Title: Xbox360 Homebrew Scene Is World Of Everlasting Betas
Post by: Hausmanis on May 20, 2010, 07:49:00 AM
How come the Xbox 360 homebrew scene is so damn slow ? Most projects is released in a beta and then nothing happens, like DSone360 and many other emulators and projects, does anyone need assistance to progress or maybe time to team up to speed progress up ?

if you look deeper into the forums it explains in many places that the slow progress is caused by most of the emulators being wrote and tested on a jtag retail not a full dev kit

the differences are huge
a dev kit allows for realtime debugging to see why a recent change to the code broke something

a retail the only way to fix bugs is to scour through loads of code and hope you find whats happened then transfer it back to 360 and see if it still crashes, if its not fixed after that then rinse and repeat till a solution is found

edit: and then theres the technology to adapt to, most consoles can have stuff ported really fast if its of the same architecture e.g. the old xbox scene was ports from pc to another x86 based system

hope with the new memory access in freeboot 0.032 will allow debugging on a retail console in the future. Hope someone is working on this, it would speed up things so much

Start reading, start studing, get coding, and, stop bitching
