIET) - put the 1MB bios.bin and a 50MB dummy file on there - and burn to a CDRW.

simply put the disc in to the ejected tray and close the tray when prompted to put the disc in

everything should run really smooth for you - its not haard aat all

After having installed my X2 Lite, i was stumped what to do next as i thought that the chip came flash with a bios where you could just place in a game and it would run. Wrong!! I found out through Xteam Mods that i needed to obtain a bios. After finding one, Xteam Mods pointed me to this forum. Excellent stuff!!

Futher reading of this forum, i see that loads of people are having troubles and repeaditly ask the same questions over and over. My suggestion is to READ the very first message of this thread STEP-BY-STEP

The instructions that tester123 has given are going to be as easy as you can get. There is no other way of explaining it in any easier way.

I used, 1 cheap brand called "Princo CD-RW" for the OzXchip (CD 1) that worked fine and an ok ok brand called "Diamond Data CD-RW" for the bios (CD 2) and it worked fine as well. These CDs are about 4 years old and have been written over many times. I dont think CD-RW brand is the problem.

Just do testers123 tutorial STEP-BY-STEP and you should have no problems!!

1 thing though, if you have just installed you Xecutor 2 Lite in to your x-box and not bothered to look at the jumpers, this is why you are getting no where!! Tester123 does not mention it in the beginning of his tutorial but i think its logical..

REMOVE THE BIOS FLASH PROTECTION JUMPER-----BEFORE you try to flash your X2lite, that way you might get some where.

If you dont remove the jumper, it might look like OzXchip is flashing your bios but it aint and you will end up back at the "Cromwell Clean Bios 1.8" screen.

Now to people who ask for the bios.bin file, you really think that people are going to post the bios on a public forum like this?? Get real!!!

sad.gif I need help I installed my X2 Lite chip with pogo adaptor then got the linux clean bios screen but when looking at the screen of the faq of tester123 the words on the top looked different there all in yellow and say thomson  and how big the hardrive locked but on mine it saids

nReturn=0

Hdb T O S N D D
U D M A

Then at the bottom it has to set up then go's back to cd and wants to load linuxboot.cfg but every time i make a cd it either halts or saying loading linuxboot.cfg and thats it i cant even get past the 1 cd i tryed hooking up my pc cdrw drive and it does the same thing other people had good luck and got it to work it seems i've tryed everything to  get it to work my tdk 650 HS cd worked to put music on the xbox  so it shouldn't be the cd i tryed turning off smart burn but i looked everytime it try's to load and when i use udf/iso it doesn't say haulting but just stay's at loading linuxboot.cfg and below booting from the cdrom drive pops up letter E so cdrom E when i'm burning udf/iso but testers way i get  i u o stuff like that.

I just want someone to help get me past the 1 cd do you use mode 1 or mode 2 udf or udf/iso what stuff do you cheek and uncheak it seems iv'e tryed all suggestions people say to try the one tester has with the pictures open burn image disc at once it just doesn't work can some help go step by step leaving nothing out to try to fix my problem Thanks biggrin.gif

I was up until 5am messing around with it. I tried 3 different brands CD-RW's (HP, Plextor, Pacific Digital) and even a CD-R (TDK)

So I went out and bought a 10 Pack of Imation CD-RW's and tried it. The damn thing still didn't work.

Until... I turned off Burn-Proof

When I did that and re-burnt the CD-RW's it worked first try.

In Nero, just turn off the Burn-Proof. And pad the 2nd cd-rw with about 150MB of crap. This will keep the drive spinning long enough to read the file.

------------------------------------
To Turn off Burn-Proof in Nero 5.5.9.17 (and probably other versions)

Goto Recorder --> Choose Recorder
Then at the bottom there's an Option button
Click  the Option button and Un-Check the Burn-Proof option

That's it.
Then follow the instruction that Punchy laid out.
-------------------------------------

Thanks Punchy

I as well tried to get things going for approx 4 hrs.  Tried Memorex, Imation and Sonly CDRW and Memorex DVD+RW.  Nothing would work, I would always get media not found, supported, no cd in the drive, ect...

The first OZX cd would boot fine, so I knew the Memorex CDRWs worked.

Next I would make an ISO of bios.bin w/ additional files w/ ISO Maker 1.21, which I've never had a problem w/ before.

I finally got fed up and decided to try the UltraISO program that is in the very first post of this thread and sure as shit it booted and flashed the chip.

So for all of you having trouble thinking its the type of media ur using, stop and try different ISO creators before wasting $$$ on more cdrw or dvds.

here is my problem, i installed the x2 and flashed it via the istructions, but now when i try and boot the xbox with the bios enabled all it does is make 2 noises and the light turns red and green. When i pull the jumper then the regular x box bios loads up??

Does this mean i flashed the chip wrong, Now i cant boot from the ozx disk, all the xbox does is make a few noises and thats it. The cd rom does not open the screen is blue,

Do i need to now buy a programmer so i can manually program the chip becasue the x-box will not even boot it, so i cannot flash it via the xbox??

thanks

PLEASE HELP.  I have been working on this for 3 weeks.  I've read every FAQ & tutorial know to man.  I spoken with people at #xbins-help on IRC.  I still can't get my X-box to flash.

XBox v1.0 w/ a PHILIPS DVD Xecuter 2.2Pro, Header Pin Install (Tested w/

Multitester so I know the chip is in correctly.

I've tried burning the cd's on 2 different computers, w/ 5 types of CD-RW,

& 3 different Burners

The Computer is Compaq Presario 2.53G 512mb memory
Tried w/ a LITE-ON LTR-48246s CD-RW Drive 48x12x48 Max speed.
w/ Memorex CD-RW, Primaris CD-RW, TDK CD-RW, Sony CD-RW, & some other

brand.
> Also tried with the SONY DVD-+RW DRU-510A Drive

The Other Computer is a Sony VAIO 3.06g 1g memory & has a Sony DVD-R/CD-RW

Drive.
> With all the media listed above.

I have tried numerous methods.
Created the bios.bin 1024kb file using X2BM to create a 1 meg file filing

all 4 banks w/ the 256K 4977 bios.
(I even had a tech from a well known chip supplier upload the 1 meg bios.

bin file that he uses every day for installs & have tried it with that.)

In both cases, I have tried taking the bios.bin & a 100meg "fluffer" file

Open Nero (v 5.5.10.42)
Click on File, select "Burn File..."
A new window opens up titled "Open"
In that window, I find "biosbin.iso" where it's saved on my harddrive, I

select the file, & then click the button "Open".

Nero then brings up a new window entitled "Write CD" already opeded to the

"Burn" tab where I select the lowest possible write speed, change the "

Write Method" to "Disk at Once" (and I've tried it w/ the  "Disk at Once/

96"-that didn't work either)

Everytime w/ every media type, it says, Bios.bin not found.  Halting!

I've tried just burning the bios.bin & the fluffer file directly to a CD-

RW without the other steps & I seem to get a little further this way.  It

recognizes the CD & finds the bios.bin & then I get an message, "unknown

bios. Halting!"

I have DIPS#1-3 ON & #4(the protection one) OFF (Any other combination &

Cromwell Flash won't even load.

I have tried the Paralell port hook up using X2BM, but it constantly says,

"No Xecuter 2 Pro Found".  My bios set to have LPT port 378 & IRQ 7. (I've

tired both with ECP & PPL (or whatever the 2nd option was called, I don't remember).  I enabled the IRQ in the Device Manager in WinXP.  Still nothing.  I've checked & rechecked the connections.  Nothing.

I'm about ready to toss this thing out the window.  But then I'll have a window to fix too.  PLEASE, for the love of all that is good in the world, someone help!!!!!.

Thank you.
Hopelessly Frustrated,
-Valis (aka FinnyD)

HURRAY!.  I got it to work.  I don't recall which tutorial is was, but I've looked at the photo graph about 100 times & the picture has it exactly backwards.  In a fit of frustration, I changed the DIPS.  I put #4 (the protection) switch ON (which doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, but anyways-that's what worked)  AND DIPS 1-3 OFF.  & VIOLA!!!!  Flashed without so much as a single hiccup.

(& my dips are installed correctly, under the front eave of the xbox- so if you're thinking I was looking at the picture wrong, that's not it.  The picture has it backwards, at least backwards to what worked for me. )

Now onto the harddrive.

This is just a reply to all the previous users who said that they kept getting errors while trying to flash using the ozx cd.  It was not because of the media you where using.  It was because of the instability of the cromwell 1.8 bios due to overheating.  I have had every single error reported by every user.  I have had the kernel panic error, the freeing up kernel memory error, and even haven't been able to load the first ozx cd.  sometimes it didnt even ask for a cd when i booted it up.  Other times I got a screen that said I had a corrupted locked eeprom and my LED flashed red.  Then, I read somewhere that cromwell 1.8 has heat issues so I ran down to the basement and got a huge fan.  I opened up the xbox, and proped up the fan at an angle to the MB.  I let it sit on high through two episodes of south park, and then tried to flash one more time while the fan was still running.  It actually booted the OZX cd and got to the point where it asked for the second cd, but the tray never closed, even after about 2 minutes of anxious waiting.  I turned it off, and tried again, and SUCCESS.  It worked, and know I have the X2 4977 bios.

I have a x2 2.2 pro on a v1.3 xbox and I cannot get it to flash. The cromwell comes up but it wont recognize the bios on the disc. I have used this disc to flash all of my friends systems and now its not working on mine. I get "No Bios Update found... Halting!" message every time. I have this disc in Cd-RW and DVD-r format and neither of them work for the 2.2 but I have done tons w/ these discs on others. I have tried just putting in the disc w/ just the bios bin on it and not the ozxflash program and still no joy. Give me some suggestions.

if you have an xecutor 2.2 lite and are having problems getting cromwell to read your bios cd, i have help.

#6 - have the dummyfile.exe make you a 100mb file and put it somewhere you can remember (desktop is fine  wink.gif )
#7a - if you have windows xp just burn the 2 files using the integrated cd burning software. make sure you close the session or whatever.
#7b - if you dont have winxp (lamer), use nero. have it burn a data cd, no multisession, disc at once and finalize. i recommend burning at 4x

Once you have the cd burned, load up cromwell (make sure the chip is enabled, flash in unprotected and im not sure if bank makes a difference but i had it on bank2) and pop in the cd. it'll read it and should flash and turn off.  if you're still having problems, it might be media. this truly does make a difference. i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend verbatim cdrw's, preferrably 650mb and 4x. i had 4x tdk 700mb cdrws and they didnt read in my philips drive. hope this helps you guys. it took me 3 days and many many hours of reading forums and IRC to get mine to work

As pdenton has stated, the newer chips come with a differrent cromwell bios. You don't need ozxchip to flash current X2's.  Just follow the steps above.

Good luck everyone, and happy testing.

biggrin.gif i feel better somehow, hehe. can i get a higher rank or something?  wink.gif

beto777: there's apparently some type of noobie setup program called "slayers," which you burn to a cd and pop in and it installs evox dash, xbmp, etc. one of the things on there, i dunno if its part of the evox dash or what, is something that lets you copy games to your xbox's hard drive. i recommend doing that, ftp'ing the files off the xbox onto your computer, use xISO to make a cd image and burn it. make your own images. as for sites where you can buy backups, i dunno, sorry

I did it my way!

I didn't do any modification on the iso-file, just renamed the flash to bios.bin. I burned the ozxflash.iso to a cd. then I burned a cd in format ISO9600 with the bios.bin file on. Then just putted in the cd ozxflash, then waited and waited and suddenly the cd was ejected from my xbox telling me to put in the bios.bin cd, "the flashCD". So I did. After that it flashed the XBox correctly.

But remeber be calm it takes some time before the first boot-CD are ejected and it looks like, on the screen, everything is going wrong but be calm and wait...

This was just another way of making the flash whithout modding the iso-file. It worked for me!

if you have an xecutor 2.2 lite and are having problems getting cromwell to read your bios cd, i have help.

How come pdenton's method is different from the one on the tutorial http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips/x-ecuter2_pogo_diagrams.html? I followed XanTium's method and my Xecuter 2.2 Lite+ FRAG'd so now I have to wait for the programmer. Is pdenton's method better? If it is, please update the tutorial so other people don't FRAG their chip too.

For :: X-ecuter 2.2 Lite/ Flash the modchip.
The X-ecuter2.2 Lite is preflashed with the "Xecuter FlashBIOS (Cromwell)".

Instructions from Team Xecuter readme file:

Step 1 - Creating the Bios CD
- Ensure that the bios file you wish to use of an appropriate size for your modchip. (1MB for the X-ecuter2)
- Make a copy of the bios file you wish to use and rename this copy to BIOS.BIN
(You can also use BIOSUPD1.BIN, CROMWELL.BIN, XECUTER.BIN & LINUXBIO.BIN)
- Select a CD or DVD media compatible with your XBox's DVD-Rom.
(Most CDRW will work and most DVD-R will work. If you have a Samsung Drive then some CD-R will work)
- Burn the BIOS.BIN file onto a CD.
(For Nero select the following settings, No Multisession, ISO Level 1, Format Mode 1, ISO 9660, Deselect Joliet, Finalize CD, Disc-At-Once)
- You should add a dummy file to the CD to ensure it is read properly by the XBOX. We have enclosed a dummy file creator with this release. We recommend 100MB.

Step 2 - Flashing with FlashBIOS (Cromwell)
- Turn your XBox console ON, when the DVD-Rom tray ejects please insert your BIOS.BIN CD and close the tray.
- When the flashing procedure is complete the XBox will shut down.
- If your modchip is writeprotected or the programming fails you will be informed by error messages on screen (It will say Unknown Flash! Halting)

Hi, firstly thanks for this great tut.

Yet I have one question left:

I installed a X2.0pro with headerpin, if I turn on the Xbox, the DVD-Tray opens, the Light flashes green - red - green, everything as descibed here.
Yet on the TV-Screen I get a diagonally distorted picture (black / green / some blue). I don´t know exactly what this means, as this isn´t described anywhere and I am not quite sure if this is ok or if this a sign that something went terribly wrong.

Sorry, if this has been answered already, but I didn´t find anything on this forum.

Thx in advance for any help =)

im not sure if this is the problem you're having but you have to be using the RCA cable for your video and audio, not an s-video cable. this is just a preliminary diagnosis, its been a known source of bad display with modchips

As I am living in Germany but have an US-Xbox, I use an RGB-Cable (that I can use my xbox with my PAL-TV-Set), not the original RCA-Cable.

So that I understand you right, the problem seems to be the connection between xbox and display, not the chip or its installation?

The new cromwell bios for X-ecuter chips does not require an RCA cord. Only the old bios required it.

Word of advice to people.. dont use the pogo pin adapters, what you pay for it will buy all the tools necessary to solder it in.  Pogo pins didnt line up correctly (least mine didnt), and soldering worked the 1st try.

For flashing the 2.2 lite +, with flashbios, is there a way to flash only banks 1&2, and leave flashbios in banks 3&4?  I have seen you can do this with xflash, but in all the tuts for flashbios they say to make a 1meg bios.  Any reason why we can't make a 512kb bios and flash only the first 2 banks?

Thanks!
Title: Flashing Your X2lite With Ozxchip Method
Post by: lookformeb on September 27, 2003, 12:08:00 PM
for the 2.2 lites, there aren't 4 banks.  just 2.  you have to flash the entire thing at the same time.  if you still have flashbios on the chip, you dont really need to use the ozxchip method.  the link in my signature has the updated method.  you can put one bios on the first bank and flashbios on the 2nd.  it's not a bad idea.
Title: Flashing Your X2lite With Ozxchip Method
Post by: ctide on September 27, 2003, 01:08:00 PM

I've read some people saying you can flash with a 512kb bios size(i.e. 4977x2) right from the start with flashbios, and leave flashbios in the 2nd set of banks.  This would seem safer, as if you screw up the first flash you can just switch it to bank 2 and reboot with flashbios again.

However, EVERY tutorial for flashbios seems to recommend a 1024kb (i.e. 4977x4) bios, then reflashing later through evox a 2 bios system.

Has anyone else tried a 512kb flash through flashbios the first time?

Thanks.

you can NOT per-bank flash a x2.2 lite.  you must flash the entire thing... it is impossible to select a single bank to flash.

Check out this tutorial I found:

Especially the section on flashing with flashbios:

"2) FLASH ONLY one of the two banks! That way if you mess it up you can reboot to cromwell and try again. Here's how:

3) FIRE UP X2BE. Choose 512k bios. Yes, 512k, not 1mb! Fill in the first two banks with your X2 hacked bios that you downloaded. Then save the results as bios.bin (the default file.)"

What do you think?  Am I reading this wrong?  Seems like they are suggesting a single-bank flash.

Hi, I have done everything lik I should. But I think I still have a problem.

When I start my xbox when the chip is on,  I see the typical Xbox screen, with the big X and "xbox" underneath it. But normally I should see "executer" at the bottom.

Well, I don't see anything,  No "MS", No "executer".

My Xbox works just the same when my chip is turned on or turned of.

What to do ? Thanks

Ok I installed my Xecuter 2.3 lite into my new holiday bundle xbox. Everything appears ok. The mod chip led is green and the system seems to boot Cromwell because the CD tray opens however the xbox led is orange and I don't get anything on the TV screen when using the AV cables. One note is that I did install a new 120GB HD while I had the xbox open for the chip install. Do I need to have the original HD installed for Cromwell to boot up properly? Of course with the mod chip turned off I do get the xbox needs service screen because the HD is blank.

Also, with a v1.4/1.5 xbox, cromwell does not support video output. The flashbios will still work fine, simply follow the same instructions.

If you have a 1.0-1.3 then check your solder points.

And btw, the x2.2 and x2.3 comes with the flashbios, you don't need ozxflash, so this is the wrong thread for most of your.

I am having a similar problem as the previous poster (itzlilc).  I have an XBox v1.5 and Xecuter 2.3 Lite+.  I followed the directions in the very beginning of this tutorial exactly (for those with Cromwell and I hoped these directions would apply to my case...)

I used BIOS 4977 and a 100MB dummy file and a Memorex CD-RW at 4x (burned in Nero with all the correct settings).  I flashed it (the drive seemed to read the media fine and the XBox shutdown)...and I hoped everything would work as advertised, but unforfunately it FRAGs everytime I boot with either Bank 1 or Bank 2.  When I disable the mod, the Xbox works fine and boots normally.

Questions:
1) Is there anyway to rescue this modchip?  Besides buying the adapter to essentially make this the Pro edition?

2) If I had only flashed with 512K instead of the recommended 1,024K would that have saved one of my Banks?

3) What SHOULD I have done?  Which BIOS should I have used???  Is there anywhere else something could have possibly gone wrong?  My gut feeling is that the mod is installed correctly but I just picked the wrong BIOS version...

Please respond, if possible, with step-by-step instructions for a newb such as myself.
