The Home Page doesn't seem too difficult being as simple as it is, however, finding the right font may prove a little challenging (I could use some help here)
The first thing I need is a high quality copy of the movies/tv shows/music/podcasts/photos/settings icons.
Let me know if you need a screenshot to work from. I'll probably be toying around with my own over the next couple days. These will be a huge part of the final skin (the take up almost 40% of the screen and are the most noticable graphic on every page) so I want these icons to be perfect. I think it makes the most sense to create an image that includes the reflection because it never appears without it.
Also, the progress bar looks so clean, should be fun working on. I'm pretty sure I saw the play/pause icon, bout don't have a screenshot yet. The menu might have to be entirely ad lib, Let me see what you've got xb scene.

Things are really starting to move along. Here's the thing though
We still don't have a name for this skin!
Start thinking of some names. A couple notes to everyone out there, iTV will NOT be the name of the device Apple is releasing. (There are rumors of something like TV Tube) it's probably a bit big to fit a _pod name, so I doubt we'll see anything using "pod"
When the homepage graphics are finished, I'll start taking suggestions for names for this new skin.
Start thinking them up, and have them ready soon.

He had done work on an iTunes 7 icon replacement which he game me permission to use in our little skin. I just edited it to fit iTV.
I guess it's on to the tv and movies icon... I'm not sure about that podcast one... there really isn't a replacement for XBMC unless we use it for radio stations. Give me some feedback on this everyone. I've just wanted an iTV theme for XBMC, not a 100% acurate reproduction, but I'm willing to listen to what people want, since I'm now using Front Row as my media center anyways.

i added contrast afterwards to accentuate the green hue, however i believe the final version will not require, or very little. and the green should be a little lighter as well.
the water frame is proving to be a little more of a feat that i would have thought, but i should be posting an update tomorrow on this.
any constructive feedback?

maybe the blue on the 2nd picture frame should be a little darker? let us not forget that this "sample" icon is smaller in size and that the displayed icon in the actual skin will be much bigger.........but I suppose if need be I can always fix it up before the final version is released, so tonight I'll work on the movie "clapboard" icon.

Anyway, the first xmls for the homepage are together, (and looking quite good by the way) thanks to some great effort by manturafs. I'm going to be working on a finished version of the music and weather icons (with transparency this time) over the next day or two.
Just asking anyone out there, are the weather icons ok'd for use with xbmc or PMIII? I would like to keep them since I feel as though they are some of the best available, and creating my own would take a considerable ammount of time.

i put a white border around so that the frame can be visible.
the one on the left is the original, the one in the center is a very close rendition of the original, and the right version is just a more color saturated version - which one is preferred?
looking at it now, i think the black border is a little too thick, so i'll change that in the next update

So we're approaching 2000 views... The skin is starting to develop, and my poor little xbox still is out of commission. (Dead power supply)

I've decided to build a new xbox/case
I'm looking for someone out there with a lot of knowledge on xbox hardware. I'd like to showcase a mod along with the release of the skin.
The thing is, if I'm going to do this mod, it's going to look right. And for that look, I'll be needing a slim pc drive instead of the one that comes with the xbox (see where I'm going with this yet?)
So, if there's someone out there that knows if this would be possible, or even better yet, if they could help me with the implementation, I would be forever gratefull.

now, there's more work to make it look more accurate like the pic (like the inside box and the triangle binding the "claps") but i just wanted you all to know i was working on it, and it's always fun to see a wip and get constructive feedback. And if any of you don't like it, well give me a break, 'cause i got back from training a newbie at work today after my bus crashed into a second, "parked" bus, twisting my knee from a 90-to-45 degree angle while still holding onto the post, all-the-while others falling atop each other like dominos
......... at least my hands are fully functional! btw, i "was" teasing about people not liking it, because constructive criticism is what makes a graphic a better graphic, right? but i had to get that frustration out about the bus, so my apologies to the off-topic - back to regular scheduled programming *** EDIT ***
here's another update, I think this one is getting a little closer, and it actually looks better, i'm just not too sure if the center box is a little too close to the edge, but i will be adding the borders tomorrow, so i think we should be getting a better idea.

Absolutely Fantastic work.
I have to say, I love the bottom icon, it seems you may have just created a great alternative, sleek style for our skin. Sticking with the most accurate reproduction though, I'd say you should try and increase the border size again. Either way, this is some fantastic work.
I'll actually have some spare time tomorrow (and maybe tonight) to get a final icon for music done, and hopefully have a WIP post of my weather icon. Manturafs seems to have the solution to the sliding text highlight! Also, after looking over the first xmls, it would seem that we really need some work on animated gifs for the scripts and shutdown icons. My idea is a completely transparent (or black) icon that when selected, glows just the arrow for the scripts, or just the circle icon for the shutdown menu. It would blend best into the skin if the arrow and circle faded from white to black and back again.
Is there anyone out there that could show me how to program additional functions for the infrared receiver in XBMC? I have a different controller that I'd like to use with XBMC.

here's an example that i quickly did to make it look similar to the "actual" itv design, of course keeping in mind that I need to make adjustments, which I will take time to do so tonight.
which do you folks prefer?
in my opinion, they're both very unique designs, the latter making the center square area bigger and in turn making it seem the icon being longer, however, the top icon is more accurate, per say, to itv.

I'll be starting back on my internship after winter break, and will have plenty of spare time then. Until then, I hope manturafs can do some work, maybe we can get a public alpha release (I see no reason to keep this secret the way MC360 was).
This weekend is homecoming, which for a fraternity is a VERY busy time, but maybe I'll manage to post my progress on icons in the next week or two.

My suggestion would be: try to stick closer to the original iTV look. I really like that simple look.
Maybe you could put the xbmc options, like "view" and "sort by.." in a pop-up, so the standard screen can keep that clean look.

Whats the point, when the skin is finished people will be able to download it.
And a release should not be far from now. I finished the 4x3 last night, now all we gotta do the 16x9(which should not take long at all) and we need a couple more images and it will be ready.

Skin looks great. Good implementation of iTV. Any plans on adding reflections to the movie and/or cd covers as seen in the Clearity skin?
we added reflections to most of the views already. you should be able to see it in the video.

Looks really really great! Only thing I dont like is the weather icon. Although it has that apple style, it doesnt match the rest. Perhaps a globe like icon would fit in better. Like this:

I absolutely love the current weather icon. The Apple TV interface is NOT aqua, and I don't know what you're talking about when you say you don't think it fits in.

First, in the screenshots and video, I noticed that the images on the left of the main menu seem stretched horizontally, or vertically compressed. When you resize these, the best thing to do is scaling, not click and drag. (if you prefer click and drag, at least hold down the shift key to lock the aspect ratio of the image while resizing)

Second,
The scroll bar is entirely unneeded, it is useful when you have a mouse, but it does not fit this skin. Watch the Apple TV, you will never see a scroll bar, it's "extra" and this is a minimalist interface.
Finally, the "highlight" around the selected text could still use some work, it looks like it's still the original image from the first alpha. I think that was just a colorized version of the one used in PM3.
Please don't take this the wrong way, it's all meant to be constructive, and I know with all the hard work you've put in, it could easily be taken differently. Keep up the great work, I'm sure a lot of people are very excited to see this release.

And about the scrollbar, I think you are wrong. What if you wanted to listen to some music and had to go through you collection of lets say 500 albums. Would you rather sroll through all those albums individually or use the scrollbar to go through them way faster. There is no way we are making this with out a fast way to go through the lists. But these kind of things are minor details at the moment. We are concerned wtih making the skin fully functional before we worry about how much blur is on a image, the width of an icon, or if the scrollbars should be there or not.
Don't get me wrong I always welcome some constructive critisism, but at least wait till all the functions are done before bombarding us with these minor details. All the things I have seen suggested can be fixed by simply replacing an image or adding a visibility condition. Don't worry you guys we are trying as hard as we can to get this as close as we can but we can only do so much at a time. We are merely posting these screenshots to show everyone that we are not slacking off on this and we are working hard to get it to you guys as soon as possible.

To correct for this in XBMC_PC, click to set res to 4x3, then set to pixel size, then set to aspect ratio. This will compress NTSC slightly horizontally, thus correcting some of the "stretched" nature of those images.
If you're using <aspectratio>keep</aspectratio> XBMC will do all this for you, assuming the image is the correct size to begin with (as viewed on a monitor with square pixels).

its a LCD Projektor Sharp XV-Z10E.
I`m running my BOX through a XBOX component cable on my TV and projector. Resolutions from 420p to 1080i. Depends on the material that i watch. Speakers are from CANTON and the whole rest is from Sony. I`ve changed the TV to a 40" Sony LCD screen. Better clearity and lower energy consumption. Sorry for my poor english.

If you folks (xTV team) were alright letting a few people do some testing, I'd check through everything and take some screenies for debugging.
I have my xbox running widescreen on a VGA CRT monitor. I could test all resolutions if you would like me to. I'm not so sure about PAL though.

I assume, CHI3f, you have gotten familiar with XBMC SVN/compiling?

XBMC PC seems to render some things differently than the actual Xbox does, for some reason.

I'll probably be getting rid of the buttons in the OSD though... again, I don't think they're needed.
As a special bonus, I'll hopefully post a remap for the Apple clicker remote to be used with the skin just as
Apple TV would work, give me a week or so. I won't be buying an Apple TV, so I'll base the actions off from
the way Front Row acts. Maybe once Apple releases the real Apple TV I'll revise it if I need to. I'm sure there
will be plenty of things to improve after the release of Apple TV, but this looks great so far. Can't wait for the
weekend!

No it doesn't. It's identical. The only difference is the output pixel ratio, which you can adjust in XBMC_PC using the "Resize to Aspect Ratio" setting.

You want my guess its that your TV is using screen calibration making it smaller and not quite perfect 16x9 and the pc version has none since you don't need it try resetting your screen calibration to 0
or the other thing is your PC screen probably displays a 200% better pivture quality than your TV

for high res box art, well you'd have to get some higher res images to start with (I'm sure you knew that), but to get them to actually show up in xbmc as higher res, I imagine you could just increase the cache size, couldn't you, the same way people did with wide icons before it was integrated?
EDIT: just realized you wanted to know how to MAKE high res box art, not how to view it in xbmc. I'm stupid.

Here is how apple tv's home page is set up.
Now look at the arrangement of the blurred icons in any one of our screenshots and you will notice that dumb-ass me made the order of them all wrong. The first blurred icon should be for underneath the focused button and the smallest should be for under that, I have it just the opposite.
Geez I guess since you guys can't notice a problem as big as this would do us no good at testing this. I guess we don't need to release a beta. You guys are gonna have to wait till this thing is final now.

But I do just feel a few things:
1) I find the font just a bit too small when browsing media libraries (have to squint a bit, 28" 4:3 tv)
2) The image quality for showing album artwork when in LIST view, is it as high as it could be? It seems a little blurry.
3) I still hold by my viewpoint that the album artwork when in LIST mode, is just a bit too big on the screen, and a little too far to the left.
Forgive me if these things have changed, I haven't checked the progress of this skin in a while. Just giving my opinion.
