Title: New: Auto-xbins 2008
Post by: Ground Zero on February 21, 2008, 04:01:00 PM
This app will provide you with fast, easy 1-click access to the Xbins FTP service.

(IMG:http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/7526/xbinsgk7.png)

Save the exe to your desktop, or to an alternate easy to remember location, and just double-click it whenever you need access to Xbins. You will be logged into the ftp within seconds, with zero effort!

Open port 113 on your firewall for the irc identd service. This will half your connecting times.

Enjoy!   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

AWESOME!!! You guys rock (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . No more logging into mIRC, going through the command prompts, and then having to enter the username and password into my ftp client. Now, double click, and I instantly have access to the worlds largest compilation of xbox homebrew. Thanks, guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .

why hasnt anyone made a mirror of xbins and made a torrent, with monthly updates like xbins_MIRROR_01-01-2008.tar

or even the directory structure TorrentZipped... to make easy updating..

i know im always needing some random weird file, and it would be nice to have a local mirror/repository on my desktop/server.

I was also thinking about this a few months ago. I suppose the directory structure could be cached, and then the files downloaded as needed from xbins. I guess the reason nobody has done it is because i) xbins already does it's job well. ii) it's a time-consuming task.

probably also because there is a limit on how much you can download.

I also noticed this error (once so far) the other day, do you know what server it was trying to connect to?
As I coded the irc routines myself, their stability had only been tested in a limited number of scenarios by myself, but you'd think that running it several hundred times would make any bugs apparent (I guess that's what beta testing is for.)

As you are the first to report it, and I have only ever seen this bug once, after running the application many, many, many times, I don't think this bug warrants an immediate fix.

From what i've seen, it's just a problem with the integrity of the buffer being checked, and it's causing no flooding to the IRC server, nor causing any disruptive cpu usage. The error-handling I have added will sort this problem out after 20 seconds anyway (it jumps to the next IRC server after 20 seconds of inactivity, which will cause the buffer to be filled with VALID data.)

So it's more of a very rare inconvenience, where the user either waits 20 seconds for the routine to continue flow, or restarts it (the application still responds, with no need to force quit.)

As it is annoying nonetheless (and I have already identified what piece of code to correct), I will slip a fixed version into the official distribution channels within the coming weeks.

As they say... first impressions count, so sorry about this.
Thanks for reminding me of this bugs existence, and letting me know it occurs more often than I first thought  beerchug.gif

This is great Ground Zero. Efficiency is my middle name and this app suits me just fine. Is there a way to have it connect to the other location to pull down XBMC. I can't remember the location off hand, maybe xbmc.uk.xbins.org. Thx for your efforts.  biggrin.gif

Post by: Ground Zero on March 07, 2008, 04:58:00 PM
You don't need to connect to IRC each time to grab a login for the XBMC ftp, just use the same login quoted below every time. You can save this login info in your regular ftp client, and use that  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

"If you would like CVS builds of XBMP/XBMC or any other XBMP/XBMC releases, get them on our FTP at xbmp.uk.xbins.org (Europe 100mbit) Username = xbins Password = homebrew"

this version DOES work. What's the exact problem you are experiencing?
If it starts, but doesn't actually show any (irc) activity, then that tells you that you need to open port 6667 on your firewall to allow irc connections.

Hmm...6667 & 133 port is already opened.
run this app...not open ftp window.
connection fail loop...

a month ago...old xbins does work fine...
now...it is same new ver.

what's a problem with me?  sad.gif

does this app use filezilla for the downloading process?  I was going about it the manual way with mirc and filezilla just a little earlier.  I could connect to the ftp just fine and dandy but couldnt get a download started with filezilla.  each process queue, or straight download attempt, would appear to try and make a new connection with the ftp to start the file transfer, which of course is not possible.  in the filezilla settings under concurrent transfers everything is set to "1".  so after much frustration with trying different patterns to download one stupid file, I happened to do a "!list" in the channel, only 69 seconds after a previously doing the same command.  I was then banned for doing it "twice".  so now that i'm banned, will this app be of any use to me?  and if anyone knows how to solve that damn filezilla problem, I would set aside a significant portion of my calendar to hear what they have to say.

I've looked over the #xbins ban list, and I see no banned hostmasks that will prevent this application from working for you.
Forget the manual way, just run this and it will literally do everything for you  wink.gif

Mega Thanks for this. Works awesome! I had an older version of an auto xbins auto thinger that used filezilla. I used the filezilla more than the app. I tried tonight and it went bogus...

I'm so glad I caught this thread..

Looks like an excellent app, but I had problems. Sorry I can't give specifics on what it did though (it scrolls fast). Port 113 is opened, I know it found hostname...but then timed out. Tried it again, & it timed out again. Then it said something about 'banned' & hopefully I saw the word temporary there. Maybe because of too many failed attempts in a row? Hope its not permanent. Ideas?

It is likely that you IP range is banned.   I had this problem with some servers since they had problems with people in my IP range so they just banned the whole range.

I used to use xbins via mirc, a few years ago. And always found it a real pain to navigate and use. So i was very happy indeed to find this piece of automated software. So thank you!

Everything worked fine for a while. But now i keep getting the error message when i try to download a file:
"Response:   550-  Guess what? YOU'RE BANNED. Perhaps if you followed the rules you would not be.
Response:   226  Aborted successfully."

I didn't think it would be possible to break any rules using Auto-xbins.
I had downloaded quite a few files earlier. So is it due to there being a daily download limit?

Ground Zero: Thank you for your nice program. Really really got me very confortable to flash my 360 drive.
But I made a mistake and now xbins banned me from the ftp. (I told the program to download the hacked firmware folder, I didn't knew that there was WAY TOO MANY files sad.gif )

So, there's any way to get unbanned? Thank you in advance.

Cose its a backdoor, at list that is what my drweb antivirus says  wink.gif
Title: New: Auto-xbins 2008
Post by: Ground Zero on June 01, 2008, 07:20:00 AM
I assure you that my software is 100% free from viruses, trojans, adware and spyware. To ensure integrity, please only download copies of this software from links posted in this thread by myself, 360Mods.net, xbins.org and the Xbins FTP server.

I code for the fun of coding, not to make money or waste time learning the secrets of people I have never met before via 'backdoors'.

I was considering posting the source code of this application here, so that you could confirm that the code is safe before compiling for use. I came to the conclusion that this may do more harm than good. Malicious users may modify the code and release the infected application onto other websites.

If this issue is of a genuine concern to you, I will be more than happy to hand over the source code to a trusted administrator, who can then confirm that the source code is safe, compile it, then confirm that the source I handed over is the same as the source code I used to compile my release by comparing the MD5 checksum of my released executable to their compiled executable. Please find an administrator willing to co-operate.

The reasons for the backdoor alert are numerous.
Firstly, it may be due to the usage of IRC connections. I know for a fact that even the popular IRC client, mIRC, which has been downloaded over fourteen million times from CNET's download.com is detected by some security suites as a backdoor. The average user does not use IRC for chat anymore, so the anti-virus companies assume that it's being used for backdoor usage.
Secondly, it may be due to the usage of UPX, which compresses the executable to reduce it's file size. Several years ago, almost all anti-virus suites labelled executables packed with UPX as malicious, but since its usage has expanded beyond just compressing trojans in the last five years, no respectable virus-scanner labels it as malicious anymore.
Thirdly, it may be due to the opening of port 113. This port is required to be open to connect to most EFnet IRC servers, mainly to ensure that the computer you are connecting to their server from is yours, and that you are not using proxy servers to evade server bans. This works as most proxy servers don't have port 113 open/identd running.
If you do not feel comfortable with opening port 113 while the application is running, simply do not allow it to open port 113 when your firewall prompts you. Usually, it will not ask you, and port 113 will remain closed. All this means is that connection will take a little while longer, as Easy Xbins goes through it's server list finding an IRC server which allows you to connect without identd running.

If you are still not happy, I recommend you scan the executable file with a few other reputable virus-scanners. As with any other application, check for added startup entries in your registry, and processes running when they shouldn't be. It's best to stay cautious when using Windows.

If you have any more concerns which need addressing, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank You for this. Sooooo Much easier when I need to grab something quick.   biggrin.gif   biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

Note : You may need to try it a couple of times to connect,  Works great after that.

As far as the "Virus" detection. It is not uncommon for anti-virus tools to report a "False Positive"  blink.gif
Personally I would rather have a program tell me it *thinks something is a virus, than miss one that
actually is a virus. I have worked for 6+ years as a Professional Security Consultant.
This software is legit.  Thank You for posting this Ground Zero  cool.gif

Post by: robot3 on June 29, 2008, 03:50:00 AM
I use this app all the time but as of last week I am having a hell of a time with it. Firstly I get banned from most servers when connecting. If I do get through to xbins, If I select a few items (lets say 5) what happens is when they go to download they do not download, but instead it goes through the list of items as if it were transferring. Xbins then either disconnects or bans.

Also sometimes when it does find a server it kind of glitches and the "response" command just scrolls down like a million times with nothing happening. I close the app and start again which reminds me of bans or now bans me from servers that it did connect to before.

So can someone please tell me what the hell is going on or if there is any way to rectify this?

Can you describe the problem in more detail? Is it possible to copy and paste the last few lines you see here?
What can't it connect to? Nothing is working at all? Are you just banned from the IRC servers, or are you banned from the FTP itself?

try it with just one 'd'

seekanddestroy.net/.com have been taken by some greedy asshole who registers domains for the purpose of selling them back at a high price to people who want to use them for a real website.

there's suspicions that operators working at domain registras are involved in this. people have reported searching for a domain, being told it's available, and then coming back a few hours later to find that it has already been registered. http://www.out-law.com/page-8580

My virus scanner reports that Auto Xbins is a Trojan called TR/Dropper.Gen. I assume it's false, but I won't run a file my scanner says is bad unless there's some confirmation that the author knows it produces false results.

I downloaded it from the link in the first post today, by the way.

You have to be kidding me. Ofcourse Norton or whatever else you have will report this. Hmm just think about for one second, prob over 10,000 + have used this program and they are all reporting its a virus. Oh well, prob best to tell Norton to keep blocking it. Dear god, use your brain man.

avast was reporting a trojan in it for me too.

I'm not sure why its saying there's a trojan in it now, I was using it for a while and it didn't detect anything before.

This without a doubt has a Trojan in it now.  It has locked up my alternative pc, so you can open applications, but not close them.  You cant even open task manager, it will fail security checks.
