Title: Confirmed: Xbox 360 Psu Is Huge (pics)
Post by: skyypunk on October 22, 2005, 12:20:00 PM
With all the pics going around of the 360 and a few of what 'may be' the power supply, i went to a local walmart to find out.  I asked the rep there, and he confirmed it was huge, I asked to see it and here you go: (sorry for large images)

My local walmart (Ypsilanti, MI) also had their 360 shut off.  They said that when it was on, it interfered with their wireless scanners

I live in Ann Arbor, MI and i went to the Ypsi WALL-MART. The 360 was ON, but the TV was either off or not connected. The LED on the controller was on as well as the power led on the console itself. No display on the any video-game preview tvs.

I can understand that it kinda does suck that the adapter might be large, but really, who gives a damn?  How does it affect your gaming in any way, your Xbox is stationary 99% of the time, so what does an enlarged PSU affect on something that isn't going to be mobile?

And if you took the current PSU and put it into an external case how big would it be?  Probably the same size.

This power adapater is huge and heavy. These pics were taken with my Sony Ericsson 1.3MP camera phone, so sorry for the quality.  I opened the demo 360 we got in our walmart today.  I was the 1st one to hold our 360, and I don't even work in electronics, I work in the photo lab.

It felt nice to hold, it is lighter than the current xbox. The controller also feels very nice in my hands, I love it.  I can't wait to play this bad boy, I am going to see if the electronics dept. manager will let me hook it up.

Enjoy the pics.

I went to the walmart in layton. Once, it was off (controller led was on) but the second time i went back it was working just fine.  by the time i finished the call of duty 2 demo my neck hurt bad.  Who cares if it interferes with scanners. I don't use scanners in my house.

Layton, UT?

I live in the same place. Anyways, I went to the Layton walmart today, and they had it off. They said the reason is that it is not only interfering with the scanners, but a lot of other stuff with-in about a 90 foot range.

was just in my walmart in west michigan... they said theyve had no problems... offtopic: they were running theirs in 1080 , and call of duty 2 looked pretty amazing... dunno about 60 bucks amazing, but it was fun and the framerate solid.

I played @ the Ypsilanti store too, the afternoon that they first got it installed.  I diddn't notice any problems with the controller losing signal or anything.

I wasn't working a scanner tho...

I thought about jacking it, but, its really not worth it, I can wait 29 days for it.  Besides I don't have to wait in line on launch day anyway.

They have the 360 turned off at my walmart.
And I don't think it'll ever come back on.
I went to play it and it has a post-it note on it saying "please do not plug the xbox back in it is interfereing with the walmart television systm. ,thanks -management"
Whats funny is it wasn't interfering with the scanners or anything. They just hooked it up wrong and suppossedly the night before it blasting on every tv in the store.Including the plasmas.Too bad i got there the next day. Guess i'll just have to wait till they put demos in other stores.
P.S. This was in the clarksburg WV store so if you live around here don't even bother.

Who cares even if the PSU is huge - a month from now when people have them in their living rooms, is anyone going to see the PSU tucked away behind their TV, nonetheless even think about it or care about it?

Also, would you rather have a smaller PSU and have your house burn down because it wasn't rated for the necessary power requirements?

if it was my laptop interfering i'd just disable the wireless radio. wonder if you can disable the wireless on it in some fashion.
a demo unit not doing its thing will not help you increase sales sitting there looking pretty.

I Work at my local walmart in Boston MA, MS doesnt service my walmart so i decided to steal this mofo.  I took some pics of my celphone cam.. only if i can have full feature of the retail xbox, the olny disc that works is the demo.. seem that it has a security flash bios to prevent from playing retail game or it can just be the hd with a walmart dashboard?

I need to know I am in the US for the launch and need to know if I have to buy 8 stepdown tranformers.
thanks in advance....

Really who cares?
I like the fact of an external PSU. Look at the ps3's size what would you wrather try to make room for an over sized console or power supply? it adds an edge in replacement also if the event ever comes up. As for wireless.... it complies with FCC rules and the other hardware may not. Also you have to take into effect most of the systems that are wireless have channels that can be switched.

The idea of simple household things like cordless phones can have this issue is being a bit parrinoid. cordless phones from 900mhz to 5.8ghz can switch channels same with wireless routers.I have wireless keyboard/ mouse, remotes, wireless xbox controllers, wireless router, psp, cordless phone. almost everything opperates at a 2.4ghz yet i have not once seen an issue. I have seen ps fans accuse xbox360 wireless of stealing bluetooth from this as well..... its wifi.
Title: Confirmed: Xbox 360 Psu Is Huge (pics)
Post by: Bogus8 on October 25, 2005, 01:04:00 PM
2.4ghz really doesn't have many restrictions by the FCC so that is kind of a BS statement by MS (that it complies with).

And you may have been lucky but I have read plenty of reports that show that phones will kill wifi, microwaves kill wifi (I've witnessed this myself)... things do clash and no one may "legally" be at fault, so MS may be to blame just as much as anyone if they pushed the limits of 2.4ghz and compromised other signals.

This is way OT btw
